Vince Gilligan is set to write and direct a two-hour Breaking Bad film, but it's unclear if it will be made for TV or for theaters. The Albuquerque Journal (https://www.abqjournal.com/1242610/breaking-bad-coming-to-the-big-screen.html) first reported of the project, registered with the New Mexico Film Office. According to The Hollywood Reporter, "details on the project, which has been floating around the industry with a possible fake/working title of 'Greenbrier,' are slim. It's unclear if the movie would be another prequel — like AMC's Better Call Saul — or a follow-up of some sort. It's also unclear is if any of the original stars, such as Bryan Cranston or Aaron Paul, are involved in the new project, which sources stress will be set in the existing Breaking Bad franchise." According to Deadline, the film is "envisioned as a standalone installment in the Breaking Bad franchise that lives in the Breaking Bad universe." The film would be the first project in Gilligan's new three-year overall deal he signed with Sony TV in July.

But he adds: “I would like to see — and again I have no idea if this is what (Vince Gilligan is) thinking about — I would like to see (Jesse) struggle to break that mold and eventually break out and find his own real true calling. Something that empowered him as a human being, that is on the straight and narrow, that allows him to be able to open up, to let another human being into his life. And be happy. ‘Cause I don’t sense that he was really ever happy.”

Breaking Bad isn’t Star Wars. We don’t need to see Jesse move to an island full of porgs, though maybe that would bring him joy. Sometimes, it’s better to let the story end when it needs to end. We don’t need to over-explain everything. Sometimes, it’s best to let the characters exist in their endings, and if you really need a solution, that’s where personal headcanons and the occasional fanfic come in. The story doesn’t always need to be told by the creators."
