View Full Version : MeTV Announces New Original Show
Merry24 02-28-2019, 05:48 PM According to Me TV. Com Me TV will be airring its first Original Program called Collectors Call. It will air 13 episodes.Hosted by Lisa Welchel (She Portrayed Blair) On The Facts Of Life. It will air Every Sunday at 10pm. Starting April 7, 2019.
My question is will Me TV be making any other additional Schedule Changes? In addition will this Original be like how TVLAND shows it’s originals with Encores all over the Schedule?
TheLogoMan94 02-28-2019, 05:53 PM https://www.metv.com/collectorscall
Me-TV announced its first original series today, a series called "Collector's Call". Thirteen episodes will make up the first season. The series will be hosted by Lisa Whelchel, who acted on "The Facts of Life". The series will premiere on Sunday, April 7th.
OPINION ALERT: This looks like a "American Pickers" knockoff of some sort, only it deals with pop culture memorabilia.
Any thoughts? I, for one, wish Me-TV wouldn't delve into original series, because, OPINION ALERT, that's exactly what TV Land did, and look at them now.
*EDIT** Fixed grammar and stated opinions because a few certain people didn't understand.
TheLogoMan94 02-28-2019, 05:55 PM Looks like you beat me to this post! I actually just finished posting the same topic. I think my thread should be deleted, since this is the first one.
I wish Me-TV wouldn't try to delve into original shows, it's similar to what TV Land did.
tlc38tlc38 02-28-2019, 05:55 PM The beginning of the end for the network.
Merry24 02-28-2019, 06:04 PM lol Two good minds think alike! We can delete my post that’s fine.
TheLogoMan94 02-28-2019, 06:11 PM lol Two good minds think alike! We can delete my post that’s fine.Right?! If you want to do that, it doesn't matter to me!
Zoneboy 02-28-2019, 06:14 PM Earliest timestamp takes precedence.
Merry24 02-28-2019, 06:17 PM Does anybody know if Me TV will be having any other additional Schedule Changes?
Will this original be like TVLAND and air many encores at different times on the Regular Schedule?
PhoenixAcres 02-28-2019, 06:50 PM The beginning of the end for the network.
Yep. This is it.
Svenfan1234 02-28-2019, 07:09 PM Isn't something like this more fit for Decades?
MeTV has now definitely gone downhill for sure. Sad.
Merry24 02-28-2019, 07:36 PM Looking at Me TV’s facebook comments it looks like most people are interested.
PS Although maybe those interested are the ones who are behind the scenes of this original.
icecream 02-28-2019, 07:42 PM Wow. People bash Antenna TV for credit crunching, but at least they aren't planning any original series and I don't think they ever will. If Me-TV likes this original, gradually more and more originals will come reducing the time for classics. Sound like what happened to TV Land?
TSMIV 02-28-2019, 08:06 PM Ugh..not good news.

Let's hope this doesn't turn into another clone of TV Land...

The people who are "excited" about the original show are probably behind the scenes of this show. That's my guess too. I really wouldn't be surprised. I'll give it a chance, though.

For now, it's literally going to only be on Sunday nights at 10pm, replacing Touched by an Angel. And technically it's not their first original show. Svengoolie is their original show as well, though a horror hosted show, it still is an original show, so yeah. Definitely not their first original.
Mr. Television 02-28-2019, 08:14 PM Well Sunday's at 10 my affiliate has local programing for an hour so I'll miss it. lol Bad news though. Just show the classics. So many others that need to be seen again.

Lucky you. It probably won't be happening here, but we shall see about that.
Svenfan1234 02-28-2019, 08:18 PM Guys, seriously, this is not their first original show. Svengoolie is/was their first original show, Collector's Call is their second.

My affiliate has local news at 10 weeknights at 10 so I only get one half hour of Hogan's Heroes each night and Sundays they pre-empt it for an hour.
One original TV show for an hour or less is not the downfall of the network. Let's not turn into Chicken Little just because every schedule change doesn't fit our view of what is considered a "classic". They still have plenty of older classic shows. They have to satisfy people other than the few on this forum.

