I was pleased to see some of the shows that TV Land has added. We all know that the shows they air are syndicated which means they have been edited. But why does TV Land edit their shows even more ? Case in point : I just happen to have some episodes of Dennis the Menace that was aired on Nickelodeon in the 80's and there were two episodes that TV Land aired yesterday where several scenes were cut that Nickelodeon showed. One scene that was cut was Dennis saying Devil Egg , Devil Egg to Margaret. I guess TV Land thought the word Devil Egg was inapropriate for airing. I just wonder how many other shows that are edited that TV Land edits even more. I don't understand their thinking.

I too hate the fact that they edit the shows even more than they already were, but I guess it's better than no show at all, lol, which is almost the case if they keep editing!

I have to agree with you. It is better than no show at all. If they keep editing the show even more, we may see more commercials than the show. I saw a book at the Library where I live of shows that are available for stations to buy (or whatever it's called they do) and what's interesting is they not only offer the syndicated versions ,but the unedited ones as well.

This may be stupid, but do unedited shows "cost more?" I mean, why doesn't TVLand just buy the unedited shows, and then work from there, heaven forbide, they can't fit in 10-15 minutes (or more) of commercials. I never saw the "original" TVLand (no commercials, just retromercials and TVLand promos), but I wish they would return to that, it seems all the cable channels without commercials eventually go to commercials (Disney, AMC, TVLand, etc so many others).

It really makes no sense.

I don't believe the unedited versions cost more, and distributors have made unedited versions of some shows available in syndication (several southern stations showed "Andy Griffith" unedited in the past). It's just unusual for a station to take the unedited version, because they can make more money showing edited versions and fitting in more commercials. Too bad.

It is common for cable channels like TV Land to restore footage that syndicates take out, but to remove footage that syndicates leave in. (The Brady Bunch is IMO, the best example of this) EVERY sit-com shown now, that was in past years has been edited down in some way. Some sitcoms are just edited way more than others. It appears that, for the most part, TV Land has been showing I Love Lucy, almost uncut, compared to the severely butchered Nick at Nite edits. Has any one calculated how much "Lucy" footage has been restored since TV Land acquired it? There are scenes that I have not seen in years! (Oh, Nick at Nite, of all networks, ran "I Love Lucy" uncut when they first acquired it, but began chopping it up since 1995. Nothing changed until TV Land got it and restored most of the cut footage.)
