In the episode "family Business", James open up fix-it shop in the apartment and was repairing electronic house hold items.
He was good at repairing toasters, alarm oclock, vacuums and electrical items, but it always struck me funny that he had knowledge to fix TV and radios too. Fixing items like TV or radio that have circuit boards require special knowledge or training/schooling that I am sure James lacked.
If he knew how to fix those electronic items, he probably could have got a job at electronic shop store and sure would have made more than minimum wage.

TVs and radios then had a lot of tubes and heavy wiring. Big parts of repair were more mechanical than electronic in nature.
I guess it didn't matter to James whether he could fix the TV or not. He was working on Bookman's TV and he probably didn't care if it blows up :D

$500 a month was real good money in those days which is about $2000 in todays dollar. It was a tough call. And Willona's imitation strip tease did not help that matter :D
That episode had a very funny moment where Florida crack up watching JJ (6:50 mark)...
