View Full Version : CTV Throwback Thursdays
CTV is Canada's #1 TV network. Earlier this year, they launched their own VOD streaming channel called CTV Throwback which offers free ad-based series from the past in a setup similar to Hulu. It started with 20 different series but has now doubled to 40. Some of the shows seem very strange to me given the fact that they would have premiered in the last 10-20 years so they don't exactly give me the impression of being true throwback series. (Examples: My Boys, Til Death, Orphan Black, Drop Dead Diva, and the Men In Black cartoon to name a few.) For the most part, I tend to ignore them and focus on the older series like The Jeffersons, The Facts Of Life, Charlie's Angels, Soap, Mad About You, and Married With Children.
Each week, CTV adds one title to the list seemingly chosen at random. This week, they have added 3 shows. One is Orphan Black. The other 2 represent what may be their wisest additions yet and they have done it in a rather unique fashion. For the first time, CTV has added a show from the 1960s and it's one of my favorites, "I Dream Of Jeannie". That would be all 6 seasons and 140 episodes in total. Not only that, but as an added bonus, you also get the 1970s "Jeannie" cartoon with ex-Stooge Joe Besser providing the voice of Babu, Jeannie's inept but funny appentice genie. ("Yabble Dabble!!")
I'll try and update this page every Thursday to see what other shows they add in the future. Here are a few pages to start you off:

TSMIV 04-04-2019, 11:54 PM Looks like its only available in Canada. I tried to watch Early Edition and I got an error message "browser not supported." Ugh.....why won't somebody in the US get the streaming rights for this show?

Have you considered using a VPN? Maybe that will work.

Now you know how I feel when I try to go on Hulu. I agree with you and many others that also complain about this. Geo-blocking is wrong, no matter where you are from. After all, this should be the WORLD wide web. A lot of companies tend to forget that. So, what I will do from now on is this: Whenever CTV launches another Throwback title on its site, normally on Thursdays, I will post the new titles with links from both CTV (for Canadian fans) and other free sites for everyone else. This way, everyone is happy, I hope. Here are a few good ones to get you started:

TSMIV 04-06-2019, 01:42 PM I can kind of understand geo blocking for some countries/regions, but the US and Canada makes no sense. People living near the border can get over the air stations of both countries with antennas and some US network shows actually air a day earlier in Canada. So what is the point of blocking? Plus all of the shows on this list are American produced so why keep Americans from watching their own shows?
Now you know how I feel when I try to go on Hulu. I agree with you and many others that also complain about this. Geo-blocking is wrong, no matter where you are from. Great idea for the other sites.
This week's new videos follow the same formula as last week: a beloved 1960s sitcom plus its short-lived rarely seen spinoff as well as a series from the 2000s that hardly anyone saw or cared about.
That would be Stuart Little, a cartoon series from 2003 based on the popular movie that starred Michael J Fox. None of the actors that did the voices in the movie returned for the series which might help to explain why it only lasted for one season and 13 episodes, none of which I could find on other sites.
Last week, CTV Throwback added "I Dream Of Jeannie" to their collection so, naturally, they follow it up with "Bewitched". All 8 seasons and 250 episodes are now available.
As an added bonus, they have also added the "Bewitched" spinoff "Tabitha" starring Lisa Hartman and Robert Urich from 1977. The series ran for only 12 episodes, likely because the viewers would have been surprised to see Tabitha grow up so quickly. (Hartman was 21 years old when the show began. The original Tabitha, Erin Murphy, was 13. She should have been the star!)
I have found all 12 episodes on Dailymotion and I have included them all below as well as an extra pilot episode that starred Liberty Williams. I will also include extra links for both "Bewitched" and "I Dream Of Jeannie" so you can watch both of these great shows together.

