Your wish is my command! I was going to save it for Christmas, as the script date shows that it was filmed right before Christmas 1979, but since it's officially Christmas season now, I guess it wouldn't hurt to reveal it a little early, as a special Christmas surprise.

(also..."Homework"? )

It's an odd little script. I believe it was meant to be a cold open or closing sting for another episode, if the episode ran short. Ultimately, it wasn't used, though it might have been taped.

Okay, per your request, "Molly's Holiday" is now posted in "The Group"; it's the version of the script with the alternate ending, and the one that gives more insight Cindy's family life, so I know you'll enjoy it! Merry (early) Christmas! :tree::stocking::cc:

I definitely will... once you have the time to read the scripts I've already posted! :happyface

It's a script I never expected, and didn't know existed. (And there are others, like that, too.)

Very short, indeed!

WHAT?

!!!

Once I started collecting scripts, I really started to realize that FOL was always a work in progress. Lines were cut or added, even on the day the episode was taped; scenes were cut, sometimes even after taping; and some scenes, and even entire scripts, never made it to broadcast, and definitely not DVD.

"Homework" is a good example of a "lost script", but there are definitely others; one such "lost" script was even posted here on these boards many years ago. I'm in the process of tracking it down.

We who have seen the completed episodes countless times tend to get in the mindset of "this is what happened in the episodes", forgetting that there are entire storylines, scripts, characters, character names, important lines, etc., that we never knew: an Alternate Facts Reality.

There is, I'm sure, an Alternate Facts Reality where Nancy had a decent number of lines; where Sue Ann visits Wichita for the summer; and where Cindy's original last name is revealed. There's even an Alternate Facts Reality where we meet Molly's mother. :happyface

Yeah, I've largely realized those aspects of shows, but I just hadn't thought about actual scripts that didn't make it.

Haha...ikr?? I was stunned when watching this as an adult and seeing that Molly's mother, Mrs. Parker, never made it onto the screen. I mean, we were set up and teased to see her! --- Mrs. Garrett: "And Molly's mother makes foouuuurr!"---that was the commerical lead-in line, whetting our appetites to see the "Clash of the Parkers" when Molly's mother walked through the door---but she never did!

I am dying to discuss them with someone who will treasure them as much as I do, but the most I can get is, "I'll read them later" or "It was cool"-type comments.

No joke. The Facts of Life Goes to Australia was originally a different script called The Facts of Life Goes to Venice. It was to have starred Mrs. G (it was written in February 1986). Instability in Italy caused the production to become delayed, and eventually Venice became Sydney and the Outback. TJ, the site administrator, confirmed these details back in 2001.

Ya know, I think there must be something weird about printing to them online. You're right, if you stop in the store and print a black and white copy, it is something like 5 cents a page or so. The website was wanting $29 - $32 per script! (maybe it sensed they were "Facts" scripts and realized their value! lol) I'll stop by and check that out! (they have computers there, so you can just nicely go online and print them from the 'net)

Yeah, even 10c per page for black and white would still only be, like, $4.00.

Well thanks, but this is tougher than I thought...turns out it must black and white copies that are, like, 5 cents a page. I was thiiiiiiiis close to clicking "Print" at a copy store on "The Girls' School" when I asked just to be sure how much black and white printed pages are (assuming it was 5 cents), and an employee there said "49 cents a page".

I immediately closed the document! lol

That was gonna be like 24 bucks for the script, which would be roundabout $125 or so I guess for 5 (and a bit more for "Homework"). Maybe a library might be cheaper. In fact, I seem to recall them being 10 cents a page when I last printed out something at one, though, granted, that was at least a few years ago.

The search continues!

Oh, no problem!

It's my belief that fans of the show gain a better understanding of the show, its production, character motivations, etc., through the reading of these scripts. I had wondered, for years, why some things were written the way they were, or what the story behind certain scenes and events, and these scripts provided some answers... and, naturally, raised new questions.

Being able to share these scripts with others makes it possible for me to discuss this show with other fans of the series.

Maybe not just Valerie, but she was definitely the case that started it all (at least, at her level [i.e., not Chuck Cunningham] ). The one that shocked all of Hollywood (well, maybe that's a bit dramatic, but you get it, lol).

