MeTV Gets Original Series Starring Lisa Whelchel (http://blog.sitcomsonline.com/2019/03/metv-gets-original-series-starring-lisa.html)

MeTV is proudly presenting its first original TV series, Collector's Call, premiering Sunday, April 7, at 10PM|9C. Hosted by Lisa Whelchel (Blair on The Facts of Life), the 13-episode unscripted series will introduce you to some of the biggest collectors of pop culture memorabilia in the country. These fans have amassed astonishing collections, covering everything from Winnie the Pooh to The Wizard of Oz, Coca-Cola paraphernalia to comic books… and so much more! While touring these extensive collections and learning about the collector’s fascination with their chosen items, Whelchel enlists the help of professional appraisers and experts to put an estimated value on each collection's worth.

http://www.sitcomsonline.com/photos/collectorscall.jpg

On Collector's Call, you'll find out the worth of everything from first-edition Harry Potter books with personal notes from JK Rowling to the original telephone used on The Dick Van Dyke Show -- not to mention locks of Abraham Lincoln's hair. Along the way, we discover collections featured in the Guinness Book of Records, alongside others valued in the millions of dollars. With the values established, the experts will try to tempt the collectors with a trade, offering a coveted item that would be the perfect addition to their collections. The collectors must then make an agonizing choice and decide how sentimental they are about their existing pieces…or how much they’re willing to give up for a new addition to the collection. Will they make a trade? It's the Collector's Call!

You go, Lisa!

It all starts April 7, at 10pm, but before the premiere Lisa will host a special three-hour MeTV television event to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of The Facts of Life with Lisa’s five favorite episodes and her personal stories after starring in the series.

SO cool! Set your DVRs, guys!!

We be all like: popcorn: :so

Only, I wish I could change "and her personal stories after starring in the series" to "and her personal stories WHILE starring in the series"!

And maybe one day we'll see Retro on there with his collection of "Facts of Life" scripts or me on there with all my Muppet memorabilia!

Or Lorimar, with his... eh... I'm guessing Judy Winslow lunchboxes? Lorimar, what do you collect?

I'd be honored to appear on this show, displaying the scripts.

But I suspect Julie Pie has more FOL scripts than me, as I saw on one TV show that she has an entire trunk of memorabilia from those years, so I hope she goes on the show (she's more photogenic than me, anyway), and they can reminisce about FOL and the NMMC, and whatever else. They can discuss things we never knew. Then Lisa could interview some huge Molly Ringwald collector, and Molly makes a surprise visit... I'm getting carried away, but I see the possibilities there.

No no, this is the kind of carried away I like!

'80s, how much Muppet memorabilia do you have?

A couple of bookcase shelves of "Fraggle Rock", a whole bookcase of "The Muppet Show", a DVD tower of Muppet productions, and over 3 bookcases of "Sesame Street" 1969 - 1989*.

*(I'm only interested in collecting "classic" SS, Jim Henson's era. So that's the first 20 years of the show---SS turns 50 this year. Lord, it's a good thing I don't try to collect from all 50 years!! lol)

It's spelled right.

I'm kinda scared to ask what "Jaimee Foxworth memorabilia" would include, considering her career post-Family Matters. That's why I stuck with "Judy Winslow lunchboxes".

She WHAT? She needs to go on this show! Maybe she has a globe!

Haha! Yeah, one of the TV station interviews shows her opening a trunk full of memorabilia in what must be the Piekarski-Probst basement. They cut the scene too quickly for viewers to see very much, but I suspect the trunk is full of FOL and NMMC scripts, scrapbooks from that era, each of Sue Ann's sweaters, a few pairs of Tootie's roller skates, Blair mirrors, Cindy jump ropes, Nancy phones, Molly guitars, Natalie magic markers, and a taxidermied Leon!

The Eastland Globe Collection, I'll wager, is kept in the east wing of the Piekarski-Probst Manor. ;)

When I was a kid, I collected Star Wars, He-Man, Shirt Tales, and Smurfs, but I sold off most of those collections as I was growing up. I still have, however, all original 77 Star Wars action figures.

Nowadays, I mostly just collect books.

Unfortunately, none of those occurred within those last 10 minutes, lol. But the guy did have a "Hollywood wall" of celebrity photos, including one of Lisa! And he took it down and she kindly autographed it for him, then he hung it back up. That was sweet to see. :)

The showed the one where George went to his class reunion and Jo posed as a duchess. That one is pretty funny (and I thought Liz Keifer was really beautiful). And “Seven Little Indians”. I think they ran three episodes in a two-hour slot, with plenty of promotion for Lisa’s new collectibles show. I don’t know what the other episode was.

So leading into the theme song, over some upbeat music, Lisa looks at you and says, "I'm Lisa Whelchel. You may know me from my appearances on TV," and they show a season 8 Beverly Ann cast photo of FOL including George and Andy, and a photo of her on "Survivor", side-by-side.

