If you take the visuals from two 1970s television series and one reading 1970s readiness program, you indeed get the key to "the facts of life" just as its theme song tells us:

Kinda like one of those, "Play Pink Floyd's Dark of the Moon while watching 'The Wizard of Oz' " kinda things, no?

What shows are those, on the center and on the right?

The center is Mr. R himself from The Letter People*, and the right is a show actually called "All About You"! It starred Louise McNamara in the 1970s, a very nice lady who told you all about your body and how it works. :) (well, told kids, anyway, lol...I remember watching it in kindergarten, and at home. It was a calm blue room with nice green plants)

*in Letter People Land, Mr. R's sound is the same sound that starts "Ripping Rubber Bands", as evidenced by his "photograph", lol.

The theme song (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nboBFpMYxZs) sounds very familiar, but I can't remember the show itself. Looks somewhat similar to Romper Room, with the calming, quiet set.

Yup, I always loved that theme song. Another old school PBS gem of a show. :) Oh, and if you haven't, I suggest going to about 14:08 and watching the closing credits with the ending theme. We'll still be here!

I have no memory of the original show, but Wikipedia says (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoom_(1972_TV_series)) it originally featured a cast of seven kids; among them was a character named Nancy, who was discontinued after the second season!

Well they were all real kids and the cast changed every season. The most kids were on the original show was two seasons. The 90's version had one who was on for four seasons though.

Good question. I'm sure there are way more Nancys on TV than there used to be.

At the time that FOL originally aired, there were only a few TV networks: NBC, CBS, ABC, and PBS were the main networks. Fox started in 1986. Cable TV was operational, but many of those channels mostly just aired repeats of the networks' series, at that time. So there were fewer characters of all names than there is now.

I remember a time when Nancy Olson and Nancy Oleson were both on NBC.

The one Nancy I can think of now is Nancy Grace, who I do not like.

But Nancy is getting less common of a name, now its mostly woman over 40.

I only knew one girl in my age bracket named Nancy. Even back then Nancy was considered an old fashion name (with Nancy M. being the exception).

Let's not forget the most famous Nancy of them all. Character actress Nancy Walker.

I worked with gossiping old bat named Nancy for years and HATED her with the heat of a thousand suns so the name Nancy gives me a very negative physical reaction.

Speaking of old 70's children shows, does anybody here remember The Magic Garden? It was a kid show where two women interacted with a puppet named Sherlock and and pulled jokes out of a laughing chuckle patch, and pulled out a bunch of stuff from a giant story box.

They sat on swings and sang with a guitar. It was all pretty groovy with a hell of a catchy theme song!

Lots of 70s children TV shows had drug references in them. Especially the Sid and Marty Croft shows like Land of the Lost.

Oh i'm sure the one in the link did. Those 2 singing gals were definitely toking before and after the show. You could just tell.

I LOVED Land of the Lost! As a kid I never noticed any drug references, but i'm sure if I watched it now i'd be shocked at what went over my head as a child.

You can find full episodes on Youtube. Even the music is quite psychedelic.

Did you ever have "The Letter People" in school or see them on PBS, or see "All About You"?

Those Croft shows were definitely trippy! I'd nearly completely forgotten HR Pufinstuf, Jimmy and his magic flute. Then Nick at Nite had a marathon of episodes, and aired commercials with the flute saying, "Remember me? I was the flute...?" Which instantly brought back a flood of hazy memories.

Like CFR, I LOVED Land of the Lost. So scary to the four-year-old me! When those Sleestack would start their hissing, I HAD to be sitting on the couch, a safe distance away from their slimy claws.

I caught episodes years later, and, while there was still nostalgia value, the show hadn't dated well. I still, however, found the pilot episode both charming and somewhat sophisticated.

The ending theme (during the first two seasons) was also quite a trip!

I saw that mentioned earlier in the thread. Never heard of "All About You" (It sounds like a menstruation video for preteen girls lol)

The shows I got on PBS in the 70's were "Sesame Street", "The Electric Company" and "Romper Room". :)

Well hey, 1970s SS and EC would be good enough for me! :)

(I think the Letter People reading program for kindergartners was created in '74 or '75, so wondered if you had them as a learning program in school---but their delightfully low-budget puppet show aired on PBS all up through the '80s).

Oh so it iS a kiddie show about their bodies LOL! I just found the Wiki page for it and that's what it says. "The show was geared towards youngsters aged 6–8 as a way to educate them on their bodies, especially where they came from, why they have what they have, what makes them work and why they work."

"Why they have what they have" LOL...OMG I think would remember a show like that. It seems it aired in the Virginia and Boston areas of the country.

I had safe shows like Mr. Rogers Neighborhood. There was also "The New Zoo Revue" with a giant dancing Owl and Hippo. I think they were lovers too. The 1970's was definitely weird for kid shows.

Oh not at all, it was all over a lot of the US. Like "The Letter People", it was taped in Missouri by college students doing the low budget show, but it aired all over the country.

Yes! I remember Romper Room. Now it's SO long ago in my memory that I couldn't tell you if it was Miss Molly or not. I know they had different ones at different times.

I was 9 in 1979, so most likely still watched it. It's all hazy to me....was this the one with the Magic Mirror? Or was that the Magic Garden? I remember a Magic Mirror somewhere in those kiddie shows.

Miss Molly had the Magic Mirror for sure! I was one in 1979, but I vividly remember watching Romper Room until I went kindergarten in 1983.