More good stuff to come next week...
This week, CTV has really disappointed me with their new offerings. The only new "Throwback" series added to the site involve a couple of famous "Friends" in short-lived sitcoms that were around before and after the classic series aired. They are "Mr Sunshine", starring Matthew Perry as a hockey arena manager, and "Muddling Through", which is what Jennifer Aniston was literally doing before her big break arrived a year later when she became Rachel. CTV also has "Mad About You" which featured my favorite Friend Lisa Kudrow, who was just hilarious as Ursula the waitress. After adding these shows, I was hoping that "Friends" would also be included but it didn't happen, much to my dismay. Either they forgot about it or figured it would be too obvious or maybe they're saving it for next week, when they'll probably want to include "Misfits Of Science" or "Cougar Town" as well. I'll let you know next week. Meanwhile, enjoy this week's links:

Just as they did last week, CTV Throwback have added a couple of series that only lasted one season in prime time. The first one is best left forgotten while the other is one of the most underrated and pleasant surprises from the early 1980s.
The sitcom "Rake" from 2011 is based upon an Australian series of the same name about a shady lawyer with a very questionable and immoral past. It originally aired on FOX which is not known for picking winners and this show only adds to their long list of losers.
Then there is "Square Pegs" which I felt deserved a much better fate. It was about two geeky girls trying hard to fit in with the cool girls at Weemawee Junior High. They didn't quite make it until the series ended much too soon after which its lovable leads Sarah Jessica Parker, Jami Gertz, and Tracy Nelson went on to have successful careers of their own in TV and movies. This was a show I loved when I was younger and I'll look forward to watching it again online.

This week's best-forgotten offering is a series that is similar to last week's "Rake" in that it features a sleazy lawyer with questionable social morals. It is called "Justified" from 2010 (another dubious Throwback date) and I've never heard of it before yet I'm surprised to find out that it lasted for 6 years. Hopefully next week, they'll find something a lot better.

There were no new Throwback shows offered by CTV last week because I'm guessing that they were going through the vaults carefully looking for another terrible show to feature this week --- and they found one!
This week's feature attraction is Just Shoot Me! which was a hit series for NBC that ran for 7 seasons starting in 1997. It was part of a growing trend for the network where they would have series that showed more women taking a stronger role in the workplace, such as "Veronica's Closet", "Suddenly Susan", and "Will and Grace". NBC even set aside a Monday night comedy block and cleverly called it "Must-She TV", with "Just Shoot Me" as a key figure in that block, and for a short time it worked. The sitcom starred the lovely Laura San Giacomo in the lead role of Maya Gallo, supported by capable veterans George Segal, ("Fun with Dick and Jane") Wendie Malick ("Hot In Cleveland"), Enrico Colantoni ("Veronica Mars"), and, worst of all, David Spade.
The entire series can be streamed for free here:

This week, CTV presents another forgotten, rarely-seen sitcom from the not-so-distant past. It's called "Necessary Roughness" about a recently divorced psychiatrist (as recently as 1991, that is) who offers her help to pro athletes and other local celebrities. It originally ran for 3 seasons on the USA Network and can now be seen here:

Last week, CTV Throwback announced that they were offering all 11 seasons of "The Jeffersons" as part of their collection. This came as news to me since the series had already been there from the beginning. This may have been to show the viewers who were planning to watch the live "All In The Family/Jeffersons" special what a real sitcom is like.
This week, they have pulled out another recent obscure cable series from the depths of irrelevancy. This show is called "Hawthorne" (TNT 2009)(3 seasons, 30 episodes) starring Will Smith's wife Jada Pinkett Smith as the head of a nursing department in Hawthorne, California, which is best known as the hometown of the Beach Boys.

CTV recently sent out a press release saying that "Baywatch" will be coming to CTV Throwback later this summer. This is not only to celebrate summer but also the fact that "Baywatch" is now available on Canadian TV for the first time in HD. It can currently be seen on E! Canada Mondays and Tuesdays from 6 – 10 p.m. ET and Saturdays from 4 – 8 p.m. ET.

This week, CTV Throwback offers another underrated and rarely seen sitcom from the early 1980s like they did with with "Square Pegs" a few weeks back. This time, they have "Silver Spoons" (NBC 1982) (5 seasons, 116 episodes) starring Ricky Schroeder, Joel Higgins, Erin Gray, Alfonso Ribeiro and a young Jason Bateman as Ricky's best friend Derek.
I remember this show as being a little average but not too bad. Today, it's a great history lesson to see how a few famous stars got their start in TV. You can watch it for free here:

This week, I am thrilled to announce that CTV has offered one of my all-time favorite series to be streamed for free for the first time in Canada. It is "The Partridge Family", (ABC 1970-74, 4 seasons, 96 episodes), the show which made Oscar winner Shirley Jones a TV star and David Cassidy a teen idol. The series was part of what I still feel was the greatest Friday night lineup in ABC's history along with "The Brady Bunch", "The Odd Couple" and others which I would hope and pray that CTV would add to their Throwback collection in the coming months. For now, I'm simply keeping my fingers crossed. As of today, my favorite series to watch on CTV Throwback along with "The Partridge Family" are "Bewitched", "I Dream Of Jeannie", "Mad About You", "Married With Children", "Soap", and "The Facts Of Life". The show can also be seen on TV on Antenna TV in the US and CHCH TV in Canada starting Monday.

