View Full Version : How about a channel that shows nothing but commercials?

That’s the question.

I bet people would actually watch it. A 24 hour station that shows nothing but commercials. If nothing else, probably people would watch it not knowing there isn’t a program coming on for a long time or somehow get hooked into watching it somehow.

Not Home Shopping Network or “Infomercials”. Just regular commercials all the time. Since the channels are now basically commercials anyway with shows wedged in, why not just do away with the shows altogether?

This would work. You would be surprised.

With commercials, of course.

“We’ll be back with more commercials, right after this brief commercial break“

I can seriously see that happening.

I wouldn't watch it since I despise commercials.

However, I'm sure someone would watch a channel like that considering most modern day Americans are easily entertained.

It'd probably be loaded with ads for attorneys (with the latest thing to sue about, like using talcum powder), junk apps, diets, home and car warranties, pillows, medicare advantage, loan companies for people who didn't pay their taxes or credit card bills, flashlights you can run over with a tank (and get another one "free" by just paying an additional charge), and humane socities and kid hospitals wanting your credit card number to charge it $19 a month. Basically Antenna TV without the sitcom snippets.

Actually, these channels already exist. I have several of them on DIRECTV. All full of infomercials.

I've got like 7 of those channels on Spectrum. It's called Zeal on there and all they do is infomercials.

They mainly show stuff for Time Life like the Carol Burnett set.

Yeah Comcast has those too. What a waste. Like someone said I guess people watch them or they wouldn't be there.

Nothing But Commercials.. They can call it NBC.Since the majority of Americas so called TV channels are pretty close to that already it would not be that much of a stretch.

I don't know if an all commercials channel would work on TV. They're annoying enough when playing during shows. In fact, they seem to be getting more and more annoying as if the people creating them actually WANT to irritate the viewers.

But for classic commercials, there's You Tube where I love going to watch old 70's commercials from when I was a kid and also for classic ads from before my time (50's & 60's).
I'd like a TV channel playing all of those old 20th century commercials, but with You Tube having so many of them for instant viewing, there's really no point there. So it would have to be an all new commercial channel which I definitely, positively would never watch because I despise all modern commercials with the fire of a thousand suns.

The title of this thread is a sad indictment of the state of Western television in the modern era.

It is me the OP. This is sort of a joke thread although I would not doubt that this idea has not crossed anyone’s mind.

I am home from abroad again and television to me is nearly unwatchable simply because it is mostly commercials and there are about ten commercials in one commercial break. There are more commercials than TV show now. Count the number of commercials during a break.

What is incredible is that now people pay for TV when it used to be free. To be fed more commercials. But I were in power of the TV, Inwould do an all commercial channel and callnit the “American Consumer Network”. People will flip through the channels and stop because there will be something that they like and just mindlessly watch twenty more commercials until they realize that there is no TV show coming on. Sort of a “bait” tactic. “The American Consumer Network will be back after a word from our sponsors”.

I mean, the ridiculous “Home Shopping Network” has been a thing for years. Would this be much different?

I agree it certainly is.

I'd watch it, at least they would be honest about what their real motivation is.

There are a number of digital sub-channels that show only infomercials 24/7 (yes, I know the OP stated this didn't count), the main one is the "Shop" channel that Ion stations carry. It's good for a laugh every now and then, though I always wonder how many people actually buy the stuff that's advertised?

As someone already said, it already exists. It's super prevalent on DirecTV, pretty much every other channel is an infomercial channel and it's annoying af, but hey, they gotta pay the bills, right?
