In TV today I've noticed that it's hard to find good talk show hosts today and I want to know why good talk show hosts disappear after a short time? Is it because talk shows today have become boring and it's hard to find a talk show host that attracts a huge audience? Take for instance in the 80's and 90's there were talk show hosts that became huge superstars such as Phil Donahue and Sally Jessy Raphael and when the world was first introduced to Oprah Winfrey in the movie The Color Purple in 1984 Oprah's superstar status would still be huge when The Oprah Winfrey Show was launched in 1986 and even today Oprah is still popular with her audience and the same thing happened when Sally Jessy Raphael launched her talk show she replaced Oprah Winfrey as talk show queen and today you don't hear nothing about Sally Jessy Raphael. When Maury Povich Montel Williams and Jerry Springer and Jenny Jones and Ricki Lake launched their talk shows in the 90's they became huge stars and Jenny Jones was coming off her former success as a game show contestant on Press Your Luck in the 80's and Jerry Springer has already been a huge star in TV. But if you look at talk show hosts today you'll won't find another Phil Donahue or another John Davidson or even another Sally Jessy Raphael in talk show hosts today. I think in the 90's the celebrity talk show fad had started with Rosie O'Donnell's talk show and when The Rosie O'Donnell Show debuted in 1998 it was a hit show and made a mega celebrity out of Rosie O'Donnell and started even more celebrity talk shows. Howie Mandel followed the trend with his own talk show The Howie Mandel Show but after it's shocking cancellation Howie's celebrity status blossomed with Deal Or No Deal and America's Got Talent. Then Donny And Marie Osmond had a talk show in 1999 and it still showed that Donny And Marie still had talent as talk show hosts and it proved that this would start a new trend of talk show hosts. And while Ellen DeGeneres and Steve Harvey have enjoyed success as talk show hosts I sure wish we had good talk show hosts like Phil Donahue and Sally Jessy Raphael in our talk shows today

Just like other forms of entertainment, today, everything is about shock value. There's no substance. I stumbled upon this thing called TMZ and thought, this really can't be a TV show, is it? These morons babbling about make believe celebrities that can't complete a sentence? That and now every talk show host must prove how much they hate Trump.
The problem is people don’t talk on talk shows. They plug. Podcasts are where it’s at. May be crazy, but Joe Rogan is the modern-day Dick Cavett with his podcast.

How on earth can anyone put Joe Rogan in the same as Dick Cavett? Geeez...

Listen to his podcasts. 3 hour conversations with scientists and notable figures. Some of his shows are strictly dedicated to MMA, but I don’t listen to those.

Regularly it seems some celebrity or other uses the format to promote a forthcoming book. The agents also agree beforehand with the producers what areas of questioning during the interview are allowed, which makes for anodyne viewing when any form of controversy is ruled out.

Hi, Bestie! The problem is there are no SMART talk show hosts. Just celebrities talking to celebrities. I think talk shows are going extinct.

IDK, I suggest that Today’s Talk Show World is seemly a bit more different than it was yesteryear.

I prefer the days of Jenny Jones and Sally Jessy Raphael where a daughter or son of well known celebrity would occasionally come and talk about their parents. I glance today on the talk shows and there is no audience questions, just hollering within the many hosts. I wish we would have the soap operas or the games shows like they did In the 1960's. In those early days, all I remember is Virginia Graham with Girl Talk.
