This anniversary was yesterday. I watched the episode, a favorite from Season 2. I think the argument between Beaver and Larry was well filmed, as was also Ward's telling of the story of Damian and Pythias. It was nice to see Larry come clean in front of the whole class and admit what he had done.

The confession by Larry was classic. Great dialog.

Approximation:

Miss Landers: Can't it wait until later?

Larry: I better do it now, or I might never do it.

What I don't understand is, why are they having recess at that moment in the school day? Doesn't recess usually happen after lunch? Which reminds me, they very rarely ever showed Beaver and his class in the school cafeteria.

In elementary school, we had a morning recess, lunch, and an afternoon recess.

When in that episode were they going to recess? I haven't seen it in awhile, although it'a coming up on MeTV.

I don't think they ever showed Beaver in the cafeteria (but there were a few cafeteria scenes with Wally). Beaver brought his lunch--maybe he ate in the all-purpose room.

Miss Landers says that they are about to go to recess when Larry brings up that he wants to say something in front of the class. He is basically holding up the kids going to recess.

I was trying to figure out when in the school day the recess was in that episode.

Beaver would not be able to go to recess so Larry wanted to confess so Beaver wouldn’t miss recess again. I think he misses it once. If Beaver had his homework every day why punish him because he missed it one day. I guess he wouldn’t say why he didn’t have it.

We had morning recess but don't think we left the room. We had milk and could buy cookies at 10am, lunch was in the all purpose room and no afternoon recess. If it rained at lunch we had a talent show.

The only time I can remember is the scene in one of the later episodes, "Don Juan Beaver," where Beaver is sitting in the cafeteria with his two friends and he's purposely rude to Peggy so she'll go away.

And by then Beaver was eating the school lunch instead of packing a lunch.

Thanks--I should never make these never statements (oops--just did it again!).

In the early season we see Beaver eating with MaryEllen in My Brother’s Girl and Cleaning Up Beaver with Larry. Also we see Beaver and Wally’s friends in the cafeteria in Next Door Indians. I think the only time we see Beaver again is as you said Don Juan Beaver.

We see a funny scene in the cafeteria with Wally and Eddie in One of the Boys. One of the Barons throws away Eddie’s chocolate pudding.

Yep, that's a funny scene. And Eddie contemplates fishing his pudding out of the trash can.

Well, I got my own answer (watching Friendship on MeTV). I think the clock showed 10:00. That is an odd time for recess.

That’s around the time we had recess in the morning. I found a few things that were confusing. I said this ‘afor’ but why if Beaver has his math homework everyday why punish him that one time? She makes him stay there until 4pm. Too bad he didn’t just say he dropped it in a puddle on the way to school. She had to write a letter home?

After Larry confesses, Miss L says she was glad he did and tells them it’s time for recess. Beaver asks all of us Miss Landers? Yes all of us. Later Beaver tells Wally Miss L took away Larry’s recess. Huh?

She probably was irritated because he said he couldn't tell her why he didn't hand it in.

I too noticed that Larry went to recess but later Beaver says Miss Landers took them away from him. Hard to believe the script was that bad. I'd have to think it was a director error.

Wouldn’t it have been funny if Miss Landers says it’s time for recess. Beaver says to Miss Landers “all of us Miss Landers?” yes all of us except Larry.
