View Full Version : Beaver's Prep School
UncleBilly 01-31-2005, 07:14 PM I thought it was funny tonight when Wally was talking about how he would have the bedroom all to himself when Beaver went away to Falbrook. Just a few episodes ago, Beaver was talking about when Wally would be gone at State and Beaver would have the bedroom to himself. The writers sure messed up on that one!

Why was Wally rearranging the boys room when he knew he was going away to college in the fall? ( Assuming that "State" was not within reasonable commuting distance) Beaver also seemed surprised the fire station where Gus worked was permanently closed....it was within walking distance from his house and school I'm sure he passed by it many times. It reminds me of the scene in Hazel "So Long Brown Eyes" episode, when "The Grotto" bar/restaurant was closed and boarded up for years. Hazel was such a busybody, and knew everyone. and everything that was going around town ......Why din't she lile Beaver know the place was closed!
stevea 03-25-2019, 12:58 PM All good points, and in past threads we've wondered what the purpose of Martha's visit was...just to give Beaver the beanie?
As far as the firehouse being closed goes, we should have had an episode for that..."Goodbye, Mr. Gus."
I just saw the Brown Eyes episode again the other day...I don't like that guy. Why do so many women go for drifter types? Good point about the Grotto...she probably would have also known about the menu change at the next joint they ended up at.
(I've merged an old thread on this into this one.)
Scrabjan1 03-25-2019, 06:41 PM Arranging the furniture in the bedroom was really bizarre. Did you notice Wally wanted Beaver to help move the big bookcase and all the books and stuff were still on the shelves. A real blooper. Did Wally assume he wouldn’t graduate and would spend another year in high school? This was just like when Wally wanted to go to military school and got cold feet. You knew Beaver would never go to prep school. A guy who is dyeing his shoe laces black so he can put them in his shoes before school is mentally challenged.
stevea 03-25-2019, 06:56 PM I got a kick out of Beaver's socks with holes in them. June was quite knowledgable of what was in the drawers...wouldn't she have gotten rid of those?
Stuff on top of the bookcase...that reminds me of a Honeymooners episode, where Ed and Ralph were going to move the bookcase to clean behind it, and Ed thought it was too heavy. So he took out the drawers and stacked them on the bookcase, and they moved it. Brilliant!
Scrabjan1 03-26-2019, 11:13 AM At least the Honeymooners scene was Ed being Ed. Wally was supposed to be sharper than that. Beaver at times really was not very bright. Can’t think of too many times that he was actually smart. He let Larry, Gilbert, Whitey and Eddie lead him astray. I couldn’t stand him in Poor Loser thinking now he can go to the ballgame. Ward mentioned Mickey Mantle does that mean he would be playing at Mayfield Stadium?
stevea 03-26-2019, 12:35 PM Well at least Mule Saunders was there...he hit one over the center field fence.
Yep how many times did Beaver say no to Eddie, Gilbert, or Larry? The one thing I can think of (which isn't really a good example) was not going with Gilbert and Richard to the old house, where Richard broke a window.
I think the smartest thing he might have done was selling water when the workers shut it off (and the neighbor lady told Ward he was a Communist). But he was younger and smarter then.
Scrabjan1 03-26-2019, 02:37 PM He was a lot smarter when he was young. He tried to tell Larry “no” many times about playing with Ward’s baseball but Larry won. Larry was quite persistent.
Beaver must not have read any of the Three Musketeers otherwise he would know that movie was a satire. I’ve seen that movie and it’s pretty bad.
stevea 03-26-2019, 03:01 PM On the other hand he believed the spanking machine story Larry told him, got stuck in Mrs. Rayburn's office, and got stuck in a fence the next day. Talk about conspicuous!
Scrabjan1 03-26-2019, 06:32 PM Or “conspicous.” The one word for Beaver was gullible. At times when he was young you almost felt sorry for all the trouble he got into. When he lied he possessed a parrot I had no sympathy.
stevea 03-26-2019, 08:06 PM Even Larry's jaw dropped when Beaver said he had a parrot.
Thant's one mess that was all Beaver's doing. Nobody talked him into that whopper.
Scrabjan1 08-30-2019, 09:45 AM Decided to dig up an old post about the prep school episode instead of starting another. I was laughing my “head” off with the posts. Talking about how mentally challenged Beaver was. Hey how do we even know that he would have been accepted in such a prestigious school back east? Especially since he can’t think for himself. Love how Aunt Martha flew out to Mayfield just to give him a beanie. Did she then fly back as she was gone by late afternoon. Love how that girl in school goes from Susie to Kathy Gregory to Donna. Wally also had a Kathy Gregory. We all knew that Beaver would go from enthusiastic about prep school to “I don’t want to go.”
stevea 08-30-2019, 10:14 AM He became even less enthusiastic after his nostalgia tour.
Aunt Martha said she found the beanie just as she was leaving. So the reason for the visit was.......????
And she was flying in. Didn't she and Mrs. Elkins drive down from Riverside or Bellport to visit the caverns and were late 'cause they were misdirected? And she commented about the eastern looking house so far west. Just how far away is Riverside?
And didn't the boys take the bus up to visit her? Or maybe that was the train trip. One of them was for Beaver to visit Paytons and the other was Aunt Martha--oh, yeah, the bus was the Paytons and Beaver got on the wrong bus. Either way it wasn't by plane. And the Beaver being a rock episode, it's a cinch he didn't fly up to see her then either.
Scrabjan1 08-30-2019, 06:39 PM Aunt Martha moved a lot probably because her brother who married a French girl kept moving in next door.
stevea 08-30-2019, 06:42 PM Yeah, Martha was gonna tell the French girl story later but we never got to hear it. Other than June telling Ward that when you're a Bronson, just the fact that she's French is enough of a problem.
Schmoopie 08-31-2019, 03:29 AM I liked this episode and I thought it was funny. Just watched it a little while ago, but I did find it funny that Wally was rearranging the room before Beaver even left for school.
stevea 08-31-2019, 07:12 AM Or that Wally was rearranging the room even though he was going to college in the fall, probably State.
Scrabjan1 08-31-2019, 07:46 AM I guess the writers of Lumpy’s Scholarship weren’t the same ones who wrote Beaver’s Prep School. I think the fraternity episode comes soon and Wally’s off to college again.
Expecting Beaver to move that wall unit with books, sports equipment etc was really lame. Beaver wasn’t going to prep school until after summer and school was still in session.
