She is! I wonder if being on every season of FOL as a regular would’ve impacted her any differently? I would think not but you never know. RetroGuy2000 01-10-2019, 09:57 PM She is! I wonder if being on every season of FOL as a regular would’ve impacted her any differently? I would think not but you never know. I also would think not, but you never know, as you say. It may have even been a blessing in disguise. On that same Metromedia Square studio lot, around that same time, the kids of Diff'rent Strokes completely lost it, with Gary screaming for hamburgers, Dana and Todd snorting enough cocaine to kill an elephant, Gary's parents forcing him to work while he was sick, Dana's mother stealing her money, Todd getting arrested, Dana getting pregnant, Dana robbing a 7-11, Gary not getting along with Dixie Carter, Dana doing Playboy, etc, etc. If Julie Pie had been in that environment, who knows what would have happened? Kirk Cameron is a religious nut, but at least his religion kept him from the devastating ends the DS kids had. He appeared in one episode of GP with Dana, and I suspect when he talks about watching child stars around him going wild and having their lives spiral out of control, he is specifically thinking of Dana. Lorimar Television 01-10-2019, 11:06 PM Wow I didn’t know about the cocaine or Dana’s mother stealing her money. Are either of her parents alive? RetroGuy2000 01-11-2019, 12:01 AM Wow I didn’t know about the cocaine or Dana’s mother stealing her money. Are either of her parents alive? Actually, I mis-remembered, and it was her father. According to this article (http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:Z_x94oa8sikJ:vegasseven.com/2016/07/14/fallen-star/+&cd=14&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us&client=firefox-b-1), Dana's mother died, and her father sued Dana for financial support. Yes, her father, who had abandoned the family, actually wanted a chunk the money she made from DS. He died in 1997 (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/81523125/dean-plato), before Dana. From what I recall, Dana was making $30,000 per episode on DS; she must have made over a million dollars, which was a huge amount in the late 1970s and early 1980s. But she went through it very quickly, due to her drug habit, and was eventually fired from the show (because of the pregnancy). "The first time Paul Petersen laid eyes on Dana Plato, she had so much cocaine on her face that he had to advise her to wipe it off." (https://nypost.com/1999/05/20/dana-lied-til-she-died-platos-pals-tell-sally-the-price-of-drug-denial/) When Dana robbed the store, she made off with about $160.00. Lorimar Television 01-11-2019, 12:18 AM Wow that’s so sad. Atleast Dana’s parents died before her, always sad when the kid goes first. Btw the article linked this photo. I always wondered why Charlotte looked so surprised. I wonder what the actors were saying in the photo or if it’s staged. www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/attachment.php?attachmentid=235782&stc=1&d=1547180220 Lorimar Television 01-11-2019, 12:27 AM I never knew she committed suicide, I always heard it was an overdose.