This week, CTV Throwback adds another great series from the 1980s in "Benson" starring Robert Guillaume in his Emmy-winning role as butler Benson Dubois, first seen on "Soap", also offered by CTV Throwback in their collection. "Benson" ran on ABC for an impressive total of 7 seasons (1979-86) and 156 episodes. All of them are here on CTV. On other free USA sites, the best I could do was to find the first 2 seasons on Dailymotion.

In recent weeks, CTV Throwback appears to be on a bit of a roll. After many weeks of offering obscure, rarely-seen, and fairly bad US cable offerings, they have since come back with more familiar, and bigger, hit series "Silver Spoons", "The Partridge Family", and "Benson". Today, they introduced another great series: "Barney Miller" (ABC 1975-83, 8 seasons, 162 episodes). The show starred Hal Linden as the Captain of a funny and diverse group of cops who spend most of their time fighting crime at the 53rd Precinct. My favorite character was Fish, who later got his own spinoff series "Fish". "Barney Miller" can be seen here:

Summer has now arrived and to mark the occasion, CTV Throwback has launched 2 more hit series in their collection while also offering a free sampling of a third.
For the first time since the site launched last year, there is a Canadian series featured on CTV Throwback. It's Corner Gas, which originally aired on CTV for 6 seasons and 107 episodes starting in 2004. It's about the daily lives of a group of gas station employees in the small town of Dog River, Saskatchewan. The show has become so popular right up to today that last year, series star Brent Butt reunited with the cast to create a new cartoon version called Corner Gas Animated. Both series are currently on The Comedy Network, soon to become CTV Comedy on Sept. 12.
Another series with a notable Canadian connection tends to capture the spirit of summer better than any that have come before or since and at one time it was the most watched TV series in the world. It is "Baywatch" starring Canada's own Pamela Anderson, who is spotlighted in a limited series of episodes that CTV Throwback is calling "The Best Of Pamela Anderson". CTV might put on the full series online later this summer, but for now, highlighting the show's biggest star is a great place to start. "Baywatch" can also be seen on TV in Canada on the E! Network.
And then...there's Maude! As if "Corner Gas" and Pamela Anderson aren't enough for you for one week, CTV also introduces the popular series "Maude" from 1972 featuring future "Golden Girl" Bea Arthur in her Emmy-winning role as Maude Findlay, who proved to be as opinionated and stubborn and also as funny as her cousin Edith and husband Archie Bunker from "All In The Family" where Maude first appeared. The show also starred the lovely Adrienne Barbeau as Maude's daughter Carol and the not so lovely Rue McClanahan (also of the "Golden Girls") and Conrad Bain ("Diff'rent Strokes") as their neighbors.

CTV Throwback returns to the Norman Lear sitcom factory like they did last week when they introduced "Maude". This week, they have "Sanford and Son", (NBC 1971-77, 6 seasons, 135 episodes) about an old cranky junk dealer and his "big dummy" son. Redd Foxx turned Fred Sanford into one of the funniest and most iconic characters in TV history and now he can be streamed for free every day right here:

To give you an idea of why I believe that CTV Throwback will eventually become better than Hulu, if it isn't already, if you look at the "Sanford" page carefully, you may be forgiven if you think the editors made a big mistake. As fans of the show already know, the series ran for 6 seasons, but the site has it listed as being on for 7 seasons. That's because the folks at CTV decided to give those fans a big surprise. If you go to the drop-down menu where it says "Season 1" and you click on "Season 7" you will find 6 additional episodes. Those episodes just happen to be from the short-lived sequel "Sanford Arms" which is so rarely seen or thought about that I can only find one episode on YouTube, the only other site which will show a complete episode. On CTV, 6 episodes are offered for free and they can be seen below:

Another hit Norman Lear comedy makes its debut on CTV Throwback this week as they offer the smash spinoff "Good Times" (CBS 1974-80, 6 seasons, 132 episodes) which starred John Amos, Esther Rolle, Jimmie Walker (as series killer JJ Evans) and later featured Janet Jackson in her first featured TV role as Penny Woods.

