Schooled - Wednesdays at 8:30PM ET/PT on ABC

This spinoff of the hit series The Goldbergs is set in 1990-something and follow the hilarious teachers of William Penn Academy - led by Tim Meadows (Principal Glascott), Bryan Callen (Coach Mellor) and AJ Michalka (Lainey Lewis) - who, despite their eccentricities and crazy personal lives, are heroes to their students.

Schooled is mediocre, but it could've been better off it didn't "whitewash" its initial premise (https://www.indiewire.com/2019/01/schooled-review-goldbergs-spinoff-whitewash-abc-1202033455/)

The Goldbergs' 1990s-set spinoff (http://forums.previously.tv/topic/89472-schooled/?tab=comments#comment-4972176) was originally supposed to focus on Tim Meadows' character. Instead, it was rewritten (https://www.reddit.com/r/television/comments/aedh0x/schooled_series_premiere_discussion/) to put AJ Michalka front and center. "ABC should have trusted the series’ creators more," says Hanh Nguyen. "What could’ve been an insightful and interesting comedy about a funny and caring black man in a position of authority instead becomes another vehicle for a white privileged person to bemoan their rather ordinary fate, and yet eventually become a white savior for the school." ALSO: Schooled doesn't delve into 1990s nostalgia like The Goldbergs did with the 1980s (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/review/schooled-review-1174638).

The pilot did really grab me, but I'll give it a few more episodes to pickup.