Lmao i don’t think Chuck really thought he was untouchable. He was recast after season 1 and only appeared twice in season 2. The others on the list were actually title characters, minus Sasha. Suzanne Somers thought so as well on TC

He played Cody on Step by Step with Patrick Duffy and Suzanne Somers. He was introduced as the cousin in episode 4 and promoted to regular by episode 6. He stayed until season 5 when he was arrested under domestic abuse charges. Turns out he was protecting his kids from his alcoholic wife. He won custody and got to appear in the second to last episode of the series.

Lorimar, above, explains who Sasha Mitchell is. He became the break-out star on Step By Step.

Hayley Mills' Disney films are wonderful. I'm sure Disney execs were hoping to re-capture that magic on GMMB.

Maybe not just Valerie, but she was definitely the case that started it all (at least, at her level [i.e., not Chuck Cunningham] ). The one that shocked all of Hollywood (well, maybe that's a bit dramatic, but you get it, lol).

I think it only rocked Hollywood because Valerie took the case public. Prior to that, when TV stars got fired, they just vanished. To some extent, Suzanne Somers may have been a trailblazer, too. They didn't stay silent when they got axed.

Well, I think Suzanne Somers later realized what a huge mistake it had been to demand a 500% raise in salary on Three's Company, while holding up production. By the time of SBS, Suzanne had been reduced to doing Thighmasters commercials. I'm sure she welcomed a Lorimar Television paycheck.

But, on a happier note, Valerie says the main people involved in that get along now.

Oh that's right, SM was on S-b-S. I remember Cody, "duuuude", lol.

I think it only rocked Hollywood because Valerie took the case public. To some extent, Suzanne Somers may have been a trailblazer, too.

Suzanne was, yes, but regarding Valerie, it rocked Hollywood because it was the first time a seemingly untouchable star ("They can't fire me, I'm the show's title!") on an eponymous series was fired from their own show.

Ironically both worked on Lorimar shows

Oh Lorimar, you troublemaker, you!

"reduced"? I see what you mean, but, since being banished from TC, that woman has done nothing but roll in dough --- and I ain't talkin' the kind of dough at Edna's Edibles! It's amazing how rich that gadget and all of her books and money-handling have made her (I wouldn't mind being able to call her "Aunt Suzanne", haha).

I'd love Sex Symbol, Dear Me, Green-Eyed Monster, Pretty Babies, The Little Chill... any of the post-season-one Lost Girl scripts. Unfortunately, I haven't found most of them, yet: just Gossip and The New Girl, part 2. Eventually, though, I will find them. We're lucky that there are quite a few, as that helps our chances in finding some of them.

Front Page is the Cafeteria-era script I'd most like to see. I want to see how Sue Ann and Cindy's final Eastland scene was scripted. I don't believe they were supposed to vanish into thin air like they did, due to what I suspect was bad editing.

"I have my sources."

Just kidding.

My scripts were found all over the Internet. One I found on this website. Four I purchased on eBay. Several I found on another forum. Several were purchased on Script City (more reliable) and ScriptFly (less reliable). Some were emailed to me by friends, or available on writers' websites, or Google image searches.

I love seeing cut things and extra material to any shows or movies that I like.

Same here. Seeing additional scenes gives us a better idea of what the writers/producers had intended. It can also shed light on the characters themselves, as we saw with Nancy's cut scene in "Overachieving" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yo4UhEW2EO8&feature=youtu.be), or the parts of Molly's lines that are cut for syndication in "The New Girl, part 2". Seeing Nancy talk about her OCD habits, which is something we never knew about her, reveals more of a character that we never got to really explore. And seeing Molly's additional lines reveals the role that Molly Ringwald accepted, rather than the role that aired, and gives insight into why she ultimately left the show as a semi-regular.

