"Young Sheldon" Renewed for Two More Seasons at CBS

February 22, 2019

CBS has renewed its soon-to-be No.1 comedy series "Young Sheldon" for two additional seasons, beginning with the 2019-20 broadcast season.

With the pickup, the network has secured both of Chuck Lorre’s current comedy series slated to go beyond this season for 2 more years, after a similar 2-season pickup for veteran "Mom" earlier this month.

"The Big Bang Theory" spin-off is television’s No. 2 most-watched comedy, behind only its lead-in and precursor, "Big Bang", averaging over 14.5 million viewers each week. And with "Big Bang" ending its run in May after 12 seasons, "Young Sheldon" had been tipped to possibly succeed it on the schedule next season.

“Thanks to Chuck Lorre’s and Steve Molaro’s outstanding creative leadership, Young Sheldon has been a powerful performer for the Network with an audience that towers over most of the television landscape,” Kelly Kahl, President, CBS Entertainment, said today in making the renewal announcement.

Added Thom Sherman, Senior EVP of Programming, “The Coopers are portrayed by an amazing cast, and we are looking forward to having the gifted writing staff mine even more of Sheldon’s hilarious backstory and the warm family dynamic that has made this comedy a favorite with audiences for the past two seasons.”

Can Young Sheldon realistically get CBS through the potential dark age that awaits the network after the end of The Big Bang Theory? I think something like Young Sheldon could potentially have a shelf life, and therefore may not have as long a run as TBBT. If you wanted me to make a guess on how long Young Sheldon is going to run before it ends, I would say six seasons.

If the show is not able to get a fifth season, I hope that the show is able to end on a happy note. According to what I have read about Sheldon's history, he was 13 when Mr. Cooper goes forward. Sheldon and Missy will hit 13 before the 4th season ends because they have March birthdays.

God bless you always!!!

HollyIf Young Sheldon lasts that long I would ignore what was said on the parent show and keep the dad alive longer.

How stupid of an idea would this be? Something like this will just ruin the show's creative direction, which is what the creators and producers of Young Sheldon may not want. Can't they just have Young Sheldon continue with the dad having already died?

I like this show and I would enjoy seeing it for a couple more years. Unfortunately this show has a built in expiration date when the title character hits puberty and his precocious antics will no longer be funny, like when Jake grew out of his role on Two and a Half Men. If they wrap it up in the 4th season I will be happy. The characters work well together and they seem like a real family. Missy is too much, she always knows how to put Sheldon in his place! And MeeMaw too. I like how they develop all of the characters and its not always about Sheldon (although it is still mostly about him), more non-Sheldon centric episodes would make it even better.

I hope they have enough clever story lines to last that long.

^^^ One thing that I think helps the show is its time line being thirty years ago.

God bless you always!!!
