I just finished watching the final season for the first time. For the entire time Jolene was on the show Mel's retort to her was "Bag it, Blondie!", but at the start of the last season he changed it to "Bag it, Blonde-Head!" which I thought was really stupid. This only lasted 4 or 5 episodes, eventually he just retorted "Bag it!" or nothing at all. He did refer to her as "Blondie" once in one of the final episodes. Is there a story behind this? Since these were the days before political correctness, the only scenario I can envision are the owners of the Blondie comic strip claiming a copyright on the word.

Yeah . I wondered about that before why he called her blonde -head sometimes? Also didn't he say "Stow it blondie" sometimes too? ;)

I don't think there is any particular story behind it, Mel just had nicknames for them, He called Jolene Blondie, He called Vera Dingy, It seems like he called Flo Red or Big Red a couple of times.
