Lorimar Television 12-23-2018, 06:38 PM Valid point. I guess this is only about seasons 5 and 6 and the fire was 7, so Im off topic. Not sure how practical that was, but cool that they used it. How'd they call anyone using Klondike numbers? Did they have to dial the operator for connections? (Funny story: up until the mid-1980s in my town, you could still just dial five numbers when making a local call!) '80sSitcoms 12-31-2018, 11:33 AM Here's a shot of the Edna's Specials wooden cutout Oh wow, Lorsie! Cool! I don't remember that phone either, or anything about that sign! Whoa! Whoooaaa, you were around during 5-digit phone #s?? And what's a "Klondike number"?? I've tried Googling, but all I see so far is Klondike = "55", so wouldn't you just dial "55" and then the other #s? Or what? They will ask the operator to connect them to "Klondike 2411" (or something similar). Here is the full list of exchange numbers (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telephone_exchange_names). With a phone as old as the one behind Tootie, there were no numbers. You had to let the operator make the connection. The oldest phone I ever used was a rotary phone, too. I never had to use a phone like the one Tootie is using. But in the small town I lived in, you could still just dial five numbers for local calls. My phone number was 4-2974. '80sSitcoms 12-31-2018, 09:15 PM I'm sensing Retro has had some long/hard days recently? I've noticed you haven't shown up in several threads lately, and some of your responses are very straitlaced: ":singer:" and not as humorous: ";)" (but I'm not picturing you with the "frustration" of that guy with the microphone, lol) Or am I reading too much into a message board? Watch an old movie from the 1940s or so, when they pick up the phone. Hmm, I really like old movies, but I just don't recall ever hearing "Klondike". Now, I have of course heard, "Operator, could you please connect me to Lorimar Television? Thank you.", that type of connection. RetroGuy2000 12-31-2018, 09:20 PM Hmm, I really like old movies, but I just don't recall ever hearing "Klondike". (http://mentalfloss.com/article/61116/why-did-old-phone-numbers-start-letters) That is a Klondike-style number, and there are lots of them that were used for TV and film. Well, you guys have been only friends the last few weeks, so I've been very sensitive to behavior around here, lol. I've gotten no social life recently because I work two jobs, and my main job, I don't get paid holidays until after I've been there a year, so I've had to (with their blessing) work all these extra hours to get my regular pay; had to make up 24 hours for Christmas, and 16 for New Year's. So that has not been fun. Therefore, since I have access to here at my main job, I have been "socializing vicariously" through here as my only "fun" outlet for the last few weeks! Most people of course had rotary dials in the '70s and '80s, so I guess do you mean for anyone who had a rotary phone (most folks), they'd have to dial "0" and connect with the operator for Klondike calls? phone2: RetroGuy2000 01-04-2019, 01:23 AM Wait, I'm confused  ...the phone in EE has a rotary dial on it. I didn't see that. Yeah, in that case they wouldn't need to wait for the operator. They could still dial KL5-xxxx (555-xxxx). '80sSitcoms 03-05-2019, 12:17 PM Check it out, guys! The funky '70s lamp from season 1 1979 is still on the show 5 years and 4 seasons later! It's still there as of the latter part of season 5 in 1984! It's gone from the girls' room in the dorm, to Mrs. Garrett's bedroom over the cafeteria, to the living room in the Edna's Edibles house! I never realized it stuck around that long! I'd love a crack at it if it showed up on eBay! - Lorimar Television 03-05-2019, 08:37 PM Check it out, guys! Must’ve been one of the three girls Oo, good theory, Lorsie! That makes sense since if we assume the lamp was there in the dorm before Mrs. Garrett came along. Well, I doubut it was Blair's lamp, hmmm...could be Natalie's or Tootie's. But Mrs. Garrett was living in her bedroom over the cafeteria in the summer after the girls left the dorm, and thought they were coming back to the dorm. So, we can assume one of the girls graciously gave the lamp to Mrs. Garrett as a gift, or simply because they thought she could use it, or something. But, taking that into account, if it was gifted to Mrs. Garrett, then any 1 of the 7 girls could have given it to her. :) RetroGuy2000 03-06-2019, 12:03 AM Oo, good theory, Lorsie! She was the first girl in, so it makes sense that she brought the lamp with her. After all, she needed some light in order to dial the phone to call Roger. '80sSitcoms 03-06-2019, 12:06 AM Clearly, it was Nancy. After all, she needed some light in order to dial the phone to call Roger. Haha, but there's no proof she was the first girl in, so that's not clear at all. Actually we can assume Blair was at Eastland before Nancy, as Blair had been a student there since she was 12 ("The Interview Show"), or at least around the same time as Nancy, at the latest. And you know Roger didn't come along until 1980. Sitcommania 03-06-2019, 12:12 AM I think I’ve spotted the funky lamp in Good Times...! Ah, but Felice was the "first girl in", and so Nancy, in effect, was the first girl in as well. And you know Roger didn't come along until 1980. We only know when he was first mentioned, not that he came in in 1980... he might simply have been there earlier, just unseen AND unmentioned. RetroGuy2000 03-06-2019, 12:16 AM I think I’ve spotted the funky lamp in Good Times...! Felice was, but Nancy wasn't. There were 23 girls in the dorm in the first season, and Nancy and Blair and Sue Ann should be the same age. '80sSitcoms 03-06-2019, 12:31 PM Also, I thought the dorm on Maude was Cindy’s room? Oh yeah, I hadn't thought about that in a while! I remember seeing that episode with Maude and Vivian in that room on "Maude" and being all, "WHOA, that's where they got the first Facts of Life dorm bedroom from!" Found it...it’s on https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6i6v69 at 13:57. You can spot it throughout the whole scene, it’s about 4 minutes. I took a screenshot but can’t find how to post an attachment(??) Oh wow Sitcommania, good eye! Indeed, here it is! Maybe it was Tootie's lamp! Tootie's family could have known the Evanses via relations or friends and visited them, and maybe they gave the Ramseys the lamp, and Harrison & Diane gave it to Tootie to take with her to Eastland, and then Tootie gave it to Mrs. Garrett after both of their "co-first year" at Eastland! :) - Sitcommania 03-06-2019, 08:59 PM I wonder what happened to it after they remodeled the living room.
