View Full Version : Worst Episode?
julian bozo 01-21-2019, 08:59 AM What was the worst episode of The Facts of Life?
In your opinion if they were to drop one episode that would never be shown again which episode would you choose?
'80sSitcoms 01-21-2019, 10:01 AM Well, from the first 6 seasons or so, "Best Sister".

Probably one of the later-season spin-off attempts, which were horrific. I vaguely remember one with David Spade. It was so bad I've blocked it from my memory.

"Big Apple Blues"
Directed by: John Bowab
Written by: Martha Williamson
Air Date: March 19, 1988
Natalie moves to an apartment in SoHo, where she meets some eccentric characters. David Spade and Richard Grieco guest star.
You're welcome.

Is that the eve plumb Ep?
RetroGuy2000 01-21-2019, 08:32 PM Is that the eve plumb Ep?
Yes. I don't mind it, but '80s hates it.
'80sSitcoms 01-21-2019, 08:47 PM Yes. I don't mind it, but '80s hates it.
Lol, well, even I think that's a strong word. I don't hate it (and I guess I'm eating my own words if I did say that, but I don't remember saying that exactly), I just really do not care for it. I think that I will mostly skip it when I binge-watch, but will probably watch it in a binge now and then just because it is an episode from the classic era. But it just feels so "wrong".
Retro, while I didn't think you felt as strongly as I did, I thought was kind of "down there" for you on your list?
Lorimar Television 01-21-2019, 09:56 PM Cuz of Jo? Eve Plumb was always my fav on TBB growing up. I tend to go for the less obvious girls like Blair and Marcia and more towards the Sue Ann and Jan’s
'80sSitcoms 01-21-2019, 10:35 PM Cuz of Jo?
That's part of it, and then she's not even apologetic enough afterward. So the violence/apology ratio is way off. It's also hard to buy that she suddenly wants to become a nun and follow God, when she was never shown to have any feelings of religion before this. And even though it's not that uncommon in sitcoms, it bothers me that, oh, all of a sudden, Blair has a stepsister. At least with Tootie we knew she had a brother beforehand (2, in fact), but it was never implied before or since that Blair had any kind of siblings.

Makes sense, but Blair has so many step parents, atleast one is bound to have a kid

A good chance, yes, but it should have at least been mentioned. ;)
Also, for the later seasons, one episode that really bothers me is the dream episode where they're all old women. That would be good for a fantasy sequence in an episode, like Blair's dream into the "future" of the year 2000 (haha), but a whole episode wasted on a whim is just too much.

I haven’t seen it yet, is it like a pre Golden girls Ep?

No, you didn't say it; I was putting words in your mouth. Sorry. I guess what I should have said is "'80s really doesn't care for it".
Retro, while I didn't think you felt as strongly as I did, I thought was kind of "down there" for you on your list?
You are correct: it's about 67% of the way down my list, for the reasons we've discussed: it doesn't make sense given its continuity (or lack thereof) with other episodes. Jo never feels nun-like in any other episode, and I don't think we ever hear of Meg in another episode.
But if there were better continuity, the episode itself is redeemable. It's not bad like the many fantasy-themed episodes during the last three seasons, where the girls become pop stars, or have a dream, or there's a murder at the house, or someone else has a dream, or a kooky Australian visits, or a celebrity guest drops by, or a celebrity guest has a dream, or there's a lame spin-off attempt, or a lame spin-off has a dream, or...
And, as I mentioned the last time we discussed "Best Sister", it's kinda cool seeing Eve Plum finally play the oldest sister, instead of the middle child!

Oh no, "The Golden Girls" had been on TV for a season or two by that point. Maybe even three.

No, just a daydream episode of what would it be like if the girls were old, Andy were grown up, and Beverly Ann were ancient (like "Morla the Ancient One", the huge turtle in "The Neverending Story", haha).

It would actually be worth watching than a lot of crap on TV nowadays. Also, The Twilight Zone is coming back. It's gonna be on CBS's streaming site though. I forgot who's hosting it, but episodes are being made.
I think the worst episode of all time for this show is "The Interview Show". I don't even know what the point of it was. That's one episode I wouldn't mind being left out of rotation in reruns.

I don't understand the hate TIS has gotten around here. It's an intimate look at our girls and what Eastland has meant to them. It lets us see how much they've grown since they first arrived. It's unique and retrospective and nostalgic inside a now-nostalgic show, and I enjoy it. popcorn: :so
Lorimar Television 01-22-2019, 06:19 PM I remember watching a bit of TIS on Nick @ Nite and being confused why they were wasting a whole ep on that, but maybe I'll appreciate it more when I watch it in its proper order.

Yeah, it's the one time in the series the girls tell "us", "face-to-face", about how they've grown at Eastland (just keep in mind, it was filmed for season 5, not season 6).
After all, they're just doing what the theme song told them to do!
There's a time they gotta go and show, they grow, and now they know about The Facts of Life, The Facts of Life! :singer:

I did too---and it was so nice, after 5 years (counting "Diff'rent Strokes"), to see Mrs. Garrett succeed with her own business, an independent woman later in life making it on her own!

It truly was a beautiful shop. Very homey. Not as good as Eastland, but still a great place to hang out. I can definitely imagine picking up a quiche there, or getting some coffee and a pastry.
...Although I'll steer clear of the catered Chinese food and the pizza!

At the time the episode was taped, personal VHF video cameras were state-of-the-art. It was a new, hip thing in that era. The episode was avant-garde and forward-thinking for the time, and like many state of the art things, hasn't aged well.
This was still five years before the premiere of America's Funniest Home Videos.

Schmoopie 07-15-2019, 03:40 AM This is a hard question for me b/c honestly there were so many bad ones. I didn't like any of the ones that centered around Natalie and Tootie and that one where she lost that necklace from Jeff's grandmother and it ended up in the blender was horrible. I mean who would do something so stupid? She just tossed that hideous looking necklace in the drawer in the living room. Wouldn't you think that if she wanted to take care of it and knew that his grandmother would want her to wear it she would have put it someplace safe? That is one that comes to mind first but I didn't care for the one where Blair was in the car accident and was going on and on about her scar. It must have disappeared on its own b/c in every episode after that, Blair looked "Perfect". So much for continuity.

Yes, many fans have shared those same sentiments.
Perhaps "worst" in my opinion may be "Jazzbeau", since I don't find it interesting AT. ALL. I skip that one when I watch.
