Lowe famously turned down (https://www.eonline.com/news/522255/rob-lowe-turned-down-patrick-dempsey-s-grey-s-anatomy-role-and-four-more-love-life-book-revelations) the Dr. Derek Shepherd role that went to Patrick Dempsey. On the Marc Maron's WTF podcast, Lowe recalled rejecting the role. “Dude, I turned down Grey’s Anatomy. To play McDreamy," Lowe said. “That’s probably cost me $70 million,” Lowe said jokingly, before adding, “Eh, it’s just money.”

I guess I could see Rob in that role but I prefer Patrick Dempsey!

Rob Lowe likes that he is considered a comedic and dramatic actor, says he doesn't regret turning down Grey's Anatomy (https://variety.com/2021/tv/news/rob-lowe-greys-anatomy-parks-and-recreation-lowe-files-1234901113/)

"I’m lucky enough to be on both lists — the comedy list and the drama list, which is good," says the 9-1-1: Lone Star star in an interview with Variety. "It’s good not to be pigeonholed." As for passing on Grey's Anatomy, Lowe says if he had played McDreamy, he would've never starred on Parks and Recreation. “This is what longevity, experience and recovery give you. There are no accidents,” he says. “Whatever decision you come to, if you come to it from the right place, it’s never wrong.”
