CBS has yet to announce if Murphy Brown or Happy Together will return next season (https://www.reddit.com/r/television/comments/a18mu3/murphy_brown_revival_will_not_return_for_a_2nd/). The Nina Dobrev-led Fam will take over Murphy Brown's Thursday timeslot starting Jan. 10, while Man with a Plan takes over Happy Together's Monday timeslot on Feb. 4. CBS also has more episodes of Life in Pieces coming, but hasn't committed to a return date.

Bringing Murphy Brown back after being off the air for 20 years was going to be tricky no matter what. It was never a big hit in syndication because the humor was so topical. A reboot wouldn't have gotten big numbers with younger viewers no matter what, because they were unfamiliar with the original show. In other words, the show hasn't had the advantage of constant reruns like Roseanne has enjoyed.

Another disadvantage is that because the character is so liberal (https://www.newsbusters.org/blogs/nb/scott-whitlock/2018/11/28/far-left-murphy-brown-revival-cancelled-after-terrible-ratings), it likely turned off a lot of potential viewers. Most Republicans are in the same age demographic as the show's expected viewership, and today people are more easily outraged and triggered by politics.

Wish the reboot never even existed in the first place.
