Probably cause it was honest, true country/bluegrass music from that era, which isn't around much today---it's mostly bubblegum pop with pretty faces.

I was always into 80's music when I was in middle school and that was on the top of my list of good songs from the 80's. Geez, I can't believe I just admitted that!! That song is from 1972 by Chuck Berry. And I agree with your comments. Chuck was in much better form in the '50s with his hits "Sweet Little Sixteen" and "Johnny B. Goode," among others.

"Seasons In The Sun" is from 1976. Around August.

Oh, yes. I see by your profile that you were just about to start your teen years in 1974. About age 10-12 is usually when kids become interested in music (typically rock).

Those songs I listed the year for (My Ding-A-Ling, Seasons In The Sun, etc.) were from memory since I do remember them when they were new. My brother and I used to collect "Top Thirty" weekly surveys from radio station 93 KHJ (AM). He collected the ones from June, 1972 to Aug. 1976. I started collecting them from 1977 until the station stopped printing them in Sept., 1980.

BTW, that song the other poster listed, Brother Louie (by The Stories) is from 1973.

I'd say, imo, a lot of people liked it because there's a lot of, well I wouldn't exactly call them "county" people, but there's a lot of non-city people in America who enjoy down-to-earth bluegrass music. I don't really like bluegrass music. but I liked that soundtrack.
