We just spoke with Mads Mikkelsen about his ultra-violent Netflix movie Polar that’s coming January 25, and of course, we couldn’t help but also talk about the hopes for a fourth season of "Hannibal".
Bryan Fuller has long said that the revival of the series is a possibility, and Mikkelsen too is still optimistic that "Hannibal" will be back someday.
“I haven’t heard anything specific. I know Bryan is still working on some ideas where we can find a new home for this. I also have a strong feeling that everybody who was involved in it would gladly pick up the glove again if that happens.”
It’s been three and a half years since "Hannibal" went off the air on NBC, and early hopes for a streaming pickup never materialized. Mikkelsen isn’t aware of the details, but he hears that talks are still ongoing.
“I don’t know where they looked,” Mikkelsen said. “That is above my paycheck, but I know they’ve been talking to different studios.”
The NBC run took "Hannibal" through the Red Dragon storyline, and Mikkelsen notes that if the series comes back, it’ll likely delve into the story we’ve all been waiting for.
“I know that [Fuller] was working to get the rights to Silence of the Lambs so he could get in there and use some of those characters for his own universe,” Mikkelsen said. “I have a hunch that might be where we’re going.”
