While I know that Chrissy was written out of the season 5 shows by citing that she was visiting a sick relative and by making those end-of-the-show cameo appearances (where she called home), was her final departure from the show referenced on the show?

When Terri came on board as the permanent third roommate, I don't remember them saying that Chrissy wasn't coming back or that she decided to stay with her relative permanently

All I remember is that Cindy Snow moved out, Terri moved in and Chrissy was never referenced again.

Does anyone remember differently?

I think the last time she was referenced was on the episode where the Ropers returned although I could be wrong. I do know that her absence was never explained. They just sort of forgot her.

No, they never explained why she left. There was too much bad blood there. If this were a soap opera you would have to explain it but as a sitcom no one cared as long as the show was still funny!

So in essence, they Chuck Cunningham'd her.

Off to Sitcom Limbo, with no explanation of what happened.

In the 2nd episode called "Justice for Jack", it was explained that Chrissy was away visiting her parents so I guess we were supposed to assume that her parents became ill and she was taking care of them. That was a creative way to slowly phase her out of the show so we can assume they became ill and needed home care.

In the episode Crowded Romance which is the 5th episode of season 5, it's explained that Chrissy went back to Fresno to take care of her sick mother

Yes that is exactly the scenario that would have explained her absence.

LOL..who is Chuck Cunningham?

He is the third and oldest sibling on Happy Days who just simply vanished from the show with no explanation and never to be mentioned again. Seasons one and briefly two only on Happy Days.

That explained her absence in season 5.

I'm referring to season 6, in which Suzanne was finally removed from the opening credits and her character was never referenced again.

Chuck Cunningham was the older brother character on the first two seasons of Happy Days. He was a recurring character who appeared occasionally.

After the second season, he was never seen again, never referred to and in the very last episode of HD, Howard Cunningham (the father) referred to "both" of he and Marion's children, omitting Chuck entirely.

He went off to sitcom limbo and we never knew what happened to him.

Well we could assume that her mom became ill since she never came back to live with jack and janet

The only time Chrissy was mentioned in season six was during the Lucille Ball retrospective. She was never mentioned in the show again.

That's kinda like Henry Jefferson, George's brother, who has multiple appearances in All in the Family. But then when the Jeffersons moved a few miles away to Manhattan for ELEVEN seasons they NEVER even mentioned him!

It's like Henry fell off the face of the earth!

Really? I thought that was another brother or something because that Gary Coleman character wasn't mentioned on AITF. I think he was 7 or 8 years old in that episode.

While we are on the topic of characters who disappeared from a show, there are two more that I would like to mention. They are Tiger the dog who disappeared during the second season of "The Brady Bunch" and Uncle Ed who disappeared during the second season of "Gimme a Break!". After these characters disappeared, the remaining characters acted as if these characters never existed.

No it was Henry Jefferson but he just wasnt seen. I think the actor was involved in something else at the time. You maybe thinking of Alan Willis who was played by a different actor in season 5

I think that's what we'll have to believe, because the show never told us otherwise.

You think they would have at least had a line of dialogue that explained her permanent absence, like "Chrissy's a good daughter since she decided to stay with her Mom permanently."

But they were so bitter they couldn't even give the audience true closure.

Tiger's absence was due to a sad real life happening: The dog apparently got loose and was hit by a car.

That's the way it should've been from the start. Her dumb blonde act was AWFUL from day. John carried the comedy load NOT her.

It should've been Terri with Cindy as an on/off visitor from season 1 onwards!

With good reason! She staged an open mutiny thereby disrupting the show & causing a LOT of chaos for her fellow actors and production crew!

She was a greedy @#$% who only thought of HERSELF!!

Chrissy was never mentioned again, Cindy was never mentioned again after that episode when Janet wore that blonde wig and treated Cindy badly. Cindy walked out of the Reagle Beagle never to be seen again. Lana disappeared. The Ropers were never mentioned or heard from again after that last guest appearance. The show had a habit of just forgetting about characters. Nobody even came back for Janet's wedding.lol

Chrissy......decided to stay in Fresno

Cindy......was pissed with Janet and stayed on UCLA campus

Lana..........moved to another apt in LA

Ropers........was still living in their house

If the Ropers was going to make a guest appearance it should have been her wedding

We definitely should have seen the Ropers and Cindy at Janet's wedding. That would have been a nice farewell for Janet. Lana could have appeared, as well. (There's no way the producers would have brought Chrissy back when there was such animosity with Suzanne.)

Not Lana since her and Janet wasnt friends. Remember her purpose of coming to the apt was to see jack. she never really interacted with janet or chrissy

It would have been nice if Janet gets a letter from Chrissy wishing Janet well saying she is sorry she could not attend and saying something silly. Little details like that would have made Janet's wedding episode so much better and shown respect to long time viewers.

No, this was a very bitter fallout. Remember John & Joyce REFUSED to even to speak to her anymore & they BOTH went over a DECADE without talking to her!

Plus the producers BANNED Suzanne from set COMPLETELY so she had to film her "on the phone" scenes in a totally separate area.

So YES, this was definitely worse!
