Or you can just search for it by name on iTunes. I know not everyone has an iPhone, but I’m not sure if it’s available on other platforms.
'80sSitcoms 02-22-2019, 02:15 PM Oh, I thought maybe it was online or something. I don't have an iPhone.

Hmm... I just checked and it looks like the show is on Google Play and Spotify. I guess you could use those if you’re on an android device? I am not tech savvy so I’m not sure.

Thanks Kadeliah!
This was an interesting interview: I learned a few cool things, including that Nancy's idols included Carol Burnett and Mary Tyler Moore. I also was surprised to hear her credit Charlotte Rae for picking her during an audition; I had never heard that, and instead had always heard that NBC head Brandon Tartikoff had picked her after seeing her on a Hallmark commercial. This was the first I had heard of her having to audition against another girl.
I also loved to hear that it was Kim (or rather, her mug) which convinced Nancy to appear on Dancing With the Stars.

Any lost girls mentioned?

Nary a mention. It was almost as if they were somehow... lost.

What?? This is Nancy McKeon?? All this time I thought this thread was about Nancy "Lost Girl" Nancy! (the title should be changed to "Nancy McKeon on 'You Might Know Her From' " to avoid confusion---or at least state "Nancy McKeon" in the original post?)
Okay, now that I'm getting my bearings realizing which Nancy this really is (and that would have been a big let-down going there expecting to hear Nancy from season 1 and then seeing it's "only" Nancy McKeon [nothing personal against NM, but Lost Girls trump most others around here, and I'm not as interested now I know that's "only" NM and not Nancy Nancy, lol...but I'll gradually get more excited] )....Retro, maybe it's both ways. From what I'm reading here, and what I know of the show's history, it would seem like Brandon Tartikoff first saw NM on the Hallmark commercial, said he wanted her for the show, and then they got her to audition? Maybe that's how it went.

HAHAHA! I thought that at first too, Eights. We are lost girl territory now so I always assume Nancy means our dark haired phone hog.

I thought it a nice interview too. I like that they seemed to have been genuinely interested in her and it wasn’t just the same old stale questions and answers. I mean, of course fans may have heard some it of before but it definitely gave some new insight on her relationship with Charlotte and Kim as well as some other previous costars.
I liked the story about the mug too. I love when those kind of things happen!

Well, if it was an interview, I'd think they'd say "Felice Schachter", not "Nancy".

That's apparently how it did happen, but I never had heard the part about Nancy McKeon having to actually audition, and Charlotte Rae picking her over another girl.
Charlotte has always said she had nothing to do with who was to go or who was to stay, but here we have confirmation that Charlotte did pick the person who replaced the Lost Girls. In one sense, she did pick who was to stay!

Ohhhh ooops! I never even thought of the other Nancy. I guess I’m not very into the lost girls (don’t hate me :)). It totally slipped my mind that the title would cause confusion
RetroGuy2000 02-22-2019, 11:25 PM I thought it a nice interview too.
Yes, the mug story is awesome! I love those behind-the-scenes stories.
I also enjoyed knowing that Charlotte, Kim, and Lisa have been out to Nancy's ranch. Nancy still seems quite overwhelmed about Charlotte's passing. Her voice kept cracking, talking about how much Charlotte meant to her.
'80sSitcoms 02-22-2019, 11:26 PM Well, if it was an interview, I'd think they'd say "Felice Schachter", not "Nancy".
Hey, whose side are you on?? We have proof it's not just me! lol
But this is a fan message board. SO many topics are the characters' names, not the actresses. I mean, I do know what you mean about "real life" interviews, but I wouldn't think twice if I saw threads called "I saw Cindy at the grocery!!" or "Sue Ann talked to me on the 'gram!" or "Molly"---well, Molly's a unique case as both Mollys are the same Molly.  So it's only natural as we've seen, for at least two of us, to see "Nancy on 'You Might Know Her From' " and think Eastland girl Nancy---especially because NM was very well known, but Felice was obviously NOT, so "You Might Know Her From" sounds like it would highlight more obscure people, for the audience to be, like, "Whoa! She was on 'The Facts of Life'?? Cool!"
Charlotte has always said she had nothing to do with who was to go or who was to stay, but here we have confirmation that Charlotte did pick the person who replaced the Lost Girls. In one sense, she did pick who was to stay!
No she's right, she had nothing to do with who went and who stayed as far as the cast from season 1 which is what she was responding to in that documentary, since they're talking there about the Lost Girls being cut. So technically she didn't pick who went and who stayed, but she picked who came. ;)
RetroGuy2000 02-22-2019, 11:26 PM Ohhhh ooops! I never even thought of the other Nancy. I guess I’m not very into the lost girls (don’t hate me :)).