This week, CTV Throwback offers a series which I would call one of the most underrated shows of the 1980s. It wasn't around for very long but I believe that it deserved a better fate. It is "My Two Dads" (NBC 1987-90, 3 seasons, 52 episodes). It starred Greg Evigan ("B J and the Bear") and Paul Reiser ("Mad About You") as two friends who are awarded joint custody of a teenage girl (Staci Keanan, "Step By Step") after the death of her mother by an independent and funny judge (Florence Stanley, Fish's wife on "Barney Miller") who becomes like a mother figure for the new family.

If you've been following along and have made it this far, you may have noticed that not only are the selections getting better, but they might even be a bit familiar. That's because even though CTV Throwback is only available in Canada, there is another free streaming service that offers most of these shows available in the US. It's SONY Crackle, which used to be seen for free in Canada as well until it shut down in June of last year when Sony announced a partnership with CTV in which it agreed to distribute their content for free on CTV's VOD services CTV Throwback and CTV Movies. So if you are looking for an alternate option to watch these videos from the US, Sony Crackle is a great place to find them. If you want to compare the 2 sites here is what is offered in each one:

Thank you for the link. I remember posting it when CTV first had it on their Throwback page a few weeks ago. Like all shows that they acquired, CTV did manage to get every episode of the series and the complete episodes (all 10 of them) can be seen here:

"Muddling Through" would be easily forgotten today if not for the fact that it starred Jennifer Aniston just before she landed the role of Rachel on "Friends". Another show which I feel deserves the same fate is this week's latest offering from CTV Throwback: "Jackie Chan Adventures" starring Jackie Chan as himself in a cartoon series that was a showcase for his martial arts skills and limited acting ability as a movie action hero. According to streaming guide JustWatch.com:
"This series ran on Kids' WB! from September 9, 2000 to July 8, 2005 for a total of 95 episodes, or 5 seasons. During its run, it was also shown on Cartoon Network, and afterwards, its reruns landed on Disney XD."

Last week, CTV Throwback offered "Jackie Chan Adventures", one of the worst cartoon series of all time. This week, they have another terrible anime feature. (Aren't they all?) It's "Max Steel", a series based on the popular action figure toy that makes the Transformers series look like a Shakespearean drama. The franchise has been rebooted many times since the character was introduced in 2000. This stomach-churning version is from 2013:

Since CTV Throwback debuted last year, it has presented some great series to be streamed for free and even a few clunkers like "Who's The Boss?". If I can pinpoint one big weakness in the service so far --- and it's become very noticeable in the past few weeks --- is that the many cartoons they have added range from bad to worse to total excrement. The latest additions to the site, both of which are based on famous movies, fit this description perfectly. They are "Godzilla: The Series", and "The Karate Kid". Watch at your own risk or your own amusement if you like to laugh in the wrong places.

This week, CTV has thankfully gone away from the wretched cartoon series that they have presented recently to give you the very cartoon-like sitcom "Parker Lewis Can't Lose", a funny and underrated sitcom from the early 1990s that represents one of FOX's best shows. The series stars Corky Nemec as Parker Lewis, a high school teen with a seemingly perfect life, yet still not without his share of problems, including a mean but hilarious school bully. This series can also be streamed on SONY Crackle in US, except that it only offers the first 2 seasons for free while CTV has all 3. It seems that Canadians can't lose either!

This week, CTV Throwback offers one of the most beloved series in TV history and my personal favorite among all of Norman Lear's hit series. It's "One Day At A Time" starring Bonnie Franklin and featuring a great cast including Mackenzie Phillips and Valerie Bertinelli as her lovely but mischievous daughters and Pat Harrington as the hilarious Schneider the handyman. In Canada, the show can also be seen on CHCH-TV at 12:30 pm as part of their great retro lineup. In fact, CHCH and CTV Throwback are the only places where you can find all 9 seasons and 208 episodes. Online, you can get the first 2 seasons for free on Crackle. The rest I was able to find on YouTube from various users:

This week, CTV Throwback offers 3 new titles, none of which lasted very long, but still might be worth watching if you're a fan of their stars.
The best of the 3 is undoubtedly "Ned & Stacey" (FOX, 1995-97, 2 seasons, 46 episodes), one of FOX's early hits, back when they knew how to make sitcoms. It's about a couple who get married for their own convenience but grow to love each other over time. It stars Debra Messing ("Will & Grace"), Thomas Haden Church ("Wings"), and Greg Germann ("Ally McBeal"). All of them are very good in their roles and it's too bad that this didn't last longer.

