What I mean by "not talked about" is that they don't even get mentioned when people ask for recommendations even though their qualities are undisputable. These are in particular, shows that enjoyed critical and viewers' acclaim, but have for whatever the reasons, vanished into oblivion nowadays.

People started talking about Murphy Brown again because of that awful revival. But yes on the others, especially NYPD Blue. I remember when that show was supposed to be this unforgettable trailblazer that would change TV forever, but now it's as if it never existed. I guess it became completely overshadowed by stuff like The Sopranos and Breaking Bad.

I suspect that NYPD Blue doesn't get talked about too much these days because:
Its home video release was spotty (although the entire run is now available, and can be found on Hulu and Amazon) so it fell out of the public consciousness.

Other crime dramas like The Wire and The Shield have since outdone it. You can argue that NYPD Blue's contemporary, Homicide: Life on the Street, outdid it as well.

It was one of those shows that was groundbreaking TV for a big network. But literally EVERYONE copied off of it.

I think people decided to forget it existed because the finale pissed them off so much.

I just remembered another one: Dinosaurs. I think that's another show people decided to forget because of the series finale, which ended on a major downer.

I believe the finale for LOST was considered one of the most disappointing finales ever. Or at least one of the worst.

The O.C. started off strong, but only lasted 4 seasons.

A lot with the downturn had to do with the writing and Mischa Barton's departure from the show. She chose to leave to take a break from the Hollywood spotlight.

Maybe the producers (or partly her decision) was to kill off the character. It added an unnecessary tragic element to the show added. If she needed a break, they could have had her study in England (like Brenda on 90210), or just had Rachel Bilson be more of the lead girl while she is less involved. It also now backfires on a new level that the show can't be rebooted. But apparently she was killed off season 3, and the show declined in ratings every season after season 1.

The show was popular with viewers born in the early 80's (millenials but the older millenials). I got hooked on the show through DVD sets, after about 3 years after the show launched. But it's the FOX viewership that matters when it involves cancellation. Around that time, Facebook and social media was becoming more an attraction than TV shows, so maybe viewers were dropping off with their attention span shifted elsewhere. The show was 70% or more on the kids, but there was more story on the parent/adult characters, than say 90210. I actually liked Melinda Clarke's manipulative/cunning Julie Cooper character. Too bad the show didn't last longer.

Survivor hasn't been relevant in about 10 years. I remember when that show was big enough to where both TV and radio talk shows would talk about episodes the next morning, everyone quoted the cast members, and the people that appeared on there became famous enough to move on to bigger and better things (see: Elizabeth Hasselbeck). No one cares about that show anymore.

No, but that's because it been on for almost 20 years. It premiered when Bill Clinton was in office! The media always talks about whatever new thing is out. It ran for over a decade and three spinoffs though. CBS still has NCIS, another forensics acronym show, which is a transpose of three of the CSI letters. It anyways seems like all these CBS dramas are similar.

Yeah, so? The point is a lot of people still watch it. You said nobody cares about it anymore, which is not true.

Though I love the show, I'd say "True Blood" is mostly forgotten now. I used to see merchandise (such as the True Blood bottled drink) and the book series sold at a lot of places when the show was currently airing.

"Game of Thrones" took over as HBO's new hit.

Peyton Place was very popular in the 60's , yet is for gotten by many today.

Falcon Crest was on the 80s and is forgotten by many(It was on when Dallas and Knot's Landing was, so maybe that's why)

Here's Lucy. This show seems to be the most obscure of all of Ball's shows.... and the most hated of the 3. This is my 2nd favorite Lucille Ball show.

Aside from Murphy Brown which got talked about thanks to the ill-fated revival, that's a pretty great list of shows that were once huge hits or cultural touchstones and seem to be rarely thought of anymore.

For a brief moment in time, this comedy starring five talking dinosaur puppets was a pop-culture phenomenon. The Sinclair family was played by puppeteers in mascot-sized costumes with animatronic heads whose voices were dubbed by actors (including future Arrested Development star Jessica Walter as mom Fran). Otherwise they were an ordinary working-class family, trying to make a living in 60 million BC. The show’s Flintstones-meets-Roseanne schtick won over TGIF viewers, and kids lined up for Talking Baby Sinclair dolls that spouted his catchphrases, “Not the mama!” and “Gotta love me!” (It was a simpler time). Enthusiasm for Dinosaurs cooled in the later years, when it became more of a Simpsons-style satire. But what actually killed Dinosaurs was a move away from TGIF after 51 episodes to Wednesday nights. And we mean “killed” literally: In the show’s notorious series finale, dino dad Earl accidentally caused the Ice Age that triggered the dinosaurs’ extinction.
