I like that Coach gets banished to Midnight, must have been doing awful from 10-11pm to be pushed to the wayside like that. Would NOT miss it if it went away completely! I wish Antenna would add Chico and the Man & It's a Living to their lineup, those are two rare gems that have been shown very infrequently and should be by Antenna!

Well then enjoy that I guess. More power to you even if it is a waste of time and energy on something you could be spending better things doing.

I wish Antenna TV would just take all their shows and throw them onto a streaming channel. This way we don't have to be restricted to their lousy scheduling. It would be great if we can just stream any show we want that they have rights to according to OUR schedule preference.

I don't know if it's too expensive for them to do or they just don't want to do it. I hate the new Saturday evening schedule with a passion and will miss my Saturday night classics now and will NOT be tuning into Antenna TV that night anymore.

I ordered a Roku this week (just $24 on sale at Walmart!) and will sign up for Hulu with their $5.99/month special for 1 year. They don't have the whole Saturday lineup Antenna TV is dropping, but they do have all the "McHale's Navy" and "Father Knows Best" episodes and I also found Roku channels that play all the "Burns & Allen" & "Jack Benny Show" for free! So now i'll have my Saturday night classic viewing back again. :)

If Antenna TV just took their whole library and added them to a streaming channel, all the good shows they're shoving to the graveyard hours could be seen anytime and not only that, we can choose the episodes we want to see as well.

Antenna can't just stream shows. It's a right they have to pay for, unless it's a public domain show.

That's too bad. Between their lousy scheduling, ever increasing commercial breaks, and dropping shows I like, i'm turning to DVD's and streaming now when I used to watch almost all my TV viewing solely on Antenna TV. Oh well. It's their loss.

Same here, mainly because I hate the credit crunch. But if they were streaming, there probably wouldn’t be a credit crunch which would be nice. I also wish MeTV’s shows could be streamed because their scheduling is bad as well although at least they don’t crunch credits.

With the Roku, I'd suggest an AirTV and an external hard-drive, assuming you can use an antenna. An indoor antenna will likely work well if your Antenna TV subchannel is on a UHF station. Then with the Sling app, you can record Antenna TV shows and it's a DVR and you can fast forward the commercials.

Not familiar at all with Rulu or Hoku, but it sounds interesting IF they offer shows you can't already buy on DVD. For instance do they offer all episodes of Bob Cummings Love That Bob show? Here's hoping for a Happy Shmoku year for all.

I'm curious, why not just get a DVR and record them? Then you can go back and watch whenever you want and skip through commercials. That's what I do anyway with my Tivo. I'm always surprised so many people here are so focused on time slots, as long as it airs at all and on a station with good reception I'm happy. Do most of you all primarily just watch live TV?

I just now looked up their schedule for Satuday night on January 5th and HORROR, the only show I watch on Antenna TV now, the Paul Lynde Show has been taken off from it's Sat. 6:30 pm slot!! Has this been scheduled for another day of the week now or is it gone? I know they're showing a marathon on 12/31 BUT they don't list anywhere which episodes they're playing. Antenna TV skipped past several episodes in their running of this show, I was hoping they'd at least show all the skipped episodes first before they removed it.:(

I can think of a slew of '80's and '90's crap Antenna runs that I'd be happy to wave bye bye to instead of the very few unseen TV series they had on.

Never heard of AirTV till your post and I just Googled it. Seems expensive at over $100! Reason I chose Roku is because it's the cheapest option for me.

All I really want it for is classic shows and after doing online searches today, I discovered there's quite a few different streaming classic TV channels to choose from that I can watch.

I went to Sling website and see if you subscribe to them. for $5/month you also get a dvr to record...but their packages start at $25/month...isn't that basically just cheaper cable?!

Thanks for bringing my attention to that Bob Cummings show! I never heard of it and am always happy to learn of new classic b&w sitcoms to watch. I just did a search of it online and see the episodes for that show are on You Tube, so through the roku, i'll be able to stream it to my TV.

To CFR..., yes, Bob's Love THat Bob show was very funny, it's one show I never get tired of watching, clever writing and great comedic actors including a young Dobie Gillis and even That Girl's mother plays Bob's sister. I've seen the one's on You tube and it's the same very few episodes you can buy on DVD already. There were 173 episodes and this is one show that is never shown on TV anymore. I'd love to see more than just the few 20 or so already on DVD. This is one of my favorite shows, wish Antenna or Me TV would run it.

DVR's are pretty expensive and i'm far from rich. And besides, with a streaming device, I feel it opens up a lot more options over broadcast tv and a dvr.

Right now I just have $5.00 rabbit ear antenna connected to my TV I pick up the roku Wednesday at Wally World) and for a long time I was fine with just the cheap antenna. And yes, just live TV for me for the last 5 years or so since cutting cable.

But lately i'm just getting more and more annoyed with the broadcast channels. It's not only Antenna TV, but Get TV and the other classic channels that are cramming more commercial breaks into the shows with the same commercials that play over and over and over that have me climbing the walls!

If one more commercial begs me to give them $19 a month or tries to sell me Medicare i'm going to burst!

I don't know what kind of commercials Hulu plays, but it's gotta be better than those. And i THINK (I could be wrong) the shows that are streamed are the full unedited episodes and not butchered like broadcast TV does.