Just in time for Back To School Week, there is also "Bad Teacher", a sitcom from CBS that you may have missed back in 2014 that was based on the hit movie starring Cameron Diaz who sadly didn't appear in this 13 episode ripoff. To try to make up for this, I have included links for both the movie and the series.

Last but least, there is "What About Joan?" another short-lived sitcom (ABC, 2001-03, 2 seasons, 21 episodes) about another 'bad teacher' played by Joan Cusack, sister of actor John Cusack, neither of whom are likely to do any more sitcoms based on how badly this show failed. It was so bad that I only have one link for it.

Next week, the CTV TV network will introduce their 4 new specialty channels (CTV Comedy, CTV Drama, CTV Life, and CTV Sci-Fi) which will form the CTV "Super Hub" that will also include the CTV Throwback and CTV Movies video sites. The new TV channels are also getting new re-designed web sites. I wonder if the Throwback page will look different as well. At least they can try to put some better series on there. It's the least they can do to start off a new season!
While the CTV TV network introduced a re-branding of 4 of their specialty channels today, their CTV Throwback web page remains unchanged, except for one new significant addition which I know you will love. It's the classic sitcom "Diff'rent Strokes" starring Gary Coleman and Conrad Bain about a rich man and his pretty teenage daughter (Dana Plato) who adopt a pair of poor black orphans Arnold and Willis Jackson (played by Todd Bridges). Sadly, the series might be better known today for the tragic lives of its young stars than for what a good show it was when it was on, but today, the series still holds up and is still popular with fans, as is its great spinoff "The Facts Of Life" which is also on CTV Throwback:

This week, CTV Throwback gives you a series that William Shatner starred in after making "Star Trek" which ended up being another hit for him. He played "T J Hooker" a tough police officer aided by his young assistants Adrian Zmed and Heather Locklear, who is clearly the best reason to watch the series. As usual, I have provided many options for you to do so, including a link from SonyCrackle, its US rights holder, which recently redesigned their website to make it easier to navigate. I think they did a good job!

This week, CTV Throwback offers "VIP", the series that Pamela Anderson starred in after "Baywatch", in which she plays the leader of a group of bodyguards. The acronym VIP stands for "Vallery Irons Protection". Vallery Irons is her character's name. The series lasted for 4 seasons and 63 episodes but suffers badly when compared to "Baywatch". If you ask me, she should never have left the beach.

This week, CTV Throwback has "Hart To Hart", the popular drama series from 1979 (not 1969, as indicated on the homepage) starring Robert Wagner and Stephanie Powers as a married couple who work as detectives. This is one series that CTV doesn't share with SonyCrackle, so they managed a real find here. You can see all the episodes for free on DailyMotion as well:

This week, CTV Throwback scrapes the bottom of the animation barrel by giving us "The Boondocks", a very weak attempt at humor from the Adult Swim network. It's about a family who moves to the suburbs (or "the boonies", short for "Boondocks" in slang terms) and hates every minute of it. So will you when you start watching it. Note that one of the links is from Facebook. If you look carefully, you can find a lot of great videos from classic shows on there. This just doesn't happen to be one of them.

This week, CTV Throwback has "The Naked Truth", a former member of NBC's "Must-See TV" lineup from 1995-98, starring Tea Leoni ("Madam Secretary") as a divorced photographer who is working for a sleazy tabloid, with Holland Taylor ("Two and a Half Men") playing her boss. This show is hard to find on US sites but I still found 2 complete episodes for you.

