OMG what happened?
One time I wore my skates in the house... for about 30 seconds... my mom wasn't happy about that.
'80sSitcoms 12-27-2018, 06:43 PM OMG what happened?
Well, I wasn't waiting for a dance with Scott Dunbar!
I was at the doctor's, ready to get my essence "drawn" for lab work---and I get very lightheaded around needles! So it goes in, and I'm looking way away to the side, like I always do, and I waited, and waited, and waited, but nothing! She said she couldn't get anything out of me! LOL! I'm like, "It's in there!" lol! Then she gives up, I'm feeling a bit woozy, and when I put up my other arm for her to try, that was too much, I felt like some Frankenstein-ian experiment---then the blackout started comin' on, and I passed full out! I woke up with "10, 12 girls" hovering over me and holding my legs horizontal and trying to bring me back! LOL!

Haha no she def wouldn't wanna do that.
'80sSitcoms 12-27-2018, 06:50 PM Thanks...it happened again this summer! When I went to get a vaccination somewhere else. Luckily I was already in a recliner for that!
Yeah, turns out lightheadedness with needles, and not eating for about 15 hours or so, and/or really hot weather, doesn't add up well.

"Dr. Parker"!
I even got to say his name! Twice! I totally felt like I was in a 1980 season 1 episode! :D
RetroGuy2000 12-27-2018, 09:52 PM Woah!
Was he a dentist, too? Did he have a frizz head for a dental hygienist?
And I hate to ask this, but was he having an affair with the frizz head?
'80sSitcoms 12-27-2018, 09:53 PM ^---hahaha!
I have no idea on 2 and 3, but on 1 I can say I don't believe he was a dentist. I forgot what kind he was, I'd have to look him up, lol---in fact, I think tomorrow at the office I'll do just that! :D
(although, technically, Dr. Parker in Peekskill is an orthodontist; he only "dresses" like a dentist. Don't let any orthodontists read your post Retro, or they'll be up in arms! )

Know what's even worse? In "The Girls' School", Kimberly refers to Mr. Crocker as "the new headmaster". As in, there was a headmaster right before him, prior to May 1979. Crocker must have only lasted a few months.
Did the parade of headmasters continue after the setting moved away from Eastland? It seems likely; when Blair buys the school in season nine, the headmaster is Mr. Morehead. Then Blair becomes the headmaster. That means that Eastland had at least seven headmasters in about ten years. There may have been others we hadn't heard of.

'80sSitcoms 12-31-2018, 03:04 PM I once got to be "Tootie" for an entire night!
See, there was one night in my late teens when I went to visit my older sister in college (unlike Natalie's sister, the lines of existence with mine has never been blurred, haha), and one afternoon I put on my roller blades I'd brought with me, and I never took them off before bed. That afternoon, that whole evening, that whole night, wherever we went on campus or around town, I was rollin' on my wheels just like a tall Tootie! It was so much fun doing that, having "wheels growing from my feet", and I even made the Tootie reference during the night! (my sister also knew FOL [we had limited channels back then, lol] )
Wow...I'll never forget "the night I was Tootie Ramsey"!

We also had limited channels: four until about 1988, and then five until 1993, when we got Cable.

We had "5 1/2", counting PBS (another network station came in kinda sorta somewhat, hence the "1/2", lol), until my folks got cable after I went to college.
RetroGuy2000 12-31-2018, 10:15 PM We had these channels:
ABC
NBC
CBS
PBS (crappy signal)
Fox (around 1988, very snowy, and in bad weather the signal was too poor to see clearly. They would air nothing except the Fox logo for 16 hours a day, and then air Married with Children and The Simpsons on Sunday nights only. Eventually, they added a few more shows)
Scary Religious Channel (it was only on the air for a few months, on channel 68 or something, and very snowy, too).
Lorimar Television 12-31-2018, 11:50 PM I had basic cable til I was about 5 then I got expanded. Didn’t get digital until around 2008

Holy cow...did you grow up in an even more "out-there" area than I did? I grew up in Sue Ann Weaver country, a.k.a., "the country", lol (and are you exaggerating, or would Fox really air their logo 16 hours a day?? We had Fox too, but I don't remember that! lol)
Also: only a crappy signal for PBS in childhood is one of the saddest things I've ever heard.

