Goldberg told former Doctor Who star David Tennant that she once pitched the BBC on a New York-based Doctor. “I wanted to be the first female Doctor … the American version of Doctor Who ends up in New York and it’s me," she told Tennant. “The idea of that so made me happy. But they were like ‘Um no.’ I was like, ‘OK, I’m cool. I *understand.’”

I can see a game emerging from this: the most incongruous personage associated with a named television programme.
For example, why not cast Danny DeVito as Jock Ewing in a Dallas remake.
Whoopi Goldberg still dreams of a Doctor Who role (https://deadline.com/2021/08/whoopi-goldberg-doctor-who-dream-job-edinburgh-tv-festival-session-1234821018/)
“I wanted to be Doctor Who and I still do,” Goldberg said during a conversation at the Edinburgh TV Festival. “I think it would mean an evolution into being American and I don’t know that that’s correct for Doctor Who. I don’t know I can usurp that. As much as I love it, I love watching it still in all the iterations. There are certain things that are blatantly all English. Doctor Who is like that to me. It’s like Marmite. It’s very English and needs to stay that way.” ALSO: Goldberg slams cancel culture (https://variety.com/2021/tv/global/whoopi-goldberg-cancel-culture-edinburgh-tv-festival-doctor-who-1235047820/).