This week, CTV Throwback has another failed sitcom from the archives of TBS (Turner's Broadcasts Stink!) called "10 Items Or Less" based on a movie starring Morgan Freeman as a supermarket manager for a bunch of inept employees. If this sounds a little familiar to you, it's a little close to home for me. In the 1980s, the CTV network introduced a Canadian-made series called "Check It Out" starring "Get Smart"'s Don Adams playing the same type of role as Freeman, where he is now The Chief and his employees are all "86s". Hopefully, CTV can find this series in their archives and feature it on their Throwback page soon. In the meantime, here is where you can watch "10 Items Or Less":

When CTV Throwback launched last year, one of the first (and best) series that they offered was the original "Charlie's Angels", the mega-hit that launched Farrah Fawcett, Cheryl Ladd, and the other stars into instant superstardom. Recently, like nearly every series that was around before Y2K, it has been rebooted in the form of a new series and a pair of movies. All of them can now be seen on CTV Throwback and CTV Movies, including the 2011 series which begins streaming today.

Today is a "big day" for CTV Throwback as it debuts 2 more series, one that is easily forgotten and one which likely deserved a better fate. That would be "The Michael J Fox Show" which marked the popular Canadian actor's return to television after a long absence due to his long and recurring battle with Parkinson's disease which today is still ongoing. The show started off well and looked promising but the ratings tailed off right away and NBC cancelled it after one very short season. I think they should have given it at least another season because he had certainly earned the right to be given the benefit of the doubt based on his past track record. Instead, NBC chose to invest their time and money on an even worse actor and show "The Sean Hayes Show" which is one of the worst sitcoms I have ever seen. When that series was mercifully cancelled, NBC still forgave him and brought him back with the rest of the "Will and Grace" cast to reboot their old series. That hasn't worked out so well either but they still got 2 seasons out of it giving Hayes the last laugh since Fox hasn't been back on TV since. That only proves that life is unfair! A further example of this is that Robin Williams, who was a great friend of Fox, had his own new sitcom "The Crazy Ones" out at the same time which I thought was a good show and the 2 actors had a friendly bet over which series would last longer. Sadly, "The Crazy Ones" was cancelled quickly as well and this may have been a big reason why Williams took his own life not long after. Another example of an actor and a show that deserved a better fate.
One series that was cancelled quickly to the surprise and sadness of absolutely no one was a show called "Big Day" which traces the life of a couple who is about to get married and each week it counts down to their "big day", the wedding itself. This was supposed to involve one couple for each season but it never made it past the normal 13 episodes so only one couple got to be lucky enough to make it all the way through. Afterwards, their friends and family got to see them on TV but nobody else seemed to care and so the series was cancelled.
You can now stream both of these series for free on CTV Throwback (Canada) and Sony/Crackle (USA).

This week, CTV Throwback is offering a not-so-grand total of 5 sitcoms from recent years that were all cancelled in a big hurry. Only one of them lasted for more than 10 episodes and a couple of them were spectacular failures, which may account for the less than normal link amounts on this page.
The luckiest of the group is "Brothers" (FOX, 2009, 12 episodes) about a former NFL star (played by former NFL star Michael Strahan) who returns to his hometown to be closer to his brother (Darryl Mitchell) and his family.
CTV (https://www.ctv.ca/Brothers#/1)
Crackle (https://www.sonycrackle.com/watch/3552)
The most controversial show of the 5 is "Emily's Reasons Why Not" (ABC 2006) starring Heather Graham as an advice columnist who can't seem to follow her own advice when it comes to dating and relationships. I saw the pilot because I loved Heather Graham in "Austin Powers" and was very surprised to learn that it was going to be the last episode. Viewer reaction to it was overwhelmingly negative and ABC jumped the gun and cancelled it on the spot. Other episodes were made and were shown later after the damage had already been done. 5 episodes, including the infamous pilot, are now available on CTV:
CTV (https://www.ctv.ca/Emilys-Reasons-Why-Not#/1)
Next is another show that I loved to watch but was sad to see go so soon. That was "Imaginary Mary" (ABC, 2017, 8 episodes) starring Jenna Elfman ("Dharma & Greg") as a woman whose imaginary friend from childhood reappears in her adult life. I thought that this was a nice, cute show and I actually loved it more than "Dharma & Greg" but it was cancelled right away before I could enjoy it further but now you can see it again for free here:
CTV (https://www.ctv.ca/Imaginary-Mary#/1)
Next is "Us and Them" (FOX, 2018!!, 7 episodes) about a couple named Gavin and Stacey, played by Jason Ritter (son of John) and Alexis Bledel ("Gilmore Girls") who run into many problems when they decide to start dating. The biggest one was that they didn't make it to Christmas before their show was cancelled. This was based on a British series called "Gavin and Stacey" and was supposed to premiere in 2013 but FOX held it back only to see it fail miserably when it finally made it on the air 5 years later.
CTV (https://www.ctv.ca/Us-and-Them#/1)
Crackle (https://www.sonycrackle.com/watch/3713?autoplay=u)
Finally, there is "Your Family Or Mine" (TBS, 2015, 9 episodes) which came from TBS so you know right away that it's going to be terrible. The show was about another young couple whose families didn't get along very well. The two fathers are played by veteran acting legends Richard Dreyfuss and Ed Begley Jr., who would have better luck a few years later when he joined the cast of ABC's new hit series "Bless This Mess".

