Yesterday they edited out the scene where Wally is doing his homework in their room and Beaver is pretending to shoot a gun. He says he’s going down to get Ward to help with his homework and asks Wally for paper. He says to Beaver to close the door so he won’t hear Ward yell. They started the episode with June and Ward discussing going to a movie.

Sounds like MeTV is starting to bow at the altar of political correctness. I noticed they skipped The Rifleman episode where the Chinese people came to North Fork. AMC showed it the same day.

It's amazing we baby boomers survived cap guns.

I actually saw that episode on AMC. You said MeTV skipped it? They never used to. Rifleman has been on MeTV forever. That episode is politically correct. They show Wang Chi as a learned and good man teaching his boy patience and respect for others while Fergus, the white guy teaches his boy hate. In the end Fergus is kicked out of North Fork and Wang Chi sets up business with his laundry. It is sort of steriotypical of a Chinese laundry. I liked the episode. If they start banning gun violence we won’t see it again.

I agree, I see nothing wrong with that episode. In fact, it's as right as it can be. (yes, it probably does play to stereotypes, but they could do a disclaimer at the beginning--that's the way the world was back then).

Yes, they did skip it. I wanted to DVD record it, but I did get it off AMC (more edited than MeTV, but at least I got it.)

They also skipped an early WKRP episode when they started showing that. I don't watch that show, but there was a big hullaballoo on the message boards about it.

In Beaver’s Poem I was surprised that June advised Ward not to write the poem for him. In Beaver’s Poster later she wondered why Ward couldn’t draw Beaver a nice poster as he was a talented artist. Ward learned his lesson from the dreaded poem.

I saw this on DVD yesterday and I remember that part with Beaver shooting the gun. I thought the poem he came up with in the end was just adorable!

Yeah it was "The Duck", right? (The Duck, by Theodore Cleaver, Third Grade).

There's a later episode where Beaver is playing with a real cap gun in the living room. MeTV showed that, I think.

Beaver played with a rifle in the living room in Larry Hides Out. He’s also wearing a holster with 2 guns in the bedroom in either Beaver Takes a Bath or Beaver’s Bike.

There are other examples of things that would never happen today. In a very early Dennis the Menace he is wearing and using a double holster with toy guns. Also him and Tommy with cap rifles. I remember routinely playing with cap guns as a kid. The caps came in a roll. I imagine they're no longer sold.

I still have a silver gun my son had (I had a good one way back) that took those rolls of red caps. Had a neat burn smell. A thing of the past. Like those ‘boy’ guns from Remco.

I had a "rifle" like the Rifleman. I imagine it took the caps.
