There is an application called "Shazam", which can identify music, movies, advertising, and television shows, based on a short sample played and using the microphone on the device. For the longest time, I've been wanting to identify the music that was always playing on the Dish Network Free Preview channel (Ch. 103).
I have recently learned that in February of 2017, it was announced that Shazam was going to discontinue its hosted web app for Windows 10 on PC and mobile. I've owned an HP laptop that uses windows 10 for some time now. Shazam would later be acquired by Apple Inc. in September of 2017.
And unfortunately, Cortana has lost the ability to identify songs as of early January 2018. This is tied with Microsoft's decision to end its Groove Music service. Since these moves mean that Microsoft Windows no longer has any tools to identify music. Now, even with my non-willingness to own a smartphone, I guess I'm out of luck.
What is it with Microsoft and its aversion towards music-identification apps? I think this is inexcusable. Do these recent moves by Microsoft mean I have to stop using computers that have Microsoft Windows for good just to get a music identification application like Shazam? What do any of you think about these decisions by Microsoft?