Personally, I hope CTV gets better shows next week. They don't get much worse than the ones they've had this past month, but I'm sure they'll try.
This week, CTV Throwback debuts 4 more shows that are only slightly better than last week's trash pile but then they make up for this in a big way by releasing news about next month's shows and there's a few great ones in that group. Details will be found later on this page, but first, the bad news:
Last week, CTV Throwback gave us 5 series that lasted for a combined total of 38 episodes. This week, we have 4 shows that combined for 47 episodes so that's a slight improvement. Or is it? Here's what's new today:
First, there is "Battle Creek" about a pair of mismatched cops starring Josh Duhamel.
Battle Creek - CTV (https://www.ctv.ca/Battle-Creek#/1)
Second, "Last Resort" about the crew of a nuclear sub called "Colorado" who end up stranded on an island after they have been declared enemies of the United States:
Last Resort - CTV (https://www.ctv.ca/Last-Resort#/1)
Last Resort - Crackle (https://www.sonycrackle.com/watch/2035)
Next, there is "Mad Dogs" where a group of men in their 40s reunite for some not-so-exciting adventures in Europe.
Mad Dogs - CTV (https://www.ctv.ca/Mad-Dogs#/1)
Last and least, you have "The Beast" about a tough, mean-looking FBI agent, played by Patrick Swayze, whose new partner has been assigned to keep an eye out for him in case he runs into trouble, which naturally happens each week.
The Beast - CTV (https://www.ctv.ca/The-Beast#/1)
The Beast - Crackle (https://www.sonycrackle.com/watch/640)
Coming to CTV Throwback next Thursday, 4 more "short-lived series" that you may or may not love: "Canterbury's Law", "Cashmere Mafia", "Mob Doctor", and "Viva Laughlin". Not very promising isn't it? But wait!!!
Now for the good news:
If you are like me and you have been a little less than impressed (to say the least) about the weak content that has been showing up on CTV Throwback in the last month or so, then I can assure you that better times and better shows (and much older shows as well!) are ahead beginning next month, just in time for Christmas. An early present arrived last week in the form of this press release from CTV/Bell Media's official news blog page called "The Lede":
December 2019: CTV Throwback and CTV Movies Overview - November 14, 2019 (https://www.bellmedia.ca/the-lede/press/ctv-december-overview/)
Now this group looks very impressive indeed! The month begins with a pair of recent hits, "The Guardian" (Thu Dec. 5) and "Family Law" (Dec.12), plus, for the first time, full seasons of "Baywatch" (Seasons 3 and 4 - Dec. 10, Seasons 5 and 6 - Dec. 11) and winds up with a couple of real classics to binge watch during the holidays: "The Flying Nun" (Dec. 19) and "Fantasy Island" (Dec. 26).
Finally, a couple of observations about CTV Movies that could affect the CHCH retro schedule next year. "Fantasy Island" was part of that lineup last summer as was "Gidget" with Sally Field. I remember mentioning at that time that the lineups for both platforms appear to be interchangeable since both have contracts with Sony and here is a great example. CTV Movies has all the "Gidget" movies on its site but not the TV series. Now they're adding "The Flying Nun" to their Throwback site so will "Gidget" follow next year? It seems fairly certain to me. And will "The Flying Nun" show up on CHCH next year as well? I would count on that too, possibly when "The Jeffersons" is done --- and that show can't end soon enough for me! As they always say on TV, stay tuned!
icecream 11-22-2019, 10:19 PM Next is "Us and Them" (FOX, 2018!!, 7 episodes) about a couple named Gavin and Stacey, played by Jason Ritter (son of John) and Alexis Bledel ("Gilmore Girls") who run into many problems when they decide to start dating. In honor of the US Thanksgiving holiday, CTV Throwback has done their part by serving up a few turkeys in the last month and they have more on the way like this week's group:

