I don't like the country/western parts, or the jazz parts, but I like the rest of it.

Well, thinking it over, I dunno...I can kinda see how they could be used. But, everything else was revamped for the new season 2, so why not revamp the theme? I like how we have two distinct themes for the classic first 4 seasons. :)

I'm not sure how the mistake occurred, but I agree it's hard to confuse Melissa Etheridge and Lisa Whelchel. :lol:

I already know i'm in the teeny tiny minority about this, but I love and prefer the opening theme song from season 2 on. Mainly because this is the one I always remember and think about.

Remember, to those of us who watched in real time, the show still wasn't popular in season 1 and it really grew it's audience after season 2 so that's the theme song us "oldies" viewers will remember and most likely prefer.

The one change I remember they made after the first change was somewhere in the mid 80's where the singer fills the musical gap with "alllll about youuuuu!"---and when I sing it to myself, (yes I do that lol) I find myself doing that part too, so I must like it. :lol:

Are you kidding cfr?? "teeny tiny minority"?? You are in the MAJORITY! S1 is thought of as obscure and "cult-favored" (as in "cult classics", not as in "favored by cults" :lol:). It's the S2-and-on theme that is thought of as THE classic FOL theme (and while it was instrumentally jazzed up for the OOH seasons, it was still the same song).

I too LOVE that theme, while I also still really like the S1 theme as well. But I love *love* *LOVE* singing along with the closing theme in the S2-S6 years. That is some feel-good singing!