Okay, I've been an on-and-off collector since I was a teenager, but I feel like I just have a thimble-full of stuff compared to some of these folks. Tonight's lady has nearly 18,000 Winnie-the-Pooh items---nearly 18,000!!!

Like Cindy would say, "That's a lot of items!"

And like Blair would then say, "They probably just charged it."

;)

And at one point when they were all looking at the blueprints for the Walt Disney World Pooh ride the lady has, and she was talking about "the blueprints", Lisa interjected with, "So would that make this the 'Pooh'prints?" And the lady said, "Oh, 'Pooh'prints, that's good! I'm gonna have to start using that!"

Okay, just so you guys won't get too excited, this has NOTHING to do with any "Facts" cast members:

Lisa also said, in some segueing narration, "I wasn't expecting to meet an old friend, but that's just what happened on our way to the next room in Deb's collection..." and then it showed them all next to an old Winnie-the-Pooh costume. And Lisa said, "So I recognize this guy from my days at Disneyland! Tell me about it. :)" (the costume's from 1960)

Then after that segment they cut to Lisa talking "to" the camera (you know how they do on those mockumentary type shows), and she said, "It's one thing to own one of the original costumes from the theme park, because I - I - having been a Mouseketeer, I know that Disney doesn't let go of much of that stuff" and then they cut her off and cut to an appraiser talking to the camera.

And then before the end of the show, the Pooh collector lady said, "I was a HUGE fan of the show 'Facts of Life', so having Lisa in the house was absolutely just a blast. And what a fabulous lady, and what a great personality. And, it made me feel good that she had so much excitement to be able to share the collection with me", and while she was saying the first part of that they showed that same season 8 Beverly Ann cast photo including George and Andy. Aww, cozy friendly Lisa. :)

^--- :)

By the by, the ending of the Pooh episode was very sweet. She had told Lisa before the show that about the only thing missing from her collection was an autograph by Jim Cummings, the current voice of Winnie-the-Pooh and Tigger (she already has an autographed print from Sterling Holloway, the original voice of Disney's Pooh that she won in a raffle she bought 100 tickets for, lol).

So at the end, the appraiser presented the lady with a plush Pooh signed on the back by Jim Cummings, a color Pooh print signed to her from Jim Cummings, and then, the appraiser and Lisa played for the lady a personal video message on an electronic cellular telephone (lol) from Jim Cummings directly to her, impressed at her collection, wishing her well, and speaking to her also in both Pooh and Tigger's voices. She was absolutely overwhelmed. I mean, can you imagine if we collected Lost Girl merchandise, and someone played for us a personal video message from one of the Julies, or Felice, or Molly?? WOW!!

Is there such thing as lost girl merchandise?

Of course there is: DVD copies of the films and TV shows they appeared in or helped produce (in Felice's case), the scripts they memorized, the posters they were on, the Taco Bell standees they appeared on, the newspapers and magazines they graced, etc, etc. Molly alone must fill a room by herself, and Felice and The Julies must fill a second room, too. Julie alone must have a half a room, even without Julie!

Well, I was being facetious, since there is little-to-no actual "Lost Girl merchandise". I mean, I see what Retro's saying, and you could go that route for a collection, but I was speaking in the sense of merchandise from "The Facts of Life" that was marketed to fans promoting the characters of Nancy, Cindy, Molly, and Sue Ann.

But of course, people could always start creating some! :D

Yeah, shortly after being cast on DS/FOL, Julie Pie became the model for a popular line of mannequins; there were major press releases at the time, as her face would be seen in department stores nationwide.

Somewhere I have an article...

I don't think there was a way to focus on such a huge collection in a 22-minute show. That dude had room after room in his collection. They called it a "secret room", but it really was a "secret labyrinth".

Admittedly, they could have easily featured seven items in the collection, but they instead focused on just four. Sounds familiar...

I"m kind of behind on watching this show but I love it! Some eps are better than others, but it did renew my interest in Lisa Welshel. She's a great host and I like that the show doesn't feel like a reality show. The collections are really cool and even the ones I don't really care about are interesting to see. Yes, she really is a great host! She is SO warm, friendly, genuinely interested in these collections, and she has such a great sense of humor! You'll just be watching, listening to the collector talk, and then when you're not expecting anything, *bam*, Lisa quips something witty right off the cuff. She is so good at that!

I saw someone online complaining the show is only about "snobby rich people" and not about the everyday collector. It would be nice to see "everyday" people included too, people who can't spend dozens of thousands of dollars for overwhelmingly expensive/expansive collections.

I also saw someone post that they wish the show went into more of the collectors' items. I definitely agree with that. I would love it if the show expanded to a full hour. When you've got people with multiple-thousand items in their collections, it is bittersweet when you're seeing all this wonderful stuff, but only a sampling of it gets talked about. I would love seeing more and more items in their collections pointed out and discussed.

I think my favorite "Collector's Call eps so far have been the Wizard Of Oz and The Winnie The Pooh ones.
