Today a revelation in the world of My 3 Sons's. This morning I watched "Trial Separation" from near the end of season 1. Well, as is my practice today I first watched my vintage TV recording version from Family Channel then I watched the commercial DVD version to see what scenes were cut.

OK, the revelation, when watching today at one point Mike asks his father how do you know you're in love. Mike then adds, "you should hear what Bub says" or something like that. Now as soon as I heard this I thought to myself, I bet this is the scene that was just edited out of the TV version since Bub was never seen or heard giving Mike advice on love. Sure enough I was right. I have found when I watch the edited TV versions whenever they mention something that happened just before or to somebody doing something that was never seen in the show that THAT is the scene that was cut from the TV broadcast version.

So it was such a pleasure to finally after all these years to actually see and hear what Bub's love advice was to Mike in addition he sings a couple of short bits of old love songs and the commercial version didn't even cut Bub's singing out for the first time ever!!!!:happyface The commercial discs normally always cut out original popular songs sung by Bub. Of course, the great advantage the original TV broadcast versions have over the commercial discs is the ORIGINAL background music that's heard thru-out while it is the first thing to go in the commercial discs.

I also thought it very interesting the use of background sound effects employed in the quiet reflective night scene between Mike and Jeanie. All of them conjuring up a lonely feel, first a distant train, then Big Ben (apparently it's now in My 3 Sons town instead of London) the famous clock rings out 2 loud gongs (was this really 2 in the morning? I doubt it) then you hear hounds barking, you hear a car honking and driving you even hear car tire screeching and a distant crash. The sound guy really got creative in this scene. I don't believe I've ever picked up such an array of unrelated storyline sounds ever used before. But it was great to hear and to realize the thought that went into it. Very good.:)