All valid points. And yet, if I see a "Nancy did an interview" thread title, even as a fan of the Lost Girls, I will think "Nancy McKeon", not "Felice Schachter, who played Nancy Olson".
No she's right, she had nothing to do with who went and who stayed as far as the cast from season 1 which is what she was responding to in that documentary, since they're talking there about the Lost Girls being cut. Yes, and that character stayed.
I kid, I kid!
It just struck me as odd: it seemed as though Charlotte was saying she didn't pick people during Summer 1980. But she did pick one person, AND it had to have been over Summer 1980.

True, although I would assume that would be after everyone else's fate had been decided. But maybe not, with Julie Anne and Molly apparently being still on "later in the game". So that would all depend on timing.
Lorimar Television 02-22-2019, 11:35 PM Ohhhh ooops! I never even thought of the other Nancy. I guess I’m not very into the lost girls (don’t hate me :)). It totally slipped my mind that the title would cause confusion

Just kidding. ;)
Lorimar Television 02-22-2019, 11:37 PM Sad how they mention how close the four are but no mention of the lost girls. I know Julie is close with Kim but poor Julie Anne, Felice, and Molly. :(

Yeah, and I think we may never completely understand the timing, as it all seems very muddled... unless we get a Lost Girls Lunch going...
RetroGuy2000 02-22-2019, 11:47 PM Sad how they mention how close the four are but no mention of the lost girls. I know Julie is close with Kim but poor Julie Anne, Felice, and Molly. :(
Felice was close to Mindy, according to Mindy.
BUT I STILL WANT TO KNOW WHO MOLLY AND JULIE ANNE WERE CLOSE TO!
Even after 40 years, we still don't know.

BUT I STILL WANT TO KNOW WHO MOLLY AND JULIE ANNE WERE CLOSE TO!

We have a clue on who Julie was close to. :) As you know, Julie Anne was there with Mindy, Lisa, and Felice at Felice's 18th birthday party. I also bet Julie Anne was a "best all-'round" type whom all the girls liked and that she got well with everyone. :loveya:
RetroGuy2000 02-22-2019, 11:57 PM We have a clue on who Julie was close to. :) As you know, Julie Anne was there with Mindy, Lisa, and Felice at Felice's 18th birthday party.
Yes, but being at a birthday party is not the same as someone saying, "We were like sisters. We went everywhere together. She taught me how to shave my legs, and I was in the passenger seat when she got her driver's license" (what Kim says about Nancy) or "We were like sisters, and her daughter still babysits my daughter, even to this day." (What Kim says about Julie).
I want something like that for Julie Anne, but no-one says that about her, and she doesn't say that about anyone. Same for Molly. With Molly, it's even worse, since she didn't even go to Felice's birthday party.
I also bet Julie Anne was a "best all-'round" type whom all the girls liked and that she got well with everyone. :loveya:
That would be nice... but if so, why hasn't anyone said so, for 40 years?
And Molly...?
'80sSitcoms 02-22-2019, 11:59 PM Hey, I'd love it to! I was just mentioning the only clues we have, lol.
Oh, and I forgot to say---I would expect a "newbie" or a very-rare-poster to the board to use the characters' names instead of the actress's names. I'm not a "Family Matters" viewer, so it'd kind of be like me going to the FM forum and saying "Judy on 'You Might Know Her From' podcast", lol.
Only, now I already totally know her name is Jamie Foxworth thanks to you and Lorsie!
RetroGuy2000 02-23-2019, 12:11 AM Hey, I'd love it to! I was just mentioning the only clues we have, lol.
There is one additional clue, I think: the social media photo of Felice and Julie Anne together. I like that photo a lot.

