"The Good Doctor" executive producer Daniel Dae Kim is stepping in front of the camera on the popular ABC medical drama.

The former "Hawaii Five-O" co-star is set for a key recurring role as Dr. Jackson Han, a brash new Chief of Surgery at St. Bonaventure. Dr. Han’s arrival will shake things up at St. Bonaventure and specifically put Dr. Shaun Murphy’s (Freddie Highmore) career in jeopardy.

Kim will make his debut in Episode 15 and has been booked to appear in the last four episodes of the 18-episode second season, one of them directed by Freddie Highmore.

There is no word whether Dr. Han would stick around beyond that but that is considered a possibility.

“As a fan of our show, I’m thrilled to be doing a guest arc with such a talented, kind and hard-working cast. David [Shore] and I have been looking for the right opportunity and we’ve found a character that’s both dynamic and surprising,” said Kim.

“It’s an added bonus for my character to be directed by our own Freddie Highmore, who’s proving to be as talented behind the camera as in front of it. it’s been a lot of fun already and I’m excited for the episodes to air.”

Daniel Dae Kim had some worries when he began acting on The Good Doctor after a two-year TV acting hiatus (https://ew.com/tv/2019/02/18/the-good-doctor-daniel-dae-kim-freddie-highmore/)

Kim, whose last TV role was on Hawaii Five-0 in 2017, makes his debut tonight as a doctor on the ABC medical drama that he executive produces. "I felt a little bit more butterflies in my stomach than I expected," he says.