We thought the same way when it first started to happen to every other great channel that since has gone to crap. We were wrong.

We can revisit this in 5 or 10 years. If MeTV has gone the way of TVLand by then, I'll eat crow. Until then, I don't think there's too much cause for concern.
TheLogoMan94 02-28-2019, 10:40 PM Guys, seriously, this is not their first original show. Svengoolie is/was their first original show, Collector's Call is their second.
But in my opinion, the difference between "Svengoolie" and "Collector's Call" is that Svengoolie showcases classic movies, which fits Me-TV's brand of classic shows. "Collector's Call" is just an antique collection show.

And a lot of local TV channels showed classic movies with their own local hosts back in the old days. I know I used to watch them so it fits right in.

True about Svengoolie, but it's still an original show and the first one regardless of its format.
Duster76 02-28-2019, 11:20 PM A couple of points, I believe the Svengoolie TV show already existed, it was run out of a TV station in Chicago and was carried by several regional affiliates. ME-TV picked up the show for national distribution, so technically it is not an original ME-TV show.
We have been down this road too many times before with these formatted networks, History, A&E, Bravo, American Movie Classics, MTV, VH-1, TV Land, the list goes on and on. It always starts the same way (Oh we are breaking format with this one harmless new show which seems to be a good fit for our audience), it always ends the same way. This is trouble in River City, no question about it.

Svengoolie is a MeTV original because it's produced by Weigel. From 1995-2011 it was produced exclusively for WCIU, and from 2011-now MeTV produces it and acquired the Universal classic monsters package of movies specifically for this run, so yes, he is a MeTV original show and the first one, which is my point. DIfferent, yes, but it's inaccurate to report Collector's Call as the first original. MeTV posted it on their Twitter and Svengoolie himself asserted that it was untrue.
Merry24 02-28-2019, 11:52 PM December 2018 I thought it was stated Me TV is beating TVLAND. (Than It was stated TVLand plans on returning to its original roots).
I asked why Me TV wasn’t adding any new classics from the 1950’s & 1960’s and 1970’s & 1980’s.It was stated that you don’t want to change a Schedule that is working perfectly.
Than late February 2019 Me TV announced they are adding The Monkee’s to its Regular line up. (Overall this made classic TV fans happy).
Than after the announcement of The Monkee’s addition. Me TV announces they are adding its first original.
FaceReality 03-01-2019, 12:52 AM The beginning of the end for the network.
That's why I am glad to have a huge DVD collection so I don't have to depend on these retro channels. I watch what I want to watch when I want to watch it with no annoying commercials period.
The beginning of the end for the network.
Yes. Original programming is always the end for retro networks.
Zoneboy 03-01-2019, 02:29 AM I might have to watch this since I collect and sell things on eBay. Hopefully one of my 3 affiliates will air it and not preempt it to simulcast local news or other programming.
So will Touched By An Angel still be on MeTV?
icecream 03-01-2019, 11:16 AM Hopefully one of my 3 affiliates will air itUgh, you have 3 affiliates and I can't even get one.
I have two affiliates. Hopefully at least one of them won't be showing it.
My affiliate has local news at 10 weeknights at 10 so I only get one half hour of Hogan's Heroes each night and Sundays they pre-empt it for an hour.
That's how it is for one of my affiliates here as well.
LUNCH 03-01-2019, 02:08 PM There really is no need for them to introduce any type of new original show. They should just stick to what put them on the map.

I also kind of agree with that.It is only one show.I know people are concerned because of what happened with channels like Tvland and so many others. But I do not think MeTV is going to make the same mistake. On the other hand if they come out with a 2nd original show, that would be a different story.
eng51squad51 03-01-2019, 03:29 PM So will Touched By An Angel still be on MeTV?
It problem will be either drop from the schedule or move to a new time. or it be only shown on Start TV won't know till Snowpeck post the Spring schedule.

