I am glad he has the home life he has. Serves him right.

At least he was in only one episode. I agree.

I could've done without Jackie Waters, too.

I loved Chopper a.k.a. Barry Gordon. I don’t think any child should be subjected to a turbulent homelife with a mother who cries after talking with her X. The only person we can’t stand should be Mr. Cooper!

I agree! I don't see why there is all this Chopper hate ? But Chopper ended up doing well ,;) he grew up to be Archie Bunker's lawyer, Gary Rabinowitz !! :D

Didn't Ward make the comment that Chopper talks too much? He does. But if I had to choose between an episode with him and one with Jackie Waters, I'd take Chopper's appearance.

I gotta admit I really felt sorry for Chopper after Ward took the phone call from his mother. I felt sorry for Beaver, too, as the reality hit him.

Like him or dislike him, it's one of the best and most memorable episodes of the series.

Barry Gordon appeared on other sitcoms of the era. I remember seeing him on a Jack Benny episode.

All this Chopper hate gives me the weepies.

Love the episode, and Barry's performance as Chopper

Barry was also funny as a frustrated teen in the ghost-comedy The Spirit Is Willing.

If these were real children I would agree, but since they are only characters, I am going to continue and say how much I cannot stand Cindy Brady or Elizabeth Walton. Both of them wear their dresses way too short

So does Dawn Lyn in My Three Sons.

On the other hand I have no problem with the way Marcia Brady dresses.

So this went from an episode about a child of divorce, to girls' dresses being too short. I can't keep up.

What do you think that means, Beaver?

I also liked the scene where Wally consoled Beaver, and put his arm around him. Good brother!

Back to Chopper I like when June called Uncle Dave, Uncle Dave. Did she call him initially Mr. Chopper? Or Mr. Cooper?

Love how mature he appeared to Ward and June “No... I don’t have any real brothers but I do have 3 half brothers and one half sister and I used to have 2 step brothers before Pop’s second divorce. He certainly was smarter and well adjusted compared to Beaver.

I see what you mean about being just a character created by a writer but Barry did a great job portraying a child from a broken home. I can’t stand Cindy Brady, Elizabeth Walton or Dodi Douglas.

She called him Mr. Cooper, I think. After he had corrected her, she then said, Mr., uh, Uncle Dave.

You have a point about Chopper being less naive than Beaver. Gilbert would call him a man of the world. There's no way Chopper would get into the messes Beaver gets into.

Today watching Chopper I had to sort of agree with Tankeryanker. Barry is a really good actor but there was something about Chopper that was disturbing. Bragging about all the stuff he gets from Pop, his step mothers, his mother and Uncle Dave. He sees things that other kids don’t see like how Beaver’s parents are intimate and like each other. He knows right away he envies Beaver but can’t really talk about it yet. You know he’s a very lonely kid but Beaver can’t understand especially with all those presents. He really was a very mature kid whom June regretted inviting thinking he’s a bad influence. Beaver I guess is typical but very immature.

I also think by this time Beaver is a little too old to be so taken by presents that he wants his parents to separate.

Exactly. Wanting to get presents not seeing all the misery it would cause. He has to be hit over the head to get it.

For a troubled kid he was pretty troubled.

Having the Cleavers hear his mother on the phone with the weepies and having to leave really hit home for Chopper. He had talked about his life being pretty neat with all the presents and relatives and parties when it was really just an act. He just wanted a normal family and that wasn’t happening. Wonder if Uncle Dave became his new daddy.

One thing didn’t make sense. Chopper said his father was at his house with his new wife. How could she be new when he had 3 half brothers and a half sister. All his father’s children. Poor Chopper got lost in the shuffle.

Third or fourth wife?

Chopper played the happy kid with Beaver, but it was a front, and made him too talkative and kind of annoying. Then the mother called and reality hit him, and his front melted away.

Sad.

You just brought up a great point. This could have been his fourth wife. OMG

Pop had Chopper’s mom, Mrs. Weepy, 2nd wife, Mrs. In-Between, the third wife with 3 half brothers and one half sister, Mrs. Wage Garnishment and his newest wife, Mrs. RU Nutz, maybe just married. Boy Pop was busy and all that alimony. Good thing he was in sporting goods and may have been a major leaguer, Mr. Stud Cooper.

Give the kid credit for keeping up with all that family. Mrs. in-betweens (yes, when I said 3rd or 4th it'd have to be at least 4th), half-brothers, cousins once removed or more, it's all too confusing.

Right even his pop would ask him about his former step son and called him What’s his name. You’re right as Chopper says his pop’s at home with his new wife #4.

Evidently dress length is enough of a reason to hate a character.
