Rebecca Ferguson is celebrating her 35th birthday today. The Anglo-Swedish actress grew up in Stockholm and began working as a model in her early teens. Ferguson made her screen debut in 1999, in the Swedish soap opera Nya tider, and for the next decade-plus she worked intermittently in Swedish film and television, while also modeling and working as a dance teacher. Ferguson was a virtual unknown outside of Sweden when, in 2012, she was cast as Elizabeth Woodville, the lead character in The White Queen, the BBC series adapted from Philippa Gregory’s novel.
Ferguson followed that up by starring in the Lifetime miniseries The Red Tent, and with a small role in the 2014 film Hercules. Her big breakthrough came a year later. Tom Cruise saw her in The White Queen, and picked her for the role of Ilsa Faust in Mission: Impossible—Rogue Nation, which came out in 2015.

Ferguson has kept busy since the release of Rogue Nation. She won a number of accolades for her starring performance in the espionage drama Despite the Falling Snow, and starred with Emily Blunt in The Girl on the Train. Last year, Ferguson played soprano Jenny Lind, the “Swedish Nightingale,” in The Greatest Showman, and starred in Life and The Snowman. Earlier this year, she returned to the role of Ilsa Faust in Mission: Impossible—Fallout. Ferguson will costar in the upcoming The Kid Who Would Be King, and is scheduled to appear in the Men in Black spinoff MIB.