Last month, CTV issued a press release which had these 3 series scheduled to be released for Nov. 28 along with a 4th short-lived series called "Viva Laughlin". I wasn't able to find it on the Throwback page but I will post it if and when CTV decides to release it at a later date. Like the 3 shows listed above, it's not very good, but, as I mentioned before, there is better stuff coming in December, so be patient for now.
icecream 11-30-2019, 01:00 PM Not sure why they call it Throwback Thursdays as a lot of the shows you have listed come from the last decade or two. Seems to be largely shows from after the 1900s ended now.
At last, after a painful dose of junk that has been accumulating for the past month or so, CTV Throwback has finally offered their first legitimate "throwback" hit series in quite a while and full seasons of another that is sure to be a favourite with fans in the cold winter months ahead. In doing so, CTV has pushed up the premiere dates that were mentioned in their press release that I posted last week, meaning that it's possible that "The Flying Nun", scheduled for December 19, might turn up next Thursday the 12th instead. I'll keep my fingers crossed and my eyes open just in case. Meanwhile, let's unwrap and enjoy a couple of early Christmas presents courtesy of CTV.
CTV Throwback - December 2019 - Original Premiere Dates (https://www.bellmedia.ca/the-lede/press/ctv-december-overview/)

It's "Fantasy Island", the popular long-running series starring Ricardo Montalban and his assistant Herve Villechaise as Tattoo, replaced later in the series by Christopher Hewett, the future star of "Mr. Belvedere".

Sal, I wasn't aware of CTV Throwback but am very happy that I have found it. Thanks for the links & keeping this thread so updated. I appreciate it.
Thank you for your support. I'm glad to help.
Unfortunately, CTV wasn't much help to me today. The only new item they have added this week is Seasons 5 and 6 of Baywatch:
Baywatch - Seasons 5 and 6 (https://www.ctv.ca/Baywatch#/5)
Meanwhile, Seasons 3 and 4 have both disappeared, which I find to be both sad and strange. Maybe we should send Pamela Anderson and her "VIP" crew over to investigate. Would it not be easier to just stream the entire series instead like they have done with the others?
More bad news: January doesn't get much better as far as worthwhile content goes, although if you're a fan of Will Smith and Adam Sandler, CTV Movies will offer some of their best roles to stream for free, like "Men In Black", "Ali", "Anger Management", "Big Daddy", and "Bad Boys". There will also be a few movies that were actually good: "And Justice For All", "Easy Rider", "Five Easy Pieces", "The Bridge On The River Kwai", to name a few. All four will premiere on Jan. 23.
January 2020 - CTV Throwback and CTV Movies (https://www.bellmedia.ca/the-lede/press/january-2020-ctv-throwback-and-ctv-movies-overview/)
For now, at least we have "The Flying Nun" to look forward to. More details on that and other new arrivals next week.
This is the last CTV Throwback before Christmas so I'll step aside for a couple of weeks and begin again in the New Year with new updates and streams for January 2020. If anything new comes up before then, I'll include it with the others. As a bonus, I will also include the new "Mad About You" reboot which the specialty channel CTV Comedy will debut on January 3. Speaking of reboots, and isn't everybody doing one these days, did you know that "Fantasy Island" had their own remake over 20 years ago? In the 1998 version, Malcolm McDowell plays Mr Roarke, surrounded by many beautiful assistants, all looking to take Tattoo's place but not quite making it:

Now for some very exciting news! If you love Sally Field, your prayers have been answered. Just like they promised, CTV Throwback has delivered "The Flying Nun" just in time for Christmas. Every episode is here to stream and watch including the Christmas episode "Wailing In A Winter Wonderland":

As you may know, Sally Field gained the leading role in "The Flying Nun" after starring in "Gidget" 2 years earlier. It was a good show that looked to have a promising future, but ABC cancelled it after only one season, yet they loved Sally and promised her another series. This was it.
There is a possibility that "Gidget" might be added to the Throwback roster next year now that "The Flying Nun" is here. CTV Movies has all the "Gidget" movies that you can watch until then, from the original 1959 feature that starred Sandra Dee to "Gidget Gets Married" when an adult Gidget gets married:
