I recently got the complete series DVD set. I went with the 2018 re-issue, as I assumed that would have been the best.
And I have to say, I'm already disappointed, even though I haven't watched them yet. Here are my issues:
1. All the season cases are just generic cases. No images or descriptions of the show or anything, only on the main DVD set itself.
2. They are packaged in a way the DVDs can easily get scratched.
3. On the DVDs themselves, some have images of the character on them, while others have pretty much nothing, except the show's name on it. What's with that?
I just hope the content on the DVD themselves are fine.
Does anyone else here have the complete series set, and what are your experiences?

Hi, Superswiper. The only thing I can find different between the 2014 vs 2018 box sets is that the new one is a "slimmer" and "more affordable" packaging, meaning they further downgraded the already-flimsy packaging to reduce the price. Otherwise everything is the same as the 2014 release. Nothing was remastered and no extras were added. They may have also added closed captioning but I can't be sure. It's tough to find this info for some reason.
Here's text that advertised the 2018 re-release via Complete Tv Series on DVD: "...29 disc set includes all 174 episodes from 8 seasons of the beloved TV series. Loaded with special features, including 2 bonus never-before-aired episodes. The groundbreaking comedy series that defined a generation in a new slim "Come and Knock on Our Door Collection" for a great low price."
Sorry if you got bamboozled...at least you paid less. I hope you still enjoy the show!
(P.S.A. for anyone who might be shopping around...the individual season sets have the sturdiest packaging and all of the extras are included, so if you're worried about the packaging quality I'd recommend buying each season on their own.)

Well, I went with the 2018 release since that was cheaper. I wasn't aware it was going to be like this. I might want to put the discs in blank cases or something. At least then, they wouldn't get scratched as easily.
Well, I've been a fan of the show pretty much since I've first saw reruns of it on Nick at Nite about 20 years ago. I had been wanting to get the complete series set for years now, but never got around to it, money-wise, until now.
I watched a few episodes on the Season 1 DVD, and the video quality isn't that great. But for a show this old, I don't really mind too much. I mean, it's the best that's available, right?

The video quality is not great, but Season 1 is the worst. I think after the show was renewed for Season 2 production values went way higher, and in Season 7 the filming moved to a different studio where the lighting and film quality improved even more. But unfortunately they never remastered the original tapes for any of the DVDs.
(I'm not sure remastering is even possible since it was all videotape? Hopefully someone with more tech knowledge can address this because I might be wrong.)

On this new re-release is the end tag scene on Ralph's Rival still missing?

Yeah I am 99.9% sure the Ralph's Rival tag is still missing. The audio was corrupted and never was fixed. Far as I can tell the only difference on the most recent boxset release is that it's even cheaper packaging for a lower price-point. Everything else is the same.
