Amy Sherman-Palladino is turning 53. She studied dance as a girl (like Susanna Hoffs), but decided to pursue a career in writing and producing for television instead. At the start of the 1990s, she became a staff writer on Roseanne, and received her first Emmy nomination for a season 4 episode (credited as Amy Sherman, as she had not yet married producer Daniel Palladino).

Sherman-Palladino wrote for 1990s series like Veronica’s Closet, and created the short-lived Fox sitcom Love and Marriage. Her first big success came in 2000, as the creator of a WB comedy-drama about a single mother and her teenage daughter.

Sherman-Palladino was the showrunner and executive producer of Gilmore Girls for all but its sevenths season. She went on to create ABC Family’s Bunheads, starring Sutton Foster. Most recently, she seemed to be camped out on the stage at last year’s Emmys. As the creator of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, she won Emmys as a producer, writer, director and for music supervision.

In an interesting overlap between the careers of our two headliners, a season 1 episode of Gilmore Girls, several characters attend a Bangles concert; Hoffs and the other members of the band made uncredited cameos as themselves. Lorelai Gilmore was also regularly portrayed as a Bangles fan during the series.
