"Seasons 4 and 5 admittedly haven’t been Broad City’s funniest; the show, still one of the wittiest and most inventive on TV, no longer seems to defy gravity," says Inkoo Kang, in marking the Comedy Central series' finale Thursday. "(There’s a reason most comedies peak by Season 3 and rarely retain their freshness thereafter.) But watching Abbi and Ilana grow up has been a moving and surprising treat—and in retrospect, a necessary chapter that made the characters more relatable and fully fleshed-out. It was their itchy youths that made us fall in love with Broad City, but it’s also been a bittersweet delight watching Abbi and Ilana evolve."

Comedy Central execs on their post-Broad City reinvention: They consider The Other Two its "natural successor" (https://www.vulture.com/2019/03/comedy-central-the-other-two-reinvention.html)

The Other Two is part of Comedy Central's mission to include more diverse voices, which can also be seen in upcoming series Awkwafina, South Side and Robbie. While ratings haven't been great for The Other Two, Comedy Central's development heads Sarah Babineau and Jonas Larsen say it's been a hit in on-demand viewing, resulting its its quick renewal for Season 2. “This is a natural successor to Broad City and now we need to just stick with it," says Babineau. Larsen adds that Comedy Central's goal now is to "really grow beyond our core audience and really tap into our growth audience, which is the audience that occasionally samples Comedy Central."