I only have the 25 on this list (https://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showpost.php?p=5446100&postcount=1). Williamson wrote for the show during Seasons 8 and 9. I have no scripts from those seasons, and am not really a later-seasons fan, though I wouldn't mind getting the script for episode 8-06, "The Little Chill", when old, familiar friends at last return to Peekskill. Blair's nose was pushed in the pudding, so Mrs. G's line was about her inhaling pudding and thus gaining weight. I feel like they made the right decision to cut that line, as well as Sue Ann's "We're even!". Ending with Blair's face covered in pudding was a stronger ending, so I agree.

Unless I'm misreading something, it sounds like you're saying they cut Sue Ann's line "We're even!" from the script. But it actually is in the final episode. In fact, I think her line is actually longer, with her saying "Now we're even!", which I cannot believe you two Sue Ann fan brigaders would not notice, lol ;), but she definitely does say "We're even!" at least.

Ah! I never could hear what she was saying because of the audience laughter. But now we know what she actually said. Which is very cool.

YAY! We can finally discuss it!

Haha yes. I didn’t think it made sense since they were just telling Sue Ann not to worry about her weight so much, and then she tells Blair that? Seems kinda mixed message sounding.

Good point. Is it possible that their dispute had something to do with that cut line? Is that why Molly felt intimidated? Or was that the producers trying to minimize contact between two child stars?

I think Mindy Cohn has stated that she is shy (in a podcast I listened to),and speaking as a shy person, that can come across as being aloof. I think when Molly Ringwald was asked that question, she only recalled the situation for the sake of giving an answer. I don’t think Mindy Cohn was ever mean.

Molly did say that Mindy was the mean girl on the set and was intimidated by Mindy. Molly has a habit of giving out teases without being specific. I know people who Mindy stayed with when she was having her cancer treatments and they said she was a very nice person. She has a reputation of being nice. Molly, on the other hand, does have a reputation of being a diva. There must have been some kind of bad blood between them at the time since they didn't show Molly and Mindy lines with one another.

Even in the original script, there was no interaction between Molly and Jo. Wonder if the writers and producers felt this would have been too awkward for everyone on the set.

I definitely could see where a shy person could be seen as aloof.

Then again, Melissa Sue Anderson also described herself as shy, but Melissa Gilbert said she was just plain mean, and their rivalry went on for years, so I'm not sure what to make of the Mindy/Molly situation. What could even have happened on the set to cause Molly to feel intimidated? Other than having her lines cut, which we know happened.

I did always get the impression that La Mol was a bit of a diva, though that seemed to post-date her time on FOL. I certainly got that impression from Molly's book, Getting the Pretty Back, which was supposedly a "self-help" book, but instead felt like it was advice written by Blair Warner: page after page of completely useless "advice", like where to get the best camembert cheese when you visit Paris in Winter, or the best way to uncork a cabernet when your chauffeur has left the corkscrew in the limousine, and you're on the slopes in Aspen, and then you just happen to run into Indira Ghandi, etc., etc...

I don't know that I'd say the lack of lines proves there was bad blood, but it certainly is odd. Molly Parker was just as close to Natalie as she was to Tootie or Blair.

I don't feel that way, because if so, why give Sue Ann, Nancy, and Cindy lines with Jo? I suspect the producers just expected the Lost Girls to be professional children around the Core Four: say your lines and take the check.

It seems as though the producers had plans to bring Molly back, after TNG2, but we know she decided not to go back, because she felt humiliated, being demoted to semi-regular. Julie Pie seems to have had the opposite feeling, but maybe she didn't feel that way at the time.

During the Paley Festival, the Core Four were asked if it was awkward to work with the Lost Girls after the Cast Purge, and Lisa and Nancy said no. Lisa pointed out that she had already worked with Julie Pie on the NMMC, and Nancy said, "Maybe we're not the people to be asking." Which was a good point.

The producers weren't very mindful of peoples' feelings, IMO, based on the perceptions relayed by Geri, Felice, Molly, and Kelly, albeit many years after the "fact". ;)

Perhaps because the other lost girls were older, they handled the demotion/firings better than what Molly did. Molly clearly was not a happy camper in that last episode. Her icy stares in Jo's direction when waiting in line with Margo, the lip biting, the eye rolls after she tells Margo to stop harassing Jo.