I hooked up an antenna to my TV some years ago but I also have cable. I can tell you this, unless you live in some incredible area where signals are all focused on your house a $5 antenna ain't gonna cut it. You need to get a good antenna to pick up all the channels in your area, you may only be getting a few stations in on that weak antenna. I bought a Terk antenna TV when digital TV was invented and I can pick up a lot of channels in this area now. I did first try out my cheap antenna that I used for old style broadcast TV, it worked fine with the old broadcast format, but the new digital broadcasts today seem to need a more powerful antenna to be effective. The Terk I got works great, my old Sears antenna was useless. I do agree that those gosh awful commercials are revolting, whatever happened to ads for Jello or Pepsi, I'd be very happy to see a Winston Tastes Good Like A Cigarette Should ad over another weep fest for deformed kids or old geezer crap. And I'm an old geezer. As far as I'm concerned that old bat who can't get up can stay there.

173 episodes is a lot and it ran for 5 seasons! I'm wondering how come I never heard of this show before since it's not a one season wonder. It had to be popular if it ran for so long. I counted 28 full episodes on You Tube, so that will keep me entertained for a while.

And it is a perfect show to air on those channels but Antenna TV seems to be veering away from the b&w shows which is a shame. I don't want to tune into tv shows from the 80's, 90's and 00's on a classic channel.

The only one from those decades I really enjoy is Wings, and they shove it past midnight when I can't watch it...but Hulu has all the episodes, so i'll be able to stream it on my time now...and probably unedited too! :)

Yeah, the $5.00 RCA antenna I have doesn't pick up ME TV channel so i'm sure there are others i'm not getting. But for a long time, I just didn't care because Antenna TV was the main channel I tuned into because they would always have a great schedule with good shows. (I watch absolutely NO modern current shows and have zero interest in them)

But my love affair with Antenna TV is dwindling quickly and I think streaming seems a good cheap alternative to check out.

And those deformed kids commercials ALWAYS seem to come on when i'm eating. I don't want to see that when i'm trying to eat lol.

I can count on one hand the number of shows I like since 1985. I don't even watch live TV anymore, I watch only DVDs. Shows from the '50's and '60's and a few from the early '70s are shows I love. And that's really all I watch nowadays other than Lou Dobbs. If you love to see a man that loves women, then you'll like Love That Bob, it's all about Bob going out with hot chicks and trying to get away with his phony lines. The faces he makes when he's embarrassed or caught in a lie are priceless. Dobie, his nephew looks up to him as a hero, much to his mother's (That Girl's mother) chagrin. If you're a snowflake that gets offended at real men and real women then this show may give you a nervous breakdown. I love it.

I remember Love that Bob where I first learned of it from the original CBN network that had classics airing at night back in the 80's: Burns and Allen, Jack Benny, Love that Bob, and I married Joan.

Love that Bob also had Ann B Davis as Shultze the secretary, and Dwayne Hickman as his Nephew.

Didn't realize it had that many episodes, i watched it on and off but never really thought it was that funny continiously (Just my opinion)

These networks have such small audiences that most don't even subscribe to ratings servicez (AntennaTV just signed up with Nielsen this year). That's why almost all their commercials give you a phone number to call and pay money for something. If the commercial doesn't immediately generate calls, the advertiser just moves its money somewhere else.

Does signing up with Nielson mean that better commercials could be on the way? I saw a couple of car commercials on the channel this week which surprised me...I'd much rather see that than children with broken lips, wounded veterans and animals being recorded as they're shivering in the cold while begging for $19/month to save them.

Part of me suspects they purposely abuse those animals for the commercials, because why tape an animal that's shivering in the cold like that?! It's sick.

stevea
12-26-2018, 08:00 PM
The car commercials are probably local ads. There is a certain amount of break time that is allocated to the local Antenna/MeTV (etc.) affiliate. If the local channel does not sell that time, that local channel just sees more of the junk 800 number ads.

My theory about the junk ads for the children's hospitals, animal cruelty, etc., is they just use most of the Visa money the suckers send, to buy more junk ads. This is probably why we see more and more of them, even on cable channels with larger audiences, and higher ad costs. I absolutely HATE these ads--the animal one is so shameful, I have to mute it. Even playing Silent Night--they have no shame.

Of course, IMO we should give to reputable charities, not these shams.

I'm just now seeing a wounded veteran ad (with $19 a month on the screen) on a cable channel. Also note, they never really tell you what they do with the money--it's always tugging at the heart strings.

Probably local, but I saw the saddest, scariest ad on Antenna.

Pizza Hut.

stevea

The Pizza Hut ad was probably also local ad time. I think the only regular ad on Antenna is a short Reese's Peanut Butter cup ad. They might also have that seasonal Hershey's Kiss ad with the bells. The middle break on Antenna starts with local ads (I think it's all local, if the affiliate uses it)--our affiliate always kicks in a second or two too early, thus cutting off dialog, usually. They don't care.

The thing about some of the Antenna ads, like the Lifelock and the Proactive, is that they're about 5 minutes long...an infomercial within a program. So is that Sonobello fat sucking ad (the one that shows all that gross fat hanging from bodies, and photos after it's been sucked out) on MeTV. Gimme a break!

Fair enough, I held off myself on buying a DVR for the longest time but finally splurged last year on a Tivo Roamio. The initial cost wasn't cheap but it was one time and has really turned out to be worth it for me, it's completely changed my TV watching experience for the better. I have plenty enough variety on the OTA stations here to keep me entertained, and it's great to be able to record and watch shows on my own schedule and to be able to skip those commercials which I agree with you on are horrendous.

March 17 is when Head of the Class would have cycled back to the beginning and I would finally see the pilot I still haven't gotten to yet. It would have been March 16 but for some odd reason Antenna inserted a random season 1 Thanksgiving episode in with the Billy Connolly season a few weeks ago. While it makes sense for a Lotsa Luck St. Patrick's Day marathon, I hope Antenna doesn't just skip the episodes of the regular lineup that would have aired then, and the Head of the Class pilot can be rescheduled for March 23. There are some season 1 episodes after that I haven't seen yet as well.
