I've always got the feeling that Denise was the most individually popular of the Huxtable kids considering that she even got her own spin-off (A Different World) and she was already crossing over into movies (Angel Heart) when The Cosby Show was still on the air. I would assume that the network and movie studios had big plans for her because she was so beautiful and on a hit show.

When I watched it as a kid, I didn't like any of the kids except Rudy and Theo. I was born in 1982, and I was only able to remember them, not the other daughters.
I think Theo should have had his own show in 1992. I also think the Cosby show could have gone on at least another year or a few more years, until Rudy left for college, which would have been in 1997, I think.
But Denise really did not deserve her own spinoff. When she came back to the Cosby Show she was just so dull and it repeated for years.

Depending on who you ask, Bill Cosby wanted Lisa Bonet off the show (but NBC wanted to keep her) due in no small part to her lackadaisical work ethic and on-screen performances. Lisa also made no secret of the fact that she really didn't love it on the show. One time, Lisa a questioned the script and asked what Denise's motivation was. Cosby replied "Oh so you're ACTING now dear!?" As a compromise, A Different World was created but Lisa was so unreliable on there that she only lasted maybe a season.

I loved Denise in the mix of Cosby kids. She was a great actress, brought good energy to the show and yes very beautiful. She often reminded me of my own elder sister - they were both cool kids.
I re-watched the entire first season of "Different World" and I was pleasantly surprised. I loved it as a kid / teenager, and was surprised at how many episodes I remembered so well. Whitley was the shining star of that show though to be fair.