In Fall 1987, Fox only aired on Sunday nights, and even then for only 2 and a half hours. The local stations were free to air local programs. But my local Fox affiliate didn't have local programs. They were a low-budget UHF station that had just recently signed on, and they had no money.
The FCC required, in that era, that all stations air something for 16 hours per day, so my local station broadcast the Fox logo... for 16 hours per day. No joke. They had nothing else, and they couldn't buy syndicated programming on no budget.
In Fall 1988, Fox added a second night of programming, on Saturday nights, and in 1990, they added a third night, on Mondays. But Fox had no budget and very few programs, and their shows were seen on stations with very weak signals. You'd have to add tin foil to your TV antennas. The situation was so bad that The Simpsons and Married With Children would make fun of the fact that they aired on Fox: "Assume Fox Network viewing positions!", Al Bundy would cry, and all the Bundy family would grab foil, wire hangers, etc (https://i.imgur.com/sXNTkyY.mp4), in an effort to watch Fox shows.
Fox wasn't profitable until 1994, when they outbid CBS for NFL football, and a bunch of local affiliates switched from NBC, CBS, or ABC to Fox (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1994_United_States_broadcast_TV_realignment). Until that time, Fox had to rely on very weak UHF stations that frequently went out of business. You can read about the history of what was then my local Fox station, KOCR-TV, here (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KFXA). It didn't end well for them.
Also: only a crappy signal for PBS in childhood is one of the saddest things I've ever heard.
In bad weather, they had a ghost image (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghosting_(television)). Still a better signal than Fox.

'80sSitcoms 03-28-2019, 02:55 PM So yesterday I was on a job assignment and my role was the least active. It went all day, and at one point I was like, "Ya know, I do have a book with me, I could discreetly hold it in my lap and read it while they're going on :read:", and it would have held my attention and helped me "wake up", but then I thought of Lisa and the "DRAMA" she caused on the season 2/3ish set when SHE would read during HER job, even though it wasn't hurting anyone or getting in the way of her work, so I thought the wiser of it and remained professional-looking and did not pick up my book.
Oh, and in case anyone's interested, though I don't expect you to be, lol, this is the book, lol:

'80sSitcoms 03-31-2019, 12:44 AM Oh! I keep forgetting to tell you guys...a few years ago I was out at a zoo, patiently standing in line to feed a giraffe (the cousin of our unofficial group mascot, the okapi! lol). And while I was glancing at the people in line, I was totally struck by---OMG---you wouldn't believe it. This girl in front of me looked like Molly Ringwald! I don't mean "favored". I don't mean "resembled". I mean, she was practically a carbon copy! She was probably in her late teens or at the latest early 20s (she was quite young, and was with a guy just as young), and she looked SO much like Molly that I HAD to say something. I could not leave her presence without remarking on the strikingly uncanny likeness!
She even had a stylish "fun" hat on!
So, with a genial smile, I said in a friendly way, "Excuse me, but have you ever been told you look like Molly Ringwald?" (I smiled and was very friendly because I didn't want to offend her in case she took it as me saying she was just a copy of someone else and not her own person, lol) And she immediately went into a half-smile with a hint of an agreeable chuckle in it (just like Molly would!), and she said with that hint of a chuckle, "Actually, I have been told that before." I was SO glad she had, I just loved how much she TOTALLY looked like her!!
Even her voice sounded akin to Molly's! That same range and vocal quality.
And then her doofy boyfriend said, "Who's Molly Ringwald"?
Oh, these kids! ;)
Okay, I don't really fault him for not knowing, 'cause the '80s are long gone, and most people but it was still funny. Well, when he asked, she turned to him and said, "She was an actress in the '80s", lol.
If I'd known I would "play" here with you guys, I would've maybe tried to take a discreet photo to share, but I had no idea back then I'd be cyber-socializing with other "Facts" guys, some of whom are total Lost Girl fanatics, lol.
Wow, I've met Molly Parker's doppelganger! :cheer:

:cheer:

A girl at a place I used to work liked telling the story of the current generation gap she's witnessed. She used to work somewhere with this younger girl like just out of college or something, and my former co-worker once said to her, in an imitation of Arnold, "What'choo talkin' 'bout, Willis?" and she said the girl looked at her with a straight face and said, "Why did you just call me 'Willis'?", and my former co-worker was like "Oh my God." lol

That's funny, because my aunt was nicknamed Tootie. It had nothing to do with TFOL because her nickname originated in the late 1950s, but I still find it interesting. They still occasionally call her that.
