That's right, "The Happy Weekend" first aired 60 years ago tomorrow, on Christmas Day 1958. Tony Dow's favorite episode from what I've read, and an excellent one. Feel free to post your comments here!

It’s a favorite of mine. I can’t imagine why they bawk at going up to the cabin. They can see that movie anytime, was it Jungle Fever. I was surprised that June allowed them at the end to make a raft and row out to the island.

Ward and the boys are so disappointed by the stocked lake. And Ward is so let down by the encroaching civilization, but the boys and June like it.

I liked the production on the crackling fire, and the scene itself. A really great episode, written by Connelly and Mosher.

Some things I like about this episode:

The magical scene with Beaver and Wally in front of the crackling fire.

The outfit Ward wears while fishing with the boys (plaid shirt and fedora)

Beaver's speech about the pleasures of "doing nothing" with his brother and dad

The fact that we don't know exactly how the episode is going to end. Beaver and Wally seem to have been seduced by the drive-in movie, yet in the end they surprise Ward by wanting to stay longer and build the raft.

How prophetic the episode is about kids and their hectic, over-scheduled lives.
