Today I, watching an episode every Monday, watched episode 1.9, "Raft On The River" (had to skip past the Thanksgiving episode, saving it for next week when I'll watch 2 episodes for a change, 1.10 on Monday then on Thanksgiving going back to 1.8 for the Thanksgiving epis.) and I've now determined that these Me TV showings ARE the same as the fake music replacement versions in the commercial sets. The picture and the speaking audio quality is EXCELLENT, a nice improvement over the shows shown 10 years and more ago. BUT, yes a big BUT too, the new background music ruins the shows.
In fact, after hearing the first notes of what sounds like foreign background music to me I can't help myself, I refuse to ruin my viewing Sons pleasure with this annoying imitation music and I ejected the fake version out of the player and put in the genuine version disc with the real sweet music intact.
By the by, for a real sample of genuine My 3 Sons background sound, go here, this was one of the great songs removed from the ME TV new version episode today, and it's a shame. Music like this makes the show:

Upon comparing the 2 though I did notice some SMALL little additions of scenes restored in the new version that was edited from the vintage recording, for one, as Chip leaves out of the house to camp out, Steve asks him if he has his water pistol, Chip replies yes, this itty bit was not shown in the old TV Land version, also I believe another brief few seconds of Steve & CHip in the raft at night was also edited out. I'm surprised too, with the liberal love of thought and speech control not meeting with their opinion of correctness you'd think talk of a gun (even a water gun) would have not made it in the new version. Someone must have been asleep at the censor button. Also in the opening credits in the new version an announcer is heard announcing the show in the TV Land version it's just the theme song. I think this announcer version is actually the genuine way it was originally broadcast and for some reason it was replaced 10 and 20 years ago when the show was repeated on cable channels with just the theme alone sans announcer.
I will say this one positive thing though, the new version did try to use a harmonica type song to replace my favorite harmonica genuine background music. When the real harmonica background music was heard in the original version (another reason I must watch the originals for this great harmonica sound) the new replacement music was a harmonica type song. It actually wasn't terrible, in fact if you had never heard the real thing you might think it good background music. In this one instant it's the difference with this harmonica background musical case of being either fairly nice or of being truly excellent as in the original background.
I would like to figure a way to play the new version's video while at the same time playing the original version's audio and mixing the new video with the old audio. Possible with 2 DVD players playing at once but some trouble too. Some folks with more knowledge of computers than I may do this with the magic of a computer's help, creating one disc with new visuals but using the original soundtrack.
