Oh wow! I discovered something last night! Something I never noticed before!! which is the meaning of having "discovered" something, haha, but I'm just so excited to share with you guys! :D

You know that legendary (to us) clip in the cafeteria intro theme where Mrs. Garrett is introducing the 4 probationary girls to Howard as his new dishwashers, onion slicers, potato peelers, garbage haulers, etc.?

IT'S NOT IN AN EPISODE.

I mean, of course it's from "The New Girl Part 2", but it's not the actual clip from the episode! It was a taped take that didn't make it to the air show!

I don't know what put me on the wavelength to notice it, but check it out: In the opening theme clip, which is the first pic, Natalie has a clearly unamused look on her face. BUT, in the actual episode, she is ambiguous and just going with the flow! It's hard to tell many other differences between the movement/expressions between the two clips, but if you compare the clips yourself, you'll see Natalie being the clear giveaway that it's obviously two different takes.

Fascinating!*

Nice catch, 80s! I definitely agree with you: the intro clip doesn't match the aired episode.

Studio audience sitcoms are typically taped twice, back-to-back. This gives the editors two sets of shot to work with: if a scene isn't working, they can use a different shot. Clearly, this came from the "other" tape.

Yup, it's a given. Just hard to notice! lol

Something we both obviously know, loving our '80s sitcoms so much (hey, there's my name! ) But it's also not just sitcoms: "The Carol Burnett Show" taped the same way. Tim Conway is famous for "behaving" during the "dress rehearsal show", but then throwing everything out the window for the "air" show to release his hi-jinks! lol

He was hilarious! And the rest of the cast's reactions to him were hilarious! They just couldn't stop from laughing, and it's easy to see why. His old man bits are perhaps my favorite parts of that show, BTW.

Although... Went with the Wind is my favorite skit. That dress!

Although, as Carol points out to Vicki and Lyle in "The Carol Burnett Show: A Reunion" (1993, CBS), "But you two held out." Lyle was pretty good but not completely invulnerable, but Vicki was really great about not breaking up---because, as the :baby: on the show, she says she felt it wasn't her place, which I can totally understand, with all those pros! lol

My favorites are definitely "The Family". They're the precursor to my favorite television comedy of all time, "Mama's Family" (that's right, "Facts" isn't even my favorite show! )

Watch any of her interviews about the show, and she will tell you! She just felt so out of place and "unworthy" of "playing around" like that (you have to remember she wasn't even trying to get into show business, so she really felt like a fish out of water on that show!)

:crying:

Oh no, I didn't mean to make you sad! lol...I was just pointing out in a way that it's funny I spend so much time at this board, when it's not even my favorite show. It's ONE OF my favorite shows, for sure! Definitely one of my top '80s sitcoms!

Now, that is very interesting. Never would have suspected that. They all seemed like pros.

Wow nice find! I think the s6 intro of the girls all holding their thumbs up for Blair but Jo struggling to lift her thumb might have been a different take as well.

Oh my, Retro...you need to watch some TCBS reunions or Vicki interviews! (and TCBS cast interviews on the DVD sets!)

Yeah, and I don't mean to make it sound like Vicki felt like a fish out of water all 11 years, LOL, it was just her first handful of years while they were "molding" her and she was finding her comedic and acting legs. And boy, did they create a monster with her! In the best way possible!

Oh, I've seen a few on YouTube, just didn't remember seeing a part where Vicki Lawrence said she felt like she couldn't laugh because she was a n00b.

Oh, you should watch her Emmy TV Legends interview, and check out some TCBS bonus feature interviews, including the round tables, and that spectacular TCBS reunion from '93 (it's the first of several reunions, and the absolute best)

Oh! Well, then, what is your ranking?

What is my ranking? How can you possibly rank your "children" in order of favorites? lol... :grouphug: ...a most favorite and a least favorite, perhaps, but taking several series that I LOVE and ranking them?

Heck, after you and Lorsie did it, I couldn't even rank FOL season 1 in an order! (although it's easy to pick my top favorites, sure, and probably least favorite/s)

[and I just created a new thread, inspired by your question]

Ahh, you're one of those---and I don't mean that the way it sounds! It's just that there are fans who prefer the NBC years (1 and 2), and fans who prefer the syndicated years (Bubba and Iola), and fans who love all the years---I'm that last one. :D Now, sometimes I'm in the mood for some NBC Mama, or some syndicated Mama, because they do have different "feels", but I love 'em both. :) (kinda like dorm/cafeteria of FOL!)

Haha its just that I like Aunt Fran, and seeing Eunice and Ellen from time to time. And you know how I feel about disappearing characters with Buzz and Sonja. I did enjoy the syndicated seasons though.