Impressions 02-23-2019, 02:48 PM Great find! Nancy McKeon has never done anything like this before, so it's certainly refreshing to hear! I like how they brought that Jo was a gay icon and I'm happy to hear Nancy McKeon embraces that. I would've liked to heard more of her perspective on that though! It was pretty cool to hear that she was a fan of all of those MTM shows as well and that they all keep in touch.
'80sSitcoms 02-24-2019, 11:40 PM Alright, that does it, I'm tired of all these little nuggets here and being left out of the loop---I'm listening to this podcast!
'80sSitcoms 02-25-2019, 12:06 AM See?? This is the problem with advancing technology. I Googled it, clicked on the link, it opened it up in iTunes, I clicked on the "2." for the Nancy McKeon installment to play it, but for over 20 minutes now it's been a circle chasing itself around and around and around with a "stop" square symbol in the middle of it, with nary even a progress bar to show how much has been loading or how long it'll be.
Gimme the good ol' days when you just clicked a link on the Internet and it played! :grr:
'80sSitcoms 02-25-2019, 12:11 AM Okay, I stopped and clicked it again, and it worked!
And wow, no wonder they call it "You Might Know Her From"---I don't recognize any of the other 3 names! They might as well have interviewed "Nancy" Felice after all!

Oo, how cool to hear Nancy talk about "Style & Substance"! I remember watching that! And the fact that Nancy says that was one of her favorite characters ever makes me wanna watch it again! '80sSitcoms 02-25-2019, 12:49 AM Oh my gosh...when they talk about Charlotte choosing Nancy McKeon over the "other" actress to win the role of Jo, Nancy actually says "I don't know why she decided to sprinkle her magic dust on me".
And look at the photo I shared in the "Mrs. Garrett LACKS for SLACKS!" thread last year! WHOA!

'80sSitcoms 02-25-2019, 12:50 AM I am, however, very disappointed Nancy has jumped on the "l word" bandwagon. :(
(hint: rhymes with "biterally")
'80sSitcoms 02-25-2019, 12:50 AM (okay, she just said it AGAIN when I submitted that previous post---NOT kidding, lol)
'80sSitcoms 02-25-2019, 12:55 AM Oh, wow! She LOVES Carol Burnett, and she felt ELATED over getting to meet her! (twice!) VERY cool!! I also love Carol Burnett! :loveya: Lorsie, her variety show was so funny!!
AWWWwwwwww...Carol Burnett complimented Nancy on her $12 dress from JCPenney at an awards show when she was a juvenile---that was such a sweet, warm story. Just when I thought I couldn't love Carol Burnett any more.

