Do the quickly made-for-television holiday films allow actors to phone it in?

Probably because real actors can't be bothered with such nonsense.

I disagree somewhat. Yeah some TV Christmas movies are terrible but some are pretty good I think. That's just my opinion.

When it comes to Christmas TV movies they usually use actors/actresses that have never acted in Hollywood before and are used to make the new actresses/actors famous but part of the reason why Christmas TV movies sometimes have bad acting is because it's hard to find actors/actresses that can fit the role that's tailor-made for them. Take for example Full House actress Lori Loughlin was a huge successful star in Christmas movies for Hallmark Channel and she made millions from each Hallmark Channel movie. A second Full House alum that also has made her mark in Christmas TV movies was Candace Cameron-Bure and she became Hallmark Channel's biggest movie star. And by using this new formula Hallmark Channel knew that famous stars was just what the doctor ordered and had stars like Brooke Burns and Kelly Packard appear in Hallmark holiday TV movies. Lifetime Channel has the exact same formula by adding stars like Tatyana Ali Tamera Mowry and singer Toni Braxton and her sisters Lifetime knows that big stars make many holiday movies hits in TV. And the same formula applies to actors as well such as with Dean Cain and Cameron Mathison but when a new actor is introduced in a Christmas TV movie it completely blows the other actors out of the water. But I think Christmas TV movies will improve with time by having the correct actor/actress to play a role and also improve the Valentine's Day themed TV movies as well

I would agree almost any Hallmark original movie has bad acting. But there have been three great TV Christmas movies since the 21st century started I have liked, all on NBC. Kelsey Grammer's version of A Christmas Carol is my all time favorite movie, an excellent musical. Dolly Parton's Coat of Many Colors and Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love were both wonderful, a refreshing change to see such a positive portrayal of Christianity on a major broadcast network. I also liked Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever, although I wouldn't put it on the level of the others.
