Look what someone shared on Instagram! That's right, it's everybody's favorite* little activist, Eastland's own Molly Parker! This ad featuring Molly publicly advocating for natural raisins with no interference by "man" is from 1982---during season 3/4 of "The Facts of Life"! It's so cool to see how Molly Parker would have looked and sounded then!

It's also really fun to think of this as actually being Molly Parker. Tootie babysits for the headmaster's kids, so it wouldn't be unusual for Molly to take turns babysitting his kids, or another teacher or faculty member's kids, while studying for her Eastland classes :read:, researching women's rights :typing:, fighting for the environment :singer:, and composing more folk tunes on her guitar :guitar:. Now with this vintage timely footage, we can actually picture her in stories with her fellow classmates and Mrs. Garrett! :)

America's environment, Molly's father...maybe Molly's next hit single will be all about natural organic raisins!

*(I'm taking liberty with that for effect, haha)

Wow incredible find, Eights! Molly needs to speed up her talking just a little and she would sound just like her character.

Hahaha! But she took good direction here! Must've been all that time minding Mrs. Garrett! ;)

I'm sure when she read the script she was like, "Why do I only mention mothers? Its only the woman's job to feed her kids?!"

Yeah, Molly's raisin commercials have been on YouTube for a while. Although they likely aired as late as 1982, during FOL's season 3/4, according to IMDb, they were taped in 1980 (https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000208/otherworks), around the time Molly was wrapping up her last episode of "Facts". By '82, Molly was already transitioning to film.

Oh good, no wonder she looks similar to TNGPII Molly! I was expecting her to be a little more grown than that since they said it was 1982!

I figured you'd already seen them. Should we also pull up Julie Pie's commercials and TV shows, Felice's films, Julie Anne's TV shows...?

Yeah, just based on looks alone, you can tell it must have been right around TNG part 2.

Yes you should! I haven’t really seen many of them.

I agree she looks the same as she did on TNGII

Actually, knowing now and examining, I think she looks and sounds a little younger than she is in TNGPII!

No*, this is different---people know about those! Nobody ever knew Molly Ringwald hocked raisins in 1980/'82!

*(saying "No" after I saw other girls' well-known [to fans] appearances have already been shared ;) )

The people who have watched the raisin commercials on YouTube, or read some of the articles did.

'80s, how am I supposed to know what you have and haven't seen?

Here is Molly in a print campaign for raisins (https://www.flickr.com/photos/smurfwreck/5161106886/). You can see that for the print campaign, they added glasses. Oddly, her glasses are on incredibly crookedly, and I'm not sure why they would take the photo like that.

Weird glasses for the ad---and also, the little girl in the ad and in the commercial is Emily Schulman (sp), the neighbor girl Harriett from "Small Wonder"!

I agree. I have an extremely high tolerance for cheesiness, but even I called up one of my best friends when I stumbled on that show in syndication and asked, "What the heck is this???"

I certainly don't consider Small Wonder a great sitcom, but any article that refers to Mama's Family as "a pretty awful piece of dreck" is an article that I can't take seriously.

And is in a special niche in sitcom-dom, as it is the lovechild of "sitcom" and "sketch", taking a variety show sketch and molding it into a sitcom format, while retaining some of its sketch style and sensibilities.

The episode where they discover one of their classmates is a missing kid whose picture is on a milk carton, and then they report on it in the school paper, and then they... eat cake... is a doozy.
