"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" Revival Set at HGTV

"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" is making a return. Discovery-owned HGTV is set to produce 10 new episodes of the former ABC series for premiere in early 2020.

HGTV also secured the rights to air 100 existing episodes of the original series that ran on ABC for nine seasons from 2003-2012. At its peak during the 2004/05 season, "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" averaged nearly 16 million viewers on Sunday nights.




“This is a big win for HGTV and we can’t wait to put our stamp on it,” said Kathleen Finch, chief lifestyle brands officer, Discovery Inc., the parent company of HGTV.

“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition was must-see viewing for years because it combined moving stories of families and communities with life-changing home renovations. It’s the type of program that taps into every emotion and it’s the reason it was so popular with everyone in America.”




The cast has not yet been revealed for the new episodes, but will feature HGTV’s own home experts in the weekly race to complete a custom, whole home renovation for a deserving family, according to the network.

"Modern Family" star Jesse Tyler Ferguson will host HGTV’s 10-episode "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" revival, to premiere in 2020.

Like the original ABC series, the renovation show will rally community support to give local heroes a brand-new home in just seven days.



The network’s update will “make some variations to creative aspects of the show, but it will always deliver the great storytelling that made it one of the most iconic and successful properties in television,” HGTV president Jane Latman promises.

"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" Reboot Gets HGTV Premiere Date

The Jesse Tyler Ferguson-hosted reboot of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" will premiere February 16 at 9 PM on HGTV.

Celebrity special guests will include Anthony Anderson, Derek Hough, Ty Pennington, LeAnn Rimes, OWN’s Laila Ali, Food Network’s Tyler Florence and HGTV stars David Bromstad, Tamara Day, Tarek El Moussa and Jasmine Roth.

In each episode, Ferguson, neighbors, local building experts and celebrity guests work alongside the show’s regularly appearing designers Breegan Jane, Carrie Locklyn and Darren Keefe to create customized homes that accommodate the needs of each inspiring family.