Lorimar Television 02-25-2019, 01:11 AM But they LOVE those things!
LOL true... ok like Molly and sexism, or Jo and wealth
'80sSitcoms 02-25-2019, 01:13 AM Oh gosh, what a delightful interview!! I totally love Nancy McKeon now! lol...she sounds like she would be so light and easy-breezy fun to have lunch with. :)
And I love how she totally "fan-girls" out on stars that she's always loved---so honest and real! As a big "Mary Tyler Moore Show" fan myself, I love that she loved that show and Mary Richards. popcorn: :so :)
And I appreciate that the hosts are gay. Interviews hosted by gay people offer different angles and views and things, from their not-on-the-beaten-path perspective, to (for many of them) their natural affinity with the arts and synchronization with artistic personalities, processes, and idiosyncrasies. When "Mama's Family" was FINALLY getting a proper DVD release from Time Life/Star Vista a few years ago, one of the interviews Vicki Lawrence did was with a gay man in the entertainment world, Frank Decarro, and it was terrific. Naturally, topics and views arose that you weren't finding popping up in other interviews with her. And it was a call-in show, and a few gay men called in with comments and questions (some very funny!), and it was all so refreshing with this new angled take on a brilliant television show. And Vicki was all laid-back and cool with it all.
I am confused though by the "epilogue". When they talk about Nancy cringing at the mention of Cloris being Charlotte's best friend whom she got to replace her, and they mention that, okay, "it does seem clear that they were not pals," but they went to school---no, they were pals. They roomed together in NY in their youth! Maybe she was cringing more just at the thought of "replacing" Charlotte, or the insinuation that Charlotte willingly chose who to replace her. That was an odd moment in an otherwise wonderful podcast.
Wow, so I've listened to a podcast on iTunes. Am I supposed to do this again??

I didn't know they were gay, it feels like most FOL podcasters are gay though. I think maybe they fell out or something? Are we sure Cloris and Charlotte were actual friends?

Oh gosh, I have to be Blair now:
[puts arm around Lorsie's shoulder in a friendly, older brother way]
"Oh, Lorsie...Lorsie, Lorsie, Lorsie, Lorsie, Lorsie...the first word in the podcast description is 'Queer'. And they said they were gay when they brought up the gay icon part."
Come on Lorsie, you're more "with it" than that---you're no Airhead Sue Ann! ;)
it feels like most FOL podcasters are gay though.
"Most"? Of all what, 4 FOL podcasters? lol (or is it 5? I don't listen to the "naughty" one)
I think maybe they fell out or something? Are we sure Cloris and Charlotte were actual friends?
Yes they were friends! She even mentions it in a documentary! And haven't you read Charlotte's book? And DON'T say you haven't. :nonono:

(I was in a sandwich shop on Saturday, and saw a poster adverting sandwiches, featuring a woman who looks remarkably like Urkel)
:D
Sorry, I don't watch the show, I don't know! Even Retro didn't catch it!
I caught it, but I will not usually correct someone on their spelling. It's frowned upon, here, and unless it affects the clarity if what's being said, there isn't much need. So if, for example, someone says Julie Anne played Sue Ann, that likely needs correction, but if someone says Julie Ann played Cindy, there's no need to comment on the missing E.
RetroGuy2000 02-25-2019, 09:10 PM Great find!
I agree that it was very refreshing to hear soooo many details from Nancy, who so very rarely does interviews where she talks Facts. Loved it. Like you guys, I also like the fact that they brought up the facts that Jo is a gay icon, AND that Nancy has embraced that. Way cool.
RetroGuy2000 02-25-2019, 09:14 PM Okay, I stopped and clicked it again, and it worked!

My interpretation is that Nancy was cringing at the idea of Charlotte being "replaced" by Cloris, especially with Charlotte's death being so recent. Nancy had good things to say about Cloris; I think the confusion was just caused by too many people trying to talk at the same time.

Is there a search feature on who is following who on Twitter? Nancy M. has over 52,000 followers. Hard to sort through that to see who among her former castmates are following her.

RetroGuy2000 04-26-2020, 02:33 PM I listened to it again and I didn’t know there was a strained relationship between Charlotte Rae and Cloris Leachman. Can anyone explain what happened?
I have read about this a few times, but I don't think it's ever been explained, to my knowledge. Whatever it was, it seems to have been short-lived, as they appeared together for interviews and award ceremonies years afterwards.

