View Full Version : November/Thanksgiving at the dorm

Happy November! Happy Thanksgiving Month!

And boy, wouldn't you love to be at the dorm for Thanksgiving Day*---being with "our girls", and Mrs. Garrett whipping up a feast that would make Martha Stewart green with envy.

Roast turkey, seasoned stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce**, homemade rolls with butter, pumpkin pie, mmmmmm...any other culinary requests for Mrs. Garrett for this Thanksgiving meal? (just don't ask for cheese dip, as we can't count on it making it to the table! haha)

And instead of stereotpyical (and boring, to me, lol) football, after dinner Nancy*** can go to the piano and accompany Molly, as Molly strums her little guitarette and shrilly belts out classic Thanksgiving carols "Jingle Bells" and "Over the River and Through the Wood" (yes, "Jingle Bells" is actually a Thanksgiving song, not a Christmas song! [I know! Isn't that fascinating??])

*(pretending for some odd reason that all the girls are in the dorm instead of with their families at home, lol---I know, a snowstorm! It could be a Thanksgiving blizzard!)

**(I don't know if I like cranberry sauce, but it's such a traditional Thanksgiving dish, lol)

***(in my fan universe I'm picturing Nancy as the pianist among the girls)

Thanksgiving with the Mother Hen Garrett and her brood at the dorm---I'm reserving a seat! :D

Save me a seat also!

I called (and called and CALLED---Nancy had the line tied up with Roger, so it was very hard to get through!) and let them know there would definitely be 4 extra guests---me, you, Retro, and Lorimar, and they said the more the merrier! :D

Or, in this case, should I say, "the more the 'Blair'ier"?

I call a seat across from Cindy and Molly! :)

At first I was going to say a seat "between" them, but then I realized I want to talk to them, and it's much easier for conversation to be face-to-face than side-by-side.

Haha! The cheese dip!

*grabs a seat between Cindy and Sue Ann* I'm not going to try to yell across the table at a holiday this noisy! Why, there must be 10, 12 people!

We should leave space, too, for whoever else wants to join us.

And as a special Thanksgiving surprise, I have placed another script on the table in Tumpy's room. Just do the secret knock to get in... ;)

Haha, it won't be that bad, lol.

Mrs. Garrett is going to be at the head of the table (with her back to her housemother's room), and I'm going to be by the corner of the table to her left (with my back to the 4th wall). Cindy will be near Mrs. Garrett (where she can keep an eye on Cindy's cheese-dip-rebelling self), and Molly beside right, so that way I'm across from them for conversation. :) Blair can sit to my left.

Mr. Bradley can be at the other end of the table (the "foot" of the table? lol).

We should leave space, too, for whoever else wants to join us.

Yup, plenty of room!

Maybe corn? It's not a traditional Thanksgiving without corn, which the Native Americans brought.

Plus, corn was so valued at Eastland, that they had a Corn Maiden, after all. Without corn, what will our adorable Corn Maiden eat?

Maybe...or maybe Nancy will keep him on the line and set the telephone on the table!

I thought it only fitting Nancy should sit by Nina, since she's the one who mentioned her by name, as a fellow dorm-dweller.

Or, our educational system would have us believe. Last night I re-watched The Real Story of Thanksgiving on cable. It's fascinating what myths there are things we hold as "traditional" really weren't until recent times!

Ah, corn..."maize" :)

Yeah, Nancy seemed closer to Nina than the other girls... in that at least Nancy acknowledged Nina's existence. The other girls acted as though Nina wasn't even there!

Later on, whatever invisibility disease Nina and Roger had, Nancy got, too!

Really? The Smithsonian (https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/what-was-on-the-menu-at-the-first-thanksgiving-511554/) says the Indians taught the Pilgrims how to grow corn.

Well I mean the entire "first Thanksgiving" affair that we're all taught in school. In the documentary below, the myths about the first Thanksgiving are tackled starting at about the 8:37 mark (I love this documentary---they also made "The Real Story of Halloween", and "The Real Story of Christmas!").

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Before I get to go to the dorm for Mrs. Garrett's Thanksgiving, we're going to my aunt's house (the one I posted who kinda reminds of looking a bit like Blair, lol). I'm bringing Cranberry Ginger Ale (for me, it's a "must" for the holiday season), and also a vegan pumpkin pie! No foolin'! Molly would be SO proud of me!!! :D

"No, but I play one on TV! :groucho " haha :p

No, I'm not "vegan", although I do try to be organic/natural about things. I buy only organic or natural household cleaners and bath/grooming products (I'm allergic to a lot of stuff in the regular kind of those things so go as "green" as I can). And I do try to buy more organic/natural foods, but I'm not a strict vegan or vegetarian. However, with meat I do tend to eat more turkey, chicken, and fish. No "mystery meat".