When watching the original episode (I was almost 16 then), I noticed a change in Molly going from being such a happy child in season 1 to a moody one in this episode. It was only many years later did I find out how she really felt about being on this episode (her worse job ever).

I also wondered why the producers didn't team Molly up with at least one of the other lost girls for moral support. They would have gone through the same feelings Molly did, but handled it better. Instead they isolated a 12 year old child from the group she used to be in and I imagine that the actress playing Margo was basically a complete stranger too (and she was 19 years old at the time). Thought that was quite cruel.

Molly's mentioned this, but "Dope" (S1E13) strongly indicates Julie Pie would have been kept on, while one documentary says Julie Anne was the last to be expelled. There's even a newspaper article from July 1980 that says Felice was being kept on.

By August 1980, they knew Molly, Felice, Julie Pie, and Julie Anne would be gone; we know this because there were already news stories reporting that only Mindy, Kim, and Lisa had made the cut.

Without Jo, there would have been no punishment, because the whole new-girl-steals-van plot was totally ripped off from the then-recent film Little Darlings. In the film, a spoiled rich girl and a poor street hoodlum girl meet at summer camp, clash, dare each other to do dangerous things, and eventually hotwire the camp van. Brandon Tartikoff loved the film, and wanted to see that plot incorporated into FOL. He even named the character "Foxy".

Yeah, I know she felt terrible about doing this episode. Maybe, as you say, being with another Lost Girl would have made it easier. Then again, maybe Molly's despair would have carried over onto another Lost Girl, causing them both to refuse to do more episodes. Which would have sucked, IMO. I love those touches of continuity, where we see other girls at Eastland.

I think the producers believed they were throwing Molly a bone by having her in the episode at all. They certainly weren't perceptive or empathetic folks, later going on to bring in scales to the set, in order to weigh the Core Four.

When I first saw this episode when it originally aired and I was 15, I thought Molly must have gotten up at the wrong side of the bed and was not happy. I only found out what happened behind the scenes 2 decades later. Looking back, you would notice that Molly is giving icy stares in Jo's direction and she is biting her lips a lot as she was entering the cafeteria with Margo.

So after I saw that I decided consulting the Molly Parker book on body language (who became a body language expert in season 1), This is what they had to say about lip biting, "According to body language expert Molly Parker, biting and chewing on the lip often indicates fear and anxiety. It can mean that the person is uncomfortable in the situation, worried or insecure about something."

And then after Molly gives her last ever FOL line to Margo, she turns her head away from the camera and gave one of those classic Molly Ringwald eye rolls. Molly was such a happy child in season 1, there is not even a hint of happiness in this episode.

Yes, we LOVE those interviews; as far as I know they are Molly's first talking about FOL since 1986, when she did the infamous "worst job ever" interview.

But the other pieces of info we have, in documentaries and newspaper articles, don't really support Molly's contention. Still, it wouldn't be unknown for producers to be less than forthcoming with information to the acting talent; we know some other girls on this show felt "disappointed" about so many "promises" that had been made, which didn't come true. Felice and Pamela Adlon have both spoken about this.

As far as we know, there was never any "not getting along" or "disputes" between Molly and Mindy. And Molly never said the words Mindy was "a mean girl". She just had to give an answer to "Who was the mean girl on the set?", and she obviously was desperately trying to come up with SOME sort of answer to answer the question for the sake of being asked it, and she answered in a way that was obvious that she was just saying Mindy just to say someone, because that's the closest she could get. I liked that. She didn't just go, "Oh, Mindy!" She had to REACH for an answer, and then she couldn't even say anything bad about Mindy. All she could say she was she was "intimidated" by her. I would like to see the Molly/Mindy thing covered in the Reelz FOL Documentary. While I'm glad they got together as adults, and Molly could now see that Mindy was a nice person, it did seem as though Molly thought Mindy was perhaps mean, based on her response. Then again, maybe she was just intimidated by the girl hand-picked by Charlotte to appear on the show: the one who wasn't even in the backdoor pilot, who wasn't even a theater-trained actress or a professional child, and yet still made the cut during the Cast Purge. We all know Molly did not take being Margo's sidekick well... then again, who would? Margo was downright cruel.