I hope it doesn't drop from the schedule, but lucky for me that I have Start TV.

I just wish Start would show it in the evenings instead of mornings.

Same. Do you know what time the show is on?
AMackII 03-04-2019, 05:32 AM I think its too soon for MeTV to air the new original.
visaman666 03-04-2019, 08:12 AM Sunday is a dead zone. I usually do my laundry on Sunday night.

This reminds me of that old show that used to air on A&E back in the early 2000's called The Incurable Collector that had John Larroquette as the host.
stevea 03-04-2019, 05:34 PM Reading the blog post it sounds pretty interesting. It's only a few episodes long--I wonder if it will go into repeats or the regular program will return.
I'm just glad they're not getting into the gutter stuff that Viacom does.
favoriteshow 03-05-2019, 12:01 AM On the other hand if they come out with a 2nd original show, that would be a different story.
I think a second original show would be fine, but a third one on there would cause a frenzy in the classic tv fan forum communities. :)
treky 03-05-2019, 02:24 AM oh no, it looks like ME TV is starting to get like TV LAND!! I've been praying this day would never come but it looks like it has.:cuss:
next thing, they'll start crunching the credits. Then H & I and COZI will start.
I'm definitely not gonna be watching it, but that's just me. I don't really watch the channel anymore anyways. I'm usually watching BBC America or the MLB Network the most. Except H&I at night for my Trek block.

*EDIT** - OK, so Merry24 beat me to this post. Can anyone either merge both threads, or just delete this one?**
Ugh. First, it's Lisa Whelchel, not Lisa Whelcher. Secondly, it's not "The Fact's of Life," it's "The Facts of Life." Thirdly, this is not a "rip-off" of American Pickers. Memorabilia collector shows have existed for quite some time, well before American Pickers. It may not be an original concept, but American Pickers is also definitely a copycat of memorabilia shows, but then again, I'd even go as far to say it's a genre of reality TV.
I'm excited about this original show, one, because I'm a fan of Lisa Whelchel, and second, I love shows about nostalgia. Honestly, I don't see this as a threat to the network's integrity to televising classic shows, I see it as expanding their wheelhouse to give us what classic TV fans want to see (well, from reading this topic, at least some of us want to see), and this is something I want to see!
I'm not sure how anyone see this as a threat to fans who are fearing that as a result of more originals, they'll show less and less classic TV shows. I think those that are, are blowing it way out of proportion. Do you honestly think Me-TV is the next TV Land? I don't!

I don't watch that show nor world I know how to spell her name, so there's that. I just happened to misspell the name. Also, it's a common mistake that I just happened to put FACT'S instead of FACTS. Furthermore, I have an opinion, and I think it's a slight ripoff. I mean, that's all. I'm not watching, so there's that.
Looks like our MeTV affiliates won’t be airing this show.
Greenbeans 03-31-2019, 06:37 PM Looks like our MeTV affiliates won’t be airing this show.
The Baltimore affiliate runs local programming after Columbo so we won't get it either.
I suspect, like Netflix, they are afraid with the networks starting their own streaming services, a lot of content won't be available and there will be a bidding war for what is left. Svengoolie runs into problems getting the rights to classic films for the same reason. Too many channels are doing sci-fi / horror programming and it's getting really competitive.
.
I wouldn't be surprised if once their MASH contract ends, CBS moves it to All Access.

It also reminds me of the Hollywood Treasure show on ScFy. It was a cool show, but it didn't do well in the ratings and was cancled after two seasons.

It doesn't say that it has ended production. The entry has it listed as "2022-" instead of "2022-2023".
It was a terrible idea and it ran into the local news.

I think it was on hiatus along with Toon In with ME due to the writer's strike last year. But since thats over, everything should be back to normal. Maybe it was quietly cancelled. MeTV would not talk about it anyway since its a bad look for the channel.

Toon In With ME was nwver on hiatus last year. They just changed the to a morning show format with special guests to get around the strikes.
