Unfortunately we have sad news to report about an old school TV actor. Nathaniel Taylor, known to millions around the world as “Rollo” from the classic comedy series “Sanford and Son,” has passed away. He was 80.

According to his friend, entertainer/promoter Alonzo Williams, Taylor suffered a heart attack and was hospitalized on Saturday (02-23-19). He transitioned yesterday (02-27-19). He would have celebrated his 81st birthday next month on March 31.

Here’s what Williams had to say in honor of his longtime friend and mentor:

“Today black Hollywood lost a 70s legend Nathaniel Taylor better known as “Rollo” of the hit show Sanford and son past Feb 27th at UCLA medical center of complications from a recent heart attack. Taylors character on Sanford and was the lovable, funny but questionable friend of Lamont the co-star of the show. Services are yet to be announced.”

R.I.P. Nathaniel. Always enjoyed his appearances on S & S. :(

According to Nathaniel, Demond Wilson kept him from being on more episodes and expanding his role.

Q: What was life like on the set?

A: Fun. As long as Redd Foxx was there. If Redd wasn’t there, it was no good.

Q: How many episodes did you do as Rollo?

A: I only did 32 episodes. Demond didn’t let me do no more. Redd and me got along great. The other guy (Demond Wilson)? We didn’t get along too well. It happens.

It sounds like Wilson is scared that Nathaniel would replace him if Wilson allowed him to expand his role

That's sad news. It was so funny when Rollo could not keep a straight face when he was around Fred. Like the following scenes where Rollo try to keep composure when Fred was talking to him (at 10:45 and 15:00 minute mark).