RetroGuy2000 04-26-2020, 10:45 PM Or they could just be cordial to each other while still having issues. Not saying they were though.
That's possible, but I don't think so. Cloris had an infamous falling-out with Joan Collins (who slept with her husband), and years later, Charlotte Rae called Joan Collins a "bitch". When Beverly Ann does her bit about how horrible her husband Frank was, that's Cloris talking about her husband, George.
'80sSitcoms 04-27-2020, 12:10 AM I listened to it again and I didn’t know there was a strained relationship between Charlotte Rae and Cloris Leachman.
What makes you think there was? Did I miss something?
If you're talking about the end, I just thought they meant Nancy McKeon grimaced when they said Cloris "replaced" Charlotte, as in "How dare they suggest Charlotte could ever be replaced??"

Oh, I'm sorry cfr, I forgot!
Well, basically, she says she grew up with MTM, and Bob Newhart's show, and something else, and she reflects back on how funny it is that as a kid she was into these adult shows, and she loved them. She said she's worked with Cloris and Valerie and she's met about everyone but Mary, and she's kind of glad she didn't meet Mary because she thinks she wouldn't be able to say anything.
And she said when the McKeons went to their first awards show in Hollywood in the '70s when Philip was on "Alice" her mom bought her a $12 dress from JC Penny's that was green with a fern print on it that looks like wallpaper you'd see today, but she loved it and thought it was the best dress ever. And after the awards when the McKeons were waiting at the curb for their car, she said she felt a tap on her shoulder, and she turned around, and it was
CAROL.
BURNETT.
And Carol said to her, "I just wanted to tell you that you look so beautiful, and I just love your dress."
And then Nancy says to the podcast hosts with all humility, "A $12 dress." She couldn't believe that CAROL BURNETT noticed her and would pay her such a sweet compliment.
And then she said she met Carol again years later when she (Nancy) was doing some sort of a stage show, and Carol met with her backstage and they talked awhile, and Nancy got to remind her of that and tell her how much it meant to her.

If you're talking about the end, I just thought they meant Nancy McKeon grimaced when they said Cloris "replaced" Charlotte, as in "How dare they suggest Charlotte could ever be replaced??"
Yes, I was talking about the end. It ended kind of abruptly and oddly. Some friend of Nancy’s entered the studio, after a ding on Nancy’s phone. The host didn’t reveal who it was and said this person would be on a future episode (does anyone know who it could’ve been)? Then talked about a cut out “scene” in the interview when the hosts asked about Cloris coming in to replace Charlotte. Then Nancy cocked her head with one eye opened and they said this question made her uncomfortable based on her body language and they changed the subject. It was just weird. The hosts suggested that there was a falling out and they weren’t close. It wasn’t apparent who they were talking about until they started to talk about how they went to school together with Paul Lynde. So I assumed they were talking about Cloris and Charlotte. But they didn’t really go deeper into the falling out after that. So it made me confused.
'80sSitcoms 04-27-2020, 12:31 AM Yeah, I don't think we can take all end post-interview part for "fact".
RetroGuy2000 04-27-2020, 12:38 AM But Beverly Ann's husband was "Frank".

:bighug:
Thanks for relaying all that. What a nice story about Nancy M's dress! Now I want to search for that awards show on you tube to see if there's a clip so I can see what it looked like.
As I watch season 8 now, I do look at Nancy M and Cloris in the scenes together and wonder to myself how Nancy must feel working along one of her childhood idols. She must have loved it when Cloris joined the show.
It's just sad she never got to meet Mary. But in a way that can also be good because there's no chance of being disillusioned if Mary was unkind or negative towards her. (which of course is highly unlikely with MTM who was always gracious with her fans.) :)
Lorimar Television 04-27-2020, 01:19 AM That's possible, but I don't think so. Cloris had an infamous falling-out with Joan Collins (who slept with her husband), and years later, Charlotte Rae called Joan Collins a "bitch". When Beverly Ann does her bit about how horrible her husband Frank was, that's Cloris talking about her husband, George.
