View Full Version : The Cowsills
Hawkee 11-07-2018, 03:39 AM I found a song called The Rain,The Park, And Other Things that was sung by a group called The Cowsills and I thought their songs were great. I do know that they also did a song called Indian Lake which was also sung by Tommy James And The Shondells and was also a country song too. Whenever I hear The Rain,The Park, And Other Things I thought the song was originally called I Love The Flower Girl but it was a cool song

Yeah the Cowsills were really cool! I love their songs too!:)I was a really little girl when they were popular, but my older Sister had their records! Have you heard the song" Hair" by them ? It's really cool! But my favorite is The rain, the park and other things ;)

The Cowsills had a lot of hit songs in the late 60's. I agree Bonnie Their version of "Hair is really cool. The lead singer on that record, the oldest boy, is now deceased as is their Mom. :(
The Partridge Family was based on this group.

That's sad to hear. :(
Hawkee 11-08-2018, 02:46 AM I do know The Cowsills version of Hair because my mom had the soundtrack of Hair and she knew the words to every song of Hair and I found The Cowsills on my 60's cd and it inspired me to write about The Cowsills

dakert 11-08-2018, 12:03 PM If you watch recent videos of The Cowsills they still sound great. It is fun to see them do "I Think I Love You"
OH Nuts! 11-09-2018, 10:36 AM I LOVE The Cowsills. “The Rain, The Park, And Other Things” is one of my favorite songs EVER. It’s one of those songs that when you first hear it, you stop in your tracks and wonder “WHAT IS THE NAME of that GREAT song? “ because you just want to hear it over and over again. (As a kid I first thought the title was “I Love The Flower Girl”.). Shame it never made it to #1 but it did get to #2. “Daydream Believer” kept it off the top spot. But that was OK as it was another great song (my favorite Monkee’s song).
Thanks for bringing up some fond memories for me Bestie. And your name is no misnomer, as you are THE BEST. I always enjoy your threads immensely.
1960'sTVfan 11-09-2018, 03:25 PM The one essential song from The Cowsills is "Hair", which is a classic. "Indian Lake" is alright too, and The Cowsills also recorded the theme song to the TV show "Love American Style", which is cool also. But in my opinion their other songs are disposable.
Edison 11-10-2018, 12:20 AM "The Rain, The Park & Other Things" still makes me happy (happy, happy). "Indian Lake", too. "Hair", however, not quite as much as when the record was new.

The Rain, the Park and other things is a really great song!!!;) I'm surprised it doesn't make you feel Happy Happy Happy like is does all of us other posters! :) ( I don't mean to steal Edison's joke here )! :D

I've heard the song, it's OK but I think "Hair" is much better and superior.
On the subject of "happy" songs with a 1960's sound, I prefer this early tune from ABBA titled "She's My Kind Of Girl". :)

I will say this about "The Rain The Park & Other Things", it definitely sounds like a 1967 song, there's no disputing that. A good summer song for 1967, the summer of love, but if I recall the song didn't hit the charts until late September or early October.
Coffeecup 12-09-2018, 10:03 PM Oh yes I remember the Cowsills. The oldest son was in college in Rhode Island when their first song came out. The Rain, the Park and other things. I always remember the chorus "Flowers in her Hair". which I thought the title was, Could have been subtitle. Two of the sons are deceased. One was among the missing in the Louisiana Flood we had a decade ago. Can't think of the name and another son if I remember died of cancer. Another son and his wife wrote a few tunes in the mid 1980's.
