Just a review.
I live overseas and get my TV shows from a website www.watchseries.to. This website has been a godsend since I can watch most series overseas.
For some reason "The Conners" has been very slow to come on this website, I was looking for it for a month (cannot access HULU, Network sitcoms or any of that jazz since I live overseas), and now it came on with the first six episodes (Groovy, since there is no Young Sheldon on this week).
I like ensamble shows, and not one where one player is the "star" and the central person in the cast, and the best shows allowed their ensamble to shine and not take all the light, or shows like WKRP or Barney Miller where each actor is of the same rank.
I hope the show stays on because I like it a lot. I don't miss Roseanne at all, and I think John Goodman and Sara Gilbert can carry the show well and the humor is still there too. I will say that the show is a bit dark because the family is struggling (let's have Dan win the Powerball for real and then drop dead the final show, with Roseanne Barr coming to the funeral as another character) and really things are not going to get much better and it is a slice of lower middle class life. I like the dramatics of it actually.
John Goodman is a treasure and he has never been in a bad film, well except for Masked and Anonymous https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0319829/?ref_=_434. He is really an excellent actor who has been in all kinds of stuff for thirty years, and I don't think you will find someone who hates John Goodman or doesnt like his work (except for Masked and Anonymous of course)
Another issue is that the little girl playing the daughter of DJ (unless the kid is a stepchild) is dark black and if the child is half white would not be that dark. I don't understand why there seems to be few mixed race actors out there who could play these roles (I mean, they cannot be hard to find in Los Angeles.) Sullivan and Son was another show with a White man with a Korean wife, the son (who created the show) was half Korean, but the actress playing the daughter was full blooded Asian, with me wondering is it that difficult to find a half asian/half white woman in California who is a good actress.
Lastly the opening where they are sitting down to breakfast and Darlene giving Dan the fruit plate and switches with Harris for the real food and then him putting it into his mouth and having it pop out like a tounge was precious.
Dont kill it ABC!
