I don't know if this tragic story is known nationally, but it's pretty big here.

The victims were celebrating a friend's 30th birthday at a brewery and hired the limo to take them to and from the party since they didn't have to drive. The limo driver didn't have a license for the type of limo he was driving and skidded off the road after making a sharp turn in Schoharie, NY. The limo hit two people in a store parking lot whom also died.

The victims were four sisters with their husbands and several friends and family members. Most were newlyweds and leave behind small children. The limo firm operator was arrested for criminal negligence for hiring the driver w/o the proper credentials.

Yes! Wow!! Very sad!!:( Prayers to the victims and their families!

The really bad part is they were being safe, doing exactly what they should be doing! Hiring a limo to drive them cause they knew they would all be drinking. They were being responsible and not driving drunk and a tragedy like this still happens!! Really sad !!:(

OH Nuts!

I haven't heard a word about the girls' parents. They must be out of their minds. Two little kids were orphaned too. It's just heartbreaking for everyone involved.

Ex-upstate NY Limo Operator Hit with Maximum Prison Sentence in Crash that Killed 20
by Jorge Fitz-Gibbon
May 31, 2023

The onetime operator of an upstate New York limousine company will spend between five and 15 years behind bars over the horrific 2018 crash that killed 20 people, including 17 revelers headed to a birthday bash.

Nauman Hussain, 33, was hit with the maximum sentence in Schoharie County Court on Wednesday, two weeks after a jury convicted him of 20 counts of second-degree manslaughter in the Oct. 6, 2018, catastrophe.

Relatives of the victims packed the courtroom as Supreme Court Justice Peter Lynch handed down the sentence, the Albany Times-Union reported.

“When Savannah died, part of me died with her,” Kim Bursese, whose daughter was killed in the devastating crash, told the court. “She did the right thing, and it cost her her life.”

The group of friends had rented the 31-foot stretch limo, a modified 2001 Ford Excursion, from Prestige Limousine & Chauffer Service to attend a surprise birthday party near Cooperstown — but the limo’s brakes failed and it careened through an intersection in Schoharie.

The vehicle slammed into a convenience store, killing two bystanders and the driver.

Prosecutors said Hussain, who ran Prestige Limousine at the time of the crash, was aware that the brakes were faulty and still rented out the limo. The jury agreed with the prosecution, finding Hussain guilty after just six hours of deliberations on May 17.

The crash was the deadliest in the US in decades and forced state lawmakers to pass legislation that provided more limousine safety requirements and restrictions.

Why can’t we say the word limousine? That’s the word. Limousine. Is it so hard to say or type? Shortening words is bad English. Why have a language then?

That's your takeaway from this?

Language always evolves and shortened words or acronyms have become officially recognized (dictionary-listed) words.
